The "cult" of Obama.......most of you will be angered!

Well, when the black men on this board start quoting old, ugly and long-debunked "smear campaigns" from Right-Wing wackos like Rush Limbaugh (and others who've likewise always been hostile to blacks) that trash Barack's opponent, then there's obviously something strange going on. These people have clearly sold their souls (and brains) for a mere politician.

:smh:

Like I said, EVERY candidate that has ANY charisma at all is going to have hardcore followers. Obama ain't unique in this.

Go ask Brooklyn1899 (or whatever his fuckin' name is) about Ron Paul?

LOL! What's everybody getting so worked up about. This 'debate' is absurd. There's NO way to resolve it, considering it's completely subjective to opinion. They stated their case in the article... I disagree. And? It's all good. Carry on, fam. GO OBAMA '08!!!

Bill Clinton - The Man from Hope

Barack Obama - The Audacity of Hope.

Both riding charisma to the White House. Why the Double Standard?

"Is It Because I'm Black?" -Syl Johnson
Uh... Bill Clinton was almost as bad for Black Folk as Reagan was.
I think you've just proven exactly why this is a BAD THING.

they get so emotional for men

fuck!!!!

thats the damn problem

Before it was Obama, it was clinton. All clinton all the time. The inevitable, the coronation, the clinton machine, the first woman, the first black president, on and on and on. Nobody ever mentioned cult once.

So these musings are just that. Musings. Doesn't bother me at all. There is always a fan base. Obama has one too. Comes with the territory.

Obama '08

yall will be the 1st to turn on him when he wins and doesnt accomplish half of the shit presidents never accomplish

A lot of folks here will, sure.

I won't unless I feel he fucks up bad--like Clinton did when he ignored the holocaust in Rwanda, or supported the strengthening of the War on Drugs, or sold out Lani Guinier, or murdered innocent Sudanese to change the subject on Lewinsky.

I think you've just proven exactly why this is a BAD THING.

Ive proven nothing other than ALL memorable politicians inspire irrational fervor.

JFK did. Reagan did. Clinton did. Obama will.

How do you draw the conclusion that Obama will be the same kind of centrist Democrat bending over to kiss swing Republican voter asses, and doing anything the polls say do--from that?

Are some people relying too much on Obama for the change that is so desperately needed in this country? Yes. Is Obama portraying himself to be the savior of this nation? No. He was on point when he said, "This time can be different because this campaign for the presidency of the United States of America is different. It's different not because of me. It's different because of you."

He has already proven that he can inspire and garner the interest in the average American to take an active role in changing the way politikkks are handled in the U.S. of A.

I for one, wouldn't vote for a republican if he doesn't get the nod , but I won't be voting for Billary. It's more than politikkks, it's principle. But the fact of having a black man as president alone is enough for me to vote for him. Possessing the qualities, character, and political platform that he does is all the more reason for me.

LET THEM TALK ALL THEY WANT! Hate is hate, whether you label yourself a Obama supporter or not. :hmm:

Jagi/Alex, are you saying people just need to "act cool" about supporting Obama? Lean up against the wall with a square hangin' off their lip with "Freddy's Dead" playing in the background talking 'bout, "Yeah.....dat nigga's aight. Ima vote for him but after I get some pussy first."

But it's fine to show your ass at a Cowboys game though. Right?

D-Nice 1 (The Nice One)

no, i'm saying those that acted the same way in the past need to just let obama fans have their moment as well. i think its funny cause when i called bush fans out on it, they screamed foul, but now i see alot of them throwing dirt at the obama fans.

The article is completely biased. There are hundreds of thousands of women who believe that Billary is the second coming of Joan of fucking Ark. :hmm:

The article states the obvious and tries to frame it as the unique.

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

you said he represents dignity

hes a politician...hes selling dignity

do we not understand the difference anymore????

or did the political arena change because we got a real black candidate?

yall will be the 1st to turn on him when he wins and doesnt accomplish half of the shit presidents never accomplish

Difference of opinion...still doesn't point out "cult" like behavior.

First I hate black men, now I'm in a cult for one? Niggas can't make up their mind.

I hate to say it, but you're right. Cats have to pick their battles wisely. This article is nothing compared to the level of Swift Boating they're going to put on Barack's ass if he makes it to the general election. Calm down, people. If you agree or disagree, just say so and keep it moving. Atleast, that's what works for me. :dunno:

I'll say this and let it go: If Barack Obama can incite twenty-somethings to feel something, back something, contemplate something or support something, my mouth will remain closed in the midst of how much of a foo' they want to act over his candidacy.

EXACTLY, I think the issue is that you only hear from the young voters when they feel inspired (and that ain't often). The fact that people are so shocked by the youthful exuberance displayed for Obama is more an indication of how stale and lame our political system had become and how little faith people had that their vote even counted for shit. I mean you have it to a certain degree with people like Nader, but to actually have a candidate with a chance is a generational thing (and it looks EXACTLY like this every time it happens). It ain't a cult, it's the system WORKING. This shit right here is what Democracy actually looks like (high energy, high emotion). Shit is so rare it scares folks.

DOG I was JUST about to post something to this exact thing in other words.

This article is nothing compared to the level of Swift Boating they're going to put on Barack's ass if he makes it to the general election.

Read this board. It's the Barack supporters who are "Swift Boating" Clinton. There isn't an old '90s Right-Wing "smear tactic" that they haven't dug up, bought into and posted.

Barack will never get that type of treatment. He's never been a target of the Right in that way. (Those "smear" e-mails about his religion are just a drop in the bucket). He hasn't faced the sort of well-organized, well-funded hate campaign for over 25 years like Clinton has (starting with the "The Arkansas Project").

Even though they have the right to vote, I do not know how much Obama is inciting true thought. You can tell a 20 year old anything you wish, about what they don't know, and since it's the American way to commit to little investigation. They usually don't know alot.

Now, Obama has a lot of educated older supporters. But their fevor is equally alarming right now. Like I said on this board before . . .

Anyway . . .

I mean, if Barack says it's for, " Progress " I think half the professional Black women in American will line up to get chipped!

I also think if he does not win it all, some people are gonna have withdrawals, people are going to be heart broken.

And Obama Wept

February 07, 2008 9:43 AM

Inspiration is nice. But some folks seem to be getting out of hand.

It's as if Tom Daschle descended from on high saying, "Be not afraid; for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: for there is born to you this day in the city of Chicago a Savior, who is Barack the Democrat."

Obama supporter Kathleen Geier writes that she's "getting increasingly weirded out by some of Obama's supporters. On listservs I'm on, some people who should know better – hard-bitten, not-so-young cynics, even – are gushing about Barack…

Describing various encounters with Obama supporters, she writes, "Excuse me, but this sounds more like a cult than a political campaign. The language used here is the language of evangelical Christianity – the Obama volunteers speak of 'coming to Obama' in the same way born-again Christians talk about 'coming to Jesus.'...So I say, we should all get a grip, stop all this unseemly mooning over Barack, see him and the political landscape he is a part of in a cooler, clearer, and more realistic light, and get to work."

Joe Klein, writing at Time, notes "something just a wee bit creepy about the mass messianism" he sees in Obama's Super Tuesday speech.

"We are the ones we've been waiting for," Obama said. "This time can be different because this campaign for the presidency of the United States of America is different. It's different not because of me. It's different because of you."

Says Klein: "That is not just maddeningly vague but also disingenuous: the campaign is entirely about Obama and his ability to inspire. Rather than focusing on any specific issue or cause — other than an amorphous desire for change — the message is becoming dangerously self-referential. The Obama campaign all too often is about how wonderful the Obama campaign is. “

The always interesting James Wolcott writes that "(p)erhaps it's my atheism at work but I found myself increasingly wary of and resistant to the salvational fervor of the Obama campaign, the idealistic zeal divorced from any particular policy or cause and chariot-driven by pure euphoria. I can picture President Hillary in the White House dealing with a recalcitrant Republican faction; I can't picture President Obama in the same role because his summons to history and call to hope seems to transcend legislative maneuvers and horse-trading; his charisma is on a more ethereal plane, and I don't look to politics for transcendence and self-certification."

Then there's MSNBC's Chris Matthews who tells Felix Gillette in the New York Observer, “I’ve been following politics since I was about 5. I’ve never seen anything like this. This is bigger than Kennedy. [Obama] comes along, and he seems to have the answers. This is the New Testament."

And behold, Obama met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.

The Holy Season of Lent is upon us. Can Obama worshippers try to give up their Helter-Skelter cult-ish qualities for a few weeks?

At least until Easter, or the Pennsylvania primary, whichever comes first...

UPDATE: Let me be clear: I'm not saying there shouldn't be enthusiasm in politics. I'm merely touching on the fact that some Obama supporters' exhuberance seems to be getting a little out of hand. Obama himself joked about this at a Hollywood fundraiser, as noted in Men's Vogue:

“When Morgan Freeman comes over to greet Obama, the senator begins bowing down both hands in worship. ‘This guy was president before I was,’ says Obama, referring to Freeman's turn in Deep Impact and, clearly, getting a little ahead of his own bio. Next, a nod to Bruce Almighty: ‘This guy was God before I was.’”

THIS IS THE KIND OF SHIT I HAVE BEEN SAYING, 87% OF BLACK GEORGIA RESIDENTS VOTED FOR HIM ???? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YA'LL:smh::smh::smh:

Georgia did a great job

the point is that some of you niggas think hes going to turn water into wine and thats simply idiocy

when in fact, at times hes going to piss you off too

its the nature of the game

But you know something, I know plenty of 30-somethings that don't know or give a shit about politics because since they were old enough to vote, there hasn't been ANYBODY that got them excited about the process. The younger votes may not be as savvy as some older voters and may not put as much thought into it, but i can tell you that they will be %1000 more in-tune with what goes on in this country in 20 years than a lot of folks who came up during the Reagan/Bush years not giving a shit and living completely outside of the process are ow.

The folks that Kennedy got hyped are STILL affecting the country to this day (for better or for worse).

It ain't a cult, it's the system WORKING. This shit right here is what Democracy actually looks like (high energy, high emotion). Shit is so rare it scares folks.

Yeah it's scary.

It's scary when people forget the Pledge of Allegiance.

Did you pledge to a, " Democracy "?

But you let everyone/Bush/Media, put that in your head so much, now your talking about . . . LOOK . . . this is, " Democracy actually looks like ".

Article doesn't hide it's bias. GO to a N.O.W. meeting in an Obama t-shirt and then come back to me on this topic. EVERY candidate has hardcore followers and for ANYBODY to talk some "cult of Obama" shit after the last seven years of this wierd "Bush worship" is full of shit. Bush IS Jesus to conservatives and Ronald Reagan is God himself.

I won't even get into this strange, psycho-sexual worship of Bill Clinton (by women AND men).

But Obama supporters are the wierd ones:smh:?
Co-sign this brotha

Enthusiam about the political process is compared to idol worship? Fuck outta here you pussy!
People have long been complaining that the youth, in particular, have not been engaged in the political process. And now when they stand behind a candidate they get insulted like this. Fuck you you dyke ass nigga.

Yeah it's scary.

I feel you--but look, if we're gonna use Democracy as the justification for unilateralism, preemptive wars and third world exploitation...

Shouldnt they deliver that which they claim for justification?

Exactly. People are confusing enthusiasm with idolitry which I don't believe in. Just another way for negativity to seep into this race.

The idea that anyone one couldn't hold high regard for someone and not always be on even keel on certain platforms is idiocy.

Oh but wait, it's BGOL. You can't be a smart woman and like to fuck.
