Cali Fires & Katrina; Response Different ???

Wildfires a raging across Southern California in the San Diego area.

At this point, some 320,000 to 500,000 people have been evacuated.

And, some 1,000 homes have been destroyed by the fire.

Qualcomm Stadium is now acting as an evacuation place much like the Superdome during the Katrina days.

• Is the Federal Response to the Cali Fires different/better than it was in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina ???

• Is the response different because of the race of those affected ???

• If the response is different, is it because FEMA and the government learned from Katrina ???

The response is different in part because it probably isnt FEMA doing the evacuation first off - Cali authorities have way more fire evacuation experience than Fema or Louisiana Locals have hurricane experience.


The other half of the equation is you don't stay at home and ride out a wall of fire and there arent thousands of vehicleless people in the wealthy suburbs in Cali.


If you have to rely on FEMA its kinda like having to rely on Master P's community center to educate your children.

But the BIGGEST problem I have is the fucked up way shit was reported in NO and the very organised way it was reported in Cali.

In NO the networks had no problem running stories that were unsubstantiated and flat out RUMORS meanwhile showing as many pictures of black faces doing fucked up shit as possible. Bloggers perpetuated the RUMORS and reports and EVERYONE seemed to jump on the bandwagon of how badly the black folk are acting.

Remember all the emails from people "volunteering" down there and how they said all the people were ungrateful and nasty and demanding. And how the stadiums where the people (mostly black) were housed was basically like Lord Of The Flies on a massive scale?

Yet when it was all tolled up afterwards there were:

NO roving rape gangs.
NO bodies stacked up around the venues (in fact the last time I read about it they only found less than TEN bodies and thats from BOTH stadiums and they were the elderly sick)

NO little girl with her throat slashed and dumped in a freezer...remember THAT rumor?
NO disorder at the venues. (in fact whenever they showed footage did anyone see any disorder at all?? And this includes the power outages and LACK of info on when help was going to arrive)
Theres even NO CONFIRMED reports of sniper activity altho every reporter said there was.

ITS A FACT THAT NONE OF THAT SHIT HAPPENED YET PEOPLE STILL TALK AS IF IT DID.

Basically the people in the Stadiums at NO was acting JUST AS CIVILLY as the people in CA. YET the coverage on MSNBC, FOX, CNN, etc was completely different. Why? Because one was predominately black and the other predominiately white.

They even had the nerve to compare the behaviors and state that CA had a right to PROUD because of all the order they maintained at the qualcomm stadium

Notice how you didn't hear of any unsubstantiated reports in the negative in CA.
NO reports of looting (yet there is)
NO reports of any violent activity
NO reports of unrest or anger at the staduims
NO reports calling the evacuees REFUGEES...(in fact never in the history of calamity reporting that I could remember..all the hurricanes and tornados and earthquakes thats happened in the past..has the media ever referred to the evacuees as REFUGEES..only during Katrina did that term happen.)
NOTHING...in fact for a catastrophe that caused the mass evacuation of half a million people it was reported almost LEISURELY..certainly not like Katrina was.

Hurricane katrina and the Fires in california are 2 different animals,period. The authorities faced 2 different sets of problems and I will dare say that Cali officials have a much easier task at hand simply because after no more than a week residents are back in their homes assessing their situation. A large number of Katrina victims have yet to get back to NOLA except for a quick peek at their homes.

The magnitude of the disaster was across mutiple states. Got a couple of questions for you

What would Ahnold do if the entire state was ablaze plus your neighboring state? Got a plan for that?

What would Ahnold do if he had to move the entire population of San Diego to other states across the country? They got a plan for that?? I'll bet the rest of the country would like to know what it is so they could be prepared.

What would Ahnold do if the infrastruture collapsed and the people at the stadium couldn't flush the toilets, better yet the sewage was flowing backwards into the stadium.

How would Ahnold get the Starbucks and Popeyes chicken deliveries to the stadium if utilities are out, roads and bridges impassable for at least a week and all the employees are being evacuated to other states? Got a plan for that??

The populations are different, but not just by race. The folks in Cali are Upper Middle Class, as the incomes show. They are more mobile by thier very demographic, and they tend to take more personal responsability. They don't tolerate bad local government like others may, and they don't believe in as many fallacies as others may. But just to say it's all about race is just silly and ignant.
