Excellent Post brother 9x3 inch.
Dr Boyce Watkins said exactly what Dert and I was saying in another post. Everybody can see it. Everybody can see his agenda and this time Tavis is flat wrong. I now believe Tavis did in fact have a grimy motive to get Barack there.
I didn't think so before but now I think Tavis will pay a price for his lack of professionalism. Before anybody gets it twisted, I don't mean anything violent but I mean a financial price and loss of stature.
Personally, I hope others scheduled to appear decide not to go this year in protest.

why is this such a big deal if he doesn't show? look if he has to keep his distance from african american issues while he is running for the white house its cool, hell you would think people would be use to us being used as hoes during elections.

This is Favoritism, period. Its not that difficult to figure out, Tavis criticized Obama who many people support and hes getting the backlash from it, thats all it is. All that speculation about "if bill Clinton was invited it would be ok" is bullshit, you wouldn't know that until it happened. The fact of the matter is Tavis Invited Obama to speak at TSOTBU, Obama didn't accept, and Tavis Criticized him for it, just like he criticized the candidates who didn't show up at the Black Debates. TSOTBU is for the Presidential candidates not those Campaigning on there Behalf. I Usually agree with Watkins, but he didn't say anything here of any fucking substance, Its just a kind of cliche "I support Obama and your attacking him so im gonna attack you, just like everyone else" its nothing but people playing favorites.
It's almost as if Obama has to become this raceless/colorless being in order to make it as far as he has. He has tried to stay away from the issue of race. Clinton tried to label him as the "black candidate" in SC and it backfired big time. Once he gets the "black candidate" label his campaign is over, Tavis should know this. Watkins was right, and Tavis needs to check himself. This is much bigger than the SOTBU, Obama is not some token black Democrat seeking to put community issues on the agenda with no hope of winning the party nomination. The man is genuinely trying to win, and Tavis' beef is not needed.

Dog,.TSOTBU is a glorified church service w/ corporate sponsors. Don't get it twisted. Let's see what Tavis is willing to do that doesn't involve corporate sponsorship or selling a book.

Since when did the SOTBU become about presidential candidates (If you look at the list of speakers, only 1 or 2 have ever been presidential candidates)? I thought it was about Black leaders coming together to discuss and create an action plan about issues that face Black America. At least that is what they claim on their website.... did they change the focus to presidential candidates? If so, will it only be held every 4 years now?

Perhaps i should have written that differently, im saying that because Tavis invited the major presidential candidates, its for them to show up or not show up, sending someone who campaigns for you, to speak on your behalf wouldn't logically be acceptable. But anyway like i said this whole thing is nothing but Favoritism, people bitching at someone because they dissed there favorite candidate, thats really all it is. Only in this case its bullshit because you all make it seem like Tavis is singling Obama out or someshit. If Hillary decided she didn't wanna go to TSOBU and sent Bill instead of her, then i would expect Tavis to criticize her for that as well. But this whole "If hillary sent Bill then you know Tavis would accept him" Bullshit that Watkins is spewing is pure speculation, and there is no way you'd know untill that actually happened. and as a matter of fact if the reverse had happened, if Obama did show up at TSOBU then nobody would be bitching and moaning about it, saying its all useless and serves no real purpose, even more so, if Obama showed up but hillary decided to not attend and sent Bill in her place, then you know damn well that you all would Bitch and complain about it. Now of course that is speculation on my part as well, however because of all the Hillary hatred on here, my speculation has validity to it. Tavis is being ridiculously rail roaded here, hopefully some people can see this.

Great post. Like someone already stated the SOTBU Summit has never been about presidential candidates nor the electoral process the the assembly of prominant black men and women to promote the black union and black financial well being. Tavis's trout faced ass has his own agenda PERIOD!!!! I'm glad that Dr. Watkins opened up and said things that many of us have been thinking since this shit happened in the first place.
