What Make A Black Woman a Strong Black Woman

Too often I hear Black women boasting about being "strong black women." Often such declaration is made during an argument where I feel they were just belligerent and agressive toward blackmen. They used belligerence and strength interchangeably. I know to some extent I am generalizing, but please clarify what make a black woman a strong one.

No such thing as a strong women period. Stop creating special labels for yourselves when you do shit that everybody else does everyday without complaining.
 
I think black women today aren't really strong, not like they were 50, 60, 70+ years ago. I think many of them are weak and too wrapped up in being with a man.

To me a strong black woman will work 2-3 jobs to make a better life for her and her family.

She most certainly puts her kids first in every aspect.


A strong black woman knows when to speak and when to be silent.

She is courageous and doesn't back down from the challenges in life.



Personally, I wish I was that person.

Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Shirley Chisolm, etc.

Condoleeza Rice (even though I don't agree with her decisions), Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, my mother and grandmothers

And just because someone says "I'm a strong black woman", black men shouldn't take it as a slap to the face or that she is emasculating him.

Follow I think you missed understood. I was talkin' about all women and I don't feel emasculated or disrespected because some one thinks a lil too highly of themselves. That's crazy.

There's millions of people. men and women of all races, that overcome major life problems but they don't give themselves a special title and shout it out every chance they get.

The women you listed I still wouldn't label them as "strong women". They're just women. People like you and me who came up against some life obstacles and just took care of 'em.
They get recognition for being the first to do it.
But that's about it.
It's that simple.
They did what they did because they did what they did.
Same rule applies to men.

That whole i'am a "strong black women" idea is usless.
Just be a women.
No one cares.
Get out my ear and stfu.

It's ok to feel good about yourself. But i know a lady that's had it ten times worse than you. But she ain't placing her life experiences above anyone else's.

I actually agree with this statement...

However, I think there are issues that black women encounter that are different from an issue that may occur with a white woman. That being said, being a woman means dealing with it - using that God-given talent and free will to solve that problem/deal with that situation AND look good doing it at the same time :lol:

I can't lie...most of the time when I hear black women say they're "strong black women," it's just in relation to regular, run-of-the-mill life problems...
 
A strong black woman is a woman who keeps the goodness of her
character, through all of lifes trials and tribulations..

Definitely. They don't make women like they used to anymore.

But they don't make men like they used to either and don't get me started on the youth.

But back to women. That needy characteristic especially in some black women makes me despise women. I can't stand a needy woman be it emotionally, financially, spiritually. It's sickening. I equate it to being retarded.

You know what I'm talking about.

Women who live their lives for their children. I believe you should put them first but do not make your life solely for them.

Women who make their lives about their God. These bible clingers are the worst. They got a bible in the car, a bible by their bed and they love to make those bible powerpoint presentations to email to everyone in their department at work. They always say "god bless" on their answering machine/voice mail. Or when you ask them how they are doing they say, "I'm blessed". Ugh, annoying.

And the financially successful woman whose life is about getting up the corporate ladder, buying that big house and driving that BMW or Jag and they seem to only be enjoying the benefits of those things ALONE.

Now, there is nothing wrong with either of those things. But women need balance. And sistas in particular need to stop trying to overcompensate and be one tracked. Yes when we are passionate about something we are unstoppable but sometimes we go overboard, myself included.

i agree that this lable is often times missused

alot of a strong black woman's strengh is silent...she doesnt neeed to roll her neck or roll her eyes to get a point across

a strong black woman is an effective and stragetic communicator...she knows how to not only properly get her point across...but get it across in a mannor that will produce the type of response she wants

she knows when to pick her battles...and knows not do trip on the petty stuff

she has found her own self worth from within....and its dictated by her own standards...not what society or some man has told her to be

a strong black woman doesnt let her problems show all oveer her face...to similar to the duck...on the surface it seems like she effortlessly glides on water....but underneath her feet are working tripple time

a true strong black woman is truly independent....she doesnt need help from a man....or help from the gov't for that matter...she can provide for heer own....and stand on her own 2 feet

a strong black woman is in tune with her body...an is confortable with her sexuality...she does what pleases her or the man she is with without guilt.. she does not let society dicate to her what she should or should not be doing

a strong black woman strives to leave some type of legacy behind...not just childern...but some kind of footprint to remain after she has past

a strong black woman doesnt need any validation from society...men...or other women to make up her worth

this is the woman i strive to be

As usual your pea-sized brain can not understand a simple concept. Strength is not only something of muscles. Some examples of strength which you lack: strength of character, strength of morals, strength of mind, strength of penis.

The real "strong black women" don't talk about it, they be about it. When I hear someone says "im strong, I can deal with whatever" I hear "I'm weak, and I will whine when trouble comes". It's like some chicks are trying to motivate themselves by telling men how strong they are. Not to mention, the main ones yelling that they are strong, or the same ones who are single/bad relationships.

Honestly, how many times you hear women in other races bragging how strong they are?

A strong Black woman has the ability to handle business while remaining a lady. She's loving and is always there for her family nothing else comes first. Lastly she takes care of her man. So it all comes down to character.

I really really hate this term

the most ironic part about it is that it is used mostly by the people who are weak and applied to things they are generally supposed to do. If taking care of your kids makes you strong then every parent on earth who takes care of their kids is automatically "strong". If all it took was getting a job everybody with a job is "strong" the whole premise is absolute bullshit because based on the most common criteria for what constitutes a woman as being "strong" it actually does nothing to separate her from the rest of society and make her special or stand out for greatness.

The other reason this term irks me is because it is used to pull up a gender and make them better than the other sex which again is bullshit. When i hear black women talk about themselves as being strong i run its like when back in the day men used to brag about themselves and say how "great" they are. Society has gone full circle everything women hated men doing back in the day they are doing now. Bragging about your job where you live or your status doesn't make you a better person it makes you worse actually.

pardon my french but fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck a "strong" black woman, i'm all about a beautiful black woman mentally i'm about a black woman who is supportive, respectful, kind, caring, smart, but this cliche bullshit is a joke
