Our vision is that black Americans will become power players in the political arena so that they can seize control over their own destiny and move into our ownership society through small business and home ownership.

MISSION: The mission of the National Black Republican Association (NBRA) is to be a resource for the black community on Republican ideals and promote the traditional values of the black community which are the core values of the Republican Party: strong families, faith in God, personal responsibility, quality education, and equal opportunities for all.

GOAL: The goal of the NBRA is to return black Americans to their Republican Party roots by enlightening them about how Republicans fought for their freedom and civil rights, and are now fighting for their educational and economic advancement.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of the NBRA are to conduct a nationwide grassroots educational campaign in black communities; champion school choice opportunity schorlarships to give black parents educational options and access to a quality education for their children; and provide training and resources for grassroots activists and candidates for elected office.

GOAL ACHIEVEMENT:

We will sponsor grassroots campaign training programs, provide educational tool kits to grassroots activists, and conduct forums in black communities nationwide.

Legislative Action: We will advise leaders across the country from state capitals to the U. S. Capitol.

Media: The NBRA will make the case for Republican ideals in the local and mainstream media and local black newspapers.

I guess If you can beat them... join them...

I think, in my opinion, is to study the history of the GOP. Once there, pick which one to register under. Remember, you can vote for who/whom ever you want, you just have to pick a party to register to vote.

isnt black and republican an oxymoron?

The Republican Party - GOP History

The Republican Party was born in the early 1850's by anti-slavery activists and individuals who believed that government should grant western lands to settlers free of charge. The first informal meeting of the party took place in Ripon, Wisconsin, a small town northwest of Milwaukee. The first official Republican meeting took place on July 6th, 1854 in Jackson, Michigan. The name "Republican" was chosen because it alluded to equality and reminded individuals of Thomas Jefferson's Democratic-Republican Party. At the Jackson convention, the new party adopted a platform and nominated candidates for office in Michigan.

In 1856, the Republicans became a national party when John C. Fremont was nominated for President under the slogan: "Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont." Even though they were considered a "third party" because the Democrats and Whigs represented the two-party system at the time, Fremont received 33% of the vote. Four years later, Abraham Lincoln became the first Republican to win the White House.

The Civil War erupted in 1861 and lasted four grueling years. During the war, against the advice of his cabinet, Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation that freed the slaves. The Republicans of the day worked to pass the Thirteenth Amendment, which outlawed slavery, the Fourteenth, which guaranteed equal protection under the laws, and the Fifteenth, which helped secure voting rights for African-Americans.

The Republican Party also played a leading role in securing women the right to vote. In 1896, Republicans were the first major party to favor women's suffrage. When the 19th Amendment finally was added to the Constitution, 26 of 36 state legislatures that had voted to ratify it were under Republican control. The first woman elected to Congress was a Republican, Jeanette Rankin from Montana in 1917.

Presidents during most of the late nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth century were Republicans. The White House was in Republican hands under Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush. Under the last two, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, the United States became the world's only superpower, winning the Cold War from the old Soviet Union and releasing millions from Communist oppression.

Behind all the elected officials and the candidates of any political party are thousands of hard-working staff and volunteers who raise money, lick the envelopes, and make the phone calls that every winning campaign must have. The national structure of our party starts with the Republican National Committee. Each state has its own Republican State Committee with a Chairman and staff. The Republican structure goes right down to the neighborhoods, where a Republican precinct captain every Election Day organizes Republican workers to get out the vote.

Most states ask voters when they register to express party preference. Voters don't have to do so, but registration lists let the parties know exactly which voters they want to be sure vote on Election Day. Just because voters register as a Republican, they don't need to vote that way - many voters split their tickets, voting for candidates in both parties. But the national party is made up of all registered Republicans in all 50 states. They are the heart and soul of the party. Republicans have a long and rich history with basic principles: Individuals, not government, can make the best decisions; all people are entitled to equal rights; and decisions are best made close to home.

The symbol of the Republican Party is the elephant. During the mid term elections way back in 1874, Democrats tried to scare voters into thinking President Grant would seek to run for an unprecedented third term. Thomas Nast, a cartoonist for Harper's Weekly, depicted a Democratic jackass trying to scare a Republican elephant - and both symbols stuck. For a long time Republicans have been known as the "G.O.P." And party faithfuls thought it meant the "Grand Old Party." But apparently the original meaning (in 1875) was "gallant old party." And when automobiles were invented it also came to mean, "get out and push." That's still a pretty good slogan for Republicans who depend every campaign year on the hard work of hundreds of thousands of volunteers to get out and vote and push people to support the causes of the Republican Party.
From the Beginning:
Abolishing slavery. Free speech. Women's suffrage. These are all stances the Republican Party, in opposition to the Democratic Party, adopted early on.
The First Republican
With the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860, the Republicans firmly established themselves as a major party capable of holding onto the White House for 60 of the next 100 years.
The Bull Moose
Assuming the presidency when McKinley was assassinated in 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt busied himself with what he considered to be the most pressing issue, ensuring the Republican principle of competition in a free market.
Leading The Way On the Issues
Republicans fought to abolish slavery, give blacks equal rights and then the vote. Many Republican politicians risked their careers on that period's "third rail" of politics.
Republican Women
Once again the Republican Party was the vanguard in relation to women. In 1917, Jeannette Rankin, a Montana Republican, became the first woman to serve in the House.

13th. Amendment
to the U.S. Constitution

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

good post

Been leaning towards this party lately

Others make it hard to shake off those Democratic "shackles" (double meaning)

Historical perspective is great, however, this is 2007. The top 4 GOP contenders for president can't come out to a minority debate?!?!?!? No one running for president is a minority - let alone has a tan?!?!?!? I don't have faith in the Dem's either, but waxing poetic about what the GOP party "used" to stand for does not stand up to their views and policy's towards minorities today.

Don't Confused Being a Republican With Being A Neo-Conservative. They didnt mean the same thing at one time. Before the Civil Rights Bill, it was the Democrats in the south who were mostly conservative while the Republicans in the south were Liberals.

The Party system is Bullshit.

Good luck broadcasting that on this board....

For the record, I"m independent. I vote for the guy that reflects my personal values and what I think is appropriate at this time.

However, I'm not impressed with "none" of the candidates for 2008. Each and every one has some type of "tragic" flaw thats really gonna come back to hurt em if elected president.
Thats why i check a guys weaknesses too. If he blows up in office, then at least I knew this could happen before I voted for him.

"...when you're picking the voice of the nation, you're just contributing to the status quo's preservation..." Talib Kweli "Bushonomics" from Dr. Cornell West's cd ...

the thing I don't understand about these cats is that the lead Republican candidates won't even address the black community directly. They act as if our vote does not matter to them so why should I give a fuck about anything these bastards have to say. Also, you have to take into account that during the Bush Imperial Presidency, he has gone out of his way to not address anyone of the Black constituency. They won't even listen to anything that we have to say. Given the fact that the Republicans act like we don't matter, I don't understand why any of us would ever vote for them.

isnt black and republican an oxymoron?

No.

It depends on who you're dealing with.

Notice that they have a FOX News shill on their latest cover.

Disturbing but understandable.

She's a religious conservative. She can be annoying with the partisan politics, but there hasn't been much self hatred even with white hubby in tow.

It's when they start fraternizing with the likes of Jesse Lee Peterson, Ward Connerly and the other neocoons is where I set my limits.

Must be a serious typo in that article. They forgot about the racist Democrats leaving their party for supporting de-segregation and being accepted with open arms into the Republican party in the sixties.

And speaking of the two minority sponsored debates the Republican Presidential candidates skipped. I hear that they will address the minority issues after the primaries are over and the general election starts. HUNH? That sounds ass backwards and way over calculated to me.

isnt black and republican an oxymoron?

Not really. The majority of blacks (especially the older you get) become more conservative over time. There is nothing wrong with being a black conservative and much of their mission statement I agree with. The biggest problem I have with "Republicans" in general is their disbelief in "Affirmative action".

How do I know whites don't like hiring black people? Because as a business owner I don't like hiring white people!

I wouldn't have been in business for the last few years if not for an SBA affirmative action minority program that got me my first 30k loan.

As soon as Bush got into office they banished the same program that allowed unestablished brothers like me to come into my own.

People like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh make it impossible to join up with them as a voter because they are so "outright" racist.

Some of you need to understand that Democrats are just as racist.
They keep pushing welfare and never taking any kind of responsibility as their mantra. Even though they pretend they are not racist, many Democrats would rather walk to their graves rather than see a brother in the Oval office. :smh:

We are asking for an additional 180 BILLION dollars to fund the war in Iraq for 2008, but the president plans to veto the child health care bill. Bush claims that the SCHIP, ( $35 billion over five years) is too expensive, even though the money would mainly come from increase taxes on cigarettes.:smh:

They act as if our vote does not matter to them so why should I give a fuck about anything these bastards have to say. .

Thats because blacks vote overwhelmingly at 91% each presidential election for democrats. If you do the math... it's like throwin hard earned campaign money straight into the toilet.

So... if you speak to an audience of 100 people, less than 10 are likely to hear and agree with anything you have to say.... all the rest are most likely gonna boo and hiss throughout your entire speech.

Blacks in today’s Republican Party have no voice what so ever. Their experiences and unique points of view are not taken in to account in any republican decision. Take Colin Powell for example. He said he believes in affirmative action and abortion rights. These beliefs are the main reason he could not run for president as a republican, due to the domination of the southern, white male, conservative political power in today’s Republican Party. His admission of misleading Americans during the Bush’s administration United Nations justification for the attack of Iraq was followed by the condemnation by many conservative republicans. Become an independent and make both parties earn your vote.

I think, in my opinion, is to study the history of the GOP. Once there, pick which one to register under. Remember, you can vote for who/whom ever you want, you just have to pick a party to register to vote.

Interestingly, if the current trends bare themselves out as the current polls indict, the Republican Party will suffer its greatest defeat in the 2008 general election since the FDR democratic land slides of the world wide depression of 1932. Many young Blacks (born between 1976 and 1988) seem to lend toward the Republican Party as it is presented by the media the way it was portrayed as the Reagan administration wants it to be perceived. Today’s Republican Party, in fact the Republican Party from 1980 until today is not the republican of its origins. Just as the Democratic Party from 1964 until 1992 is not the democratic party of its origins. The original Republican Party was formed by the remnants of the northern branch of the defunct Whig part and portions of the anti slave leaning Democratic Party. The republican’s main tenant was free labor, public schools, and expansion of the largest industry at the time the railroads. Originally the republicans were not anti slavery. The original anti slave advocates of the day were not republicans per say, (Quakers, John Brown, free Blacks of the north were not based in the Republican Party as an ideology). The so called radical republicans drew the party in this direction. In fact Lincoln did not originally campaign for freedom of the black slaves, he just want the nation to be whole.

Which is laughable? Republicans claim that blacks only vote for democrats because they have been voting for them for years and Blacks believe anything that so called liberals tell them, yet the republicans that have the power won’t even acknowledges blacks. How patronizing and disrespectful. We should vote for people like this?

The Party system is Bullshit.

Former Governor and Vice President under Gerald Ford, Nelson Rockefeller, the grandson of oil billionaire David Rockefeller was called too liberal by the father of today’s Republican Party, former Senator from Arizona Barry Goldwater in 1964.

Just Curious... What if WE ALL DID BECOME REPUBLICANS but still kept our Hiphop ways. Do you think they would be beggin for us to leave?

There you go again, trying to syphon all the air out the room. Let BGOL have an intelligent conversation for once about ideas rather than sticking bumper stickers all around the got damn room please? Or get a radio show. :hmm:

To illustrate how much in bed the parties are with corporations the Fourteenth Amendment was created to assure that southern states could not denied American citizenship to freed slaves was bastardized by the joke of a supreme court decision “Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad Company”, which was backed, mostly by the republicans of the time. President Eisenhower warned about the influence of the military corporate interests in to out politics. Bottom line, the main issue with the United States today is that corporations have too much control over our society. The republicans exist because of this and most of the democrats believe in this. We need a new way of thinking, the liberal parties and the conservative parties. That way we can get politicians to state their points of view and not hide behind slogans. Either you are for total human freedom and self determination or are you for the exploitation of the less informed by the wealthy.

Once again you are all insult and no fact. Have you ever stated a fact in support of you republican ways? If you have please enlighted me.

Nope. Not at all. I am an independent. There is no party that excites me. I just have a real hard time seeing anyone of color support the Republican contenders. Now, not withstanding, those blacks who have loot and the tax cuts and status quo econmics benefit them. Everyone else, not financially secure, and grinding, really need to wake up. Minorities just do not matter to them.

isnt black and republican an oxymoron?

Only if you believe that because you were BORN BLACK, THEN YOU MUST BE A DEMOCRAT!

In my opinion both statements are EQUALLY ASININE!

Why would YOU make a STUPID ASS STATEMENT, that would connect ANY COLOR OR RACE TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY?

That in itself makes YOU LOOK LIKE A MORON SANS THE "OXY"!

Question:

How important are BLACKS to the Democratic party, AFTER the elections are over?

This is my main problem in america. Nobody talks about the real issues and the only thing that is debated is what they tell us on TV is wrong. This country is falling more and more into a facist state. Major corperation deciede what you see on TV, what is shown to you in the newspaper and what you hear on the radio. This is one of the few places you can come and really hear whats going on from a strett level from town to town. If the powers that be have there way the net will soon be taken from us. All the arguing back in forth on TV is bullshit. There are real issues going on that nobody is adressing. Major coperations, are deciding are way of life and nobody wants to address the issues because we are all stuck in our relative confort. The GOP and the Dems no about this, but they are getting rich of it, so they chooose to say nothing. :smh:
