I know this has been posted on this board in the past so I apologize for bringing it up again. I just signed up with Lexington Law to repair my credit and was wondering if anyone on the board has used them in the past and what were their experiences. Were you satisfied with their results are am I just waisting my money?

You could do the same thing for yourself by pulling your credit report and disputing/correcting everything on it. It takes a few months and you have to be up on it but it works better than Lexington Law. A good tool to use is the Suze Orman kit on myfico.com

Thanks for the reply! Besides saving the money how else is doing it myself better that using Lexington Law? My guess would be that Lexington Law would know the ins and outs of the credit game and be able to tackle it from a "Law" perspective. I can't speak for a lot of people, but I for one do not not all of the laws nor my rights when it comes to credit repair. This is something I'm in the middle of studying now.

In a sense doing it yourself is better, because there's probably a lot you could clean up yourself, then you could have Lexington clean up the rest. Plus it's also better because you can try and negotiate a fixed fee for the item removal - you pay out less money that way.

This ebook will tell you everything you need to know, and then some - I found it very useful and I have used Lexington in the past.

Suze Orman stuff is a waste of money. Secondly, debt reporting is govern by the fair credit reporting act and the fair debt collection protection act. There are rules and procedures that creditors and collectors must follow in order to lawfully report and attempt to collect money. 90 percent of them don't follow these procedures. They violate. You identify the violations and report the collector to their Better Business Bureau and their Attorney General.

Now, you don't know what is contained within the FCRA or the FDCPA. No problem. Go to source of my salvation - creditboards.com and type in the name of your collectors and you research the practices of the collector in question and formulate a strategy based on others success stories. Be sure to research the term validation. This is kryptonite to collection agencies. This credit game is not rocket science. Just take a few days and do some research.

Again, you don't have to pay for this. Lexington law doesn't care more about your credit health than you.

I used Lexington Law... they have a system that keeps you on your toes about what steps you need to follow. You login, sign up for a credit monitoring service so they can pull your reports(I did truecredit.com), then once your credit reports are in the system, you select which accounts you want to dispute and how you would like to dispute it(do all your negative ones) and they will send a optimized letter for best results to all 3 credit reporting agencies constantly until the accounts are removed or negative reports are eliminated. You will have to fax or email any letters you receive from any of the 3 credit bureaus and they will send an appropriate response. Honestly, yes it is possible to do this yourself but I felt secure having a company that has done this for years tailor up an optimal letter for results for me. To really get results can take a lot of letter writing that I didn't want to deal with. Working with Lexington raised my Credit Score about 150 points(I forget exactly what I started with) over the 700 mark. Sure no one wants to shell out the money for Lexington and for truecredit.com a month but if you procrastinated this long to repair your credit then there is no better investment. Now I have no shame in applying for a credit card and feel much more confident for the day I'm ready to take out a home loan. I'd try it for a like 5-6 months. If you don't get results they have a guarantee based on how many negative items they were able to eliminate.

The #1 credit repair resource online is creditboards.com. No quick fixes but EVERYthing you need to get your credit game on point.

I used Lexington maybe 6-7 years ago. They were decent but not worth the monthly $. Most of the creditors that they send letters to (and the CRA's) know Lexingtons form letters so well since they are seeing so many of them. They stop taking those letters seriously since they know its a third party disputing shit and not really you. You can do it much better on your own. Taking 2-3 hours/ weekend, you could have yourself on point within a few months even if you're in a bad situation.

Bottom line is figure out how you got into that situation and find a way not to let it happen again. Pay your bills homie.

Creditboards is the place to be....Do it yourself and save the $$$. I done my wife's and mine over about 6 months and boosted our scores about 130 points each. I learned alot just by reading the other post before asking for any help. It cost me a total of $87 dollars for the wife and mine was almost $800 to get several accounts totally deleted from my report. The biggest account was a $3000 credit card that I settled with the company for 700. Learn your local/ state laws and Federal laws (links can be found on the site.

Here's what you do:

1. Go to myFico and get your true FICO scores and Opt-out of credit offers. (link on site or google it)
2. Go to annualcreditreport.com and get all 3 of your reports free. Print them because you will need the report numbers for disputes.
3. Check all 3 reports for error and file disputes with the credit reporting agencies.
4. Don't let anyone pull your reports until they are cleaned up. Inquiries = points off your FICO. If you have alot of inquiries, you can bump them down on 2 of the bureas (do a search for bump or bumpage on creditboards)
5. Negotiate with the company directly, not with a collection agency! DO NOT TALK with anyone over the phone unless it is completely necessary. If they call you ask them to not call you home or place of employment and to communicate only by mail as prescribed by federal law. Do not make an offer to pay unless you get the negotiated terms in writing. USE Certified Mail Return Reciept Requested or email for communication and keep a paper trail.

That should be enough to get you going..... PEACE!

There is nothing wrong with using a third party credit repair company just make sure you do your research before shelling out any money. I tell people all the time the only thing about trying to repair/fix your credit is it can be very time consuming and it is not an overnight thing sometimes.

But like with anything else if you put your mind into it you will get the end result that you are looking for.

I'm not gonna knock using a agency to do your legwork, but we as black consumers fail to learn our rights and laws then cry foul when the man comes knocking. By doing it yourself you will learn the laws and know your rights. For instance, most people do not know that everytime an inquiry is made on your credit file, it knocks your score a little. The credit bureas often make mistakes and may have you listed with the wrong social security number which could create problems when you apply for something or worse yet open you up for identity theft. Knowing your own credit file can help you get better rates on loans and credit cards. I personally went from low limit, high APR cards to all prime card with interest rates less than 10% which saves you alot of finance charges if you carry a balance. I also purchased a $250K house with great rates, refinanced a car from 14% to 6.5% and have been approved for cards that I didn't need, but just liked to have them. It feels good to walk into a store knowing that I can get anything I want and not have to worry if I have enough credit. All that from learning how the financial system works and doing what all the well off americans do...negotiate on your terms not theirs. Just this week, the wife and I stopped in a BMW dealership just to look. We got offered 4.5% financing and I laughed. The manager asked what was funny. I told him I could put that on my Plat. Mastercard at 2.5%. He thought was just bullsh*tting until I got my bank rep on the phone to set up a wire transfer. He asked what rate and she told him...He damn near fainted and offered us everything he could think of. We said nah...we're just looking and left him standing there pale as a mother.... Do yourself a favor and do it yourself. The knowledge that you gain will greatly benefit you!
