Legendary Bay area rapper Spice 1 was shot yesterday in Hayward, California (Dec. 3) and is in critical condition in hospital.

The rapper's managed Six told Ballerstatus.com Spice was shot twice, once in the chin and another time in the chest, which just missed his heart by inches.

"Yes, it's true," Six told BallerStatus.com. "Right now, we're asking for everyone to keep Spice in their prayers."

Spice 1 is being treated at an area hospital and although his injuries are serious, he is expected to pull through according to his manager.

According to the Myspace page of Spice 1's friend and fellow rapper 40 Glocc, the shooting was an attempted robbery.

"He is a Bay Area living legend artist and an xtra close friend of mine. He took a bullet to the chest from some punk ass nigga trying to rob him in the Bay bcuz he wouldn't give up his shit without a fight" said 40 Glocc on his Myspace blog. "I'm pissed ya'll. But karma is a muthafukka!!! Especially while I'm still breathing..."

Formerly signed to JIVE records, Spice 1 has released 15 albums three of which were certified gold.

Spice 1 is such a cool cat and respectful that it's hard to believe that niggaz tried to duff him out like that. But it just goes to show you that these nuckle heads nowadays have no respect.

I swear some of yall must have never lived before the internet was around or something. I remember back when the only way to know something (if you ain't see it yourself) was to hear it from another person. It's still like that today...TMZ ain't gonna be there to report everything that goes on in life, sometimes you gotta listen to other cats until you get information stating the contrary. In this case we didn't get that info [stating the contrary] but cats was still quick to hang Dream and then they ended up finding out that he was right. Now they feel stupid. There's cats I know that have no credibility but I still force myself to listen to what they got to say because you never know when they might drop that one gem that could save your life.

i dont think it was a matter of attachment. think about it...Im not talking about him persay, but alot of rappers are talking about doing mad dirt and being some straight up grimey ass niggas. some feel like they have to maintain the image. if they give up shit so easy to every young nigga that happens to want to test their gangsta, niggas will view them as weak. who cares, right? nah. Im from the bay and I know where i stay if youre marked as a bitch nigga youll never be able to live that shit down. every time a nigga was to see him theyd step to him sideways and that shit aint cool. thats like facing a fate worse than death because then you have to worry about some diffrent cat trying to stick you on a daily basis. thats no way to live. Im not saying that what he did was smart in the long term view of things, but i understand. its more of a matter of the younger generation needing to wake the fuck up. its a damn shame that you cant meet a cat from the town that hasnt lost someone close to him due to violence. thats why i moved the fuck out long ago. as soon as i was of age to handle shit on my own. Oakland will always have a place in my heart, but man, the state of things down there have gotten out of hand
