10-yr-old commits suicide after parental ban on computer games

A 10-year-old school boy committed suicide by jumping from his 19th floor apartment here after his parents banned him from playing computer games.
Andrei Smirnov, a class three student, jumped to his death yesterday after receiving the wrath of his parents due to bad conduct in school and a poor performance in studies.
The boy's class teacher had written remarks about his bad conduct in the school diary which he had tried to erase to escape the wrath of his parents, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid.
Angered by the teacher's remarks and their son's attempt to deceive them, Andrei's parents banned him from playing games on his computer.
Local experts here have expressed concern over the unhealthy dependence of children on computers.
According to Director of Centre for Legal Psychological Assistance Mikhail Vinogradov, children who are banned from using their computers could easily resort to suicide, since they do not realise the consequences of taking the extreme step.

I have a son in the 9th grade...he has a friend who is the same as this kid.
His friend has all 3 game systems,a 42 inch plasma...all in the basement where he sleeps.And he has unlimited access...

I sometimes feel like slapping the shit out of his mother.

The other day,I asked my son a few questions about the kid...who has been his friend for 3,4 years...even tho I knew the answers.

I asked,does his friend have a job?..a girlfriend?...does he play sports?...is he on the football team?...does he take part in any after school activities?...is he on the honor roll?

The answer to all the questions was no...

Then I asked my son the same questions about him...the answer to all was yes.
I then asked if he got my point...and said that's why I don't want your behind spending the night over there.

As I said...I bet those parents needed a dope slap.

Yes I could, there could be multiple factors that have contributed to his eventful suicide. But based on this story and the facts that were presented it didn't paint that picture for me. The fact the parents disciplined him for his mediocre performance and behavior in school lets me know that they do care. They could of easily told him not to do it again and go about there business.


But again this is just a "what if" or "maybe"


I still don't feel sympathy for those who commit suicide.
