Remember when you were young and they said what goes around comes around, Houston is vulnerable its a coastal city. A nice big, fat, strong, Cat 5 storm to cause billions of dollars in flood damage, wind damage, and worst of all displace a city that is well over 5 million in population. I wonder, how would your neighbors in Dallas and San Antonio recieve you especially after a few Houstonians cause some ruckus.

New Orleans never had gangs but people rep different parts of the city or projects. I will put it like this...Shit like this happens all over the USA not just in Houston. They got it bad because a lot of people who were sent there came from the projects all over the city or who lived ghetto as hell anyway. I went to jr high school(carter g.woodson) near Magnolia projects. Some of those brothers never seen better other than regular hood shit(uneducated mothers and grandmothers, fatherless homes, killing, drugs, guns,and babies making babies). They rep what they know. Brothers seen those gangs in Houston as weak MF, and starting taking over.
Not everybody from New Orleans act like this, but those same brothers are moving back to NOLA killing each other like they did before KATRINA. They're ones who's holding up the rebuilding progress. It's a worker shortage in ALL areas of construction business. If those brother would focus on working and let the damn drug game go things would be so different. Shit 80% of the city is fucked up because of Katrina. This is one of the largest rebuilding projects in US history. Over 60 Billion dollar or more will be spent in reconstruction. Dude said it best he stopped the dumb shit when his son was born. Brothers need to say I want better for my kids so they don't grow with the same BS killing or going to jail over dumb shit.

Wouldn't happen to me. I own my home (not rent or live in shitty projects). I have insurance that covers me for damn near everything (including flood insurance, had that before i saw what happened to ya'll) even if insurance screwed me over I save my money and live debt free (don't waste my money on rims amd gold fronts) if I lost everything i have enough saved to start over. Once i arrived in said "city" I'd be job hunting five minutes after arriving.
Ya'll need to admit ya'll had a large amount of "welfares favorite customers".

I agree with you 100 percent! The media lumped many of you in the same group. I have close friends from New Orleans (some I helped directly after the storm) they are great "salt of the earth" people. But even "they" had were clowning on their own people. Instead of blaming those that point the finger, you have to admit that many of those coming from those hoods lacked self respect and self esteem. You must acknowledge the fucked shit in order to fix it. Houston has always had crime. But never on the level of New Orleans. We have never been called "Murder capital" like NO.

I grew up in Chicago (on the west side) in the eighties when gang violence was really fucked up and young people were dying ever day. I had good parents that made sure I stayed my ass out of the streets and in school. Silly as fuckers glorify gangs and the hood like you can retire and live in the Bahamas. Their is only one retirement death or a shredded ass body dying of congestive heart failure because you did every known drug and treated your body like it was shit, this is reality. I presently worked in the medical field and see OG's come into the emergency room (ages 38-45) all the time. Its sad. In the south gangs have really caught on with the same outcome. It was stupid then shit is even dumber now at a time when their is more opportunity, even though society is still not fair but their is opportunity.
I guess we can wait on the government bail out, or as Spike Lee said WAKE UP. Riding on fucking 30's mean nothing if you have no idea who you are, if you can not envision a future for yourself, your family, your children its all meaningless. I didn't live in Houston until the 90's so I guess i lucked out.
Sometimes I think I am on some KKK board when I log on BGOL the way cats here generalize, marginalize and degrade black people. People are always complaining about Blunt but this board is full of people who are far worse. The complete lack of critical thinking leads people to use misnomers like "black community" and make sweeping idiotic condemnations and illogical conclusions like the way implied by this post. The attitudes of the people on here cut against the idea of a black community. If a community is one of people with similar interests, culture, beliefs and goals- it is clear that there is no one monolithic black community as the black american perspective is diverse.

However, I also encountered some of the most hardworking, enduring, genuine and honest people I have ever met in New Orleans. Bullshit exploitative videos like this are in no way indicative of the culture as a whole. I worked in many of the communities, especially the St. Bernard projects, and most of the poor people in New Orleans want to live productive and successful lives just like anyone else.
I see shit like this and I am saddened by it like anyone else. But instead of shaking a finger at these "dumb niggas" in disgust why not volunteer to tutor some Orleans parish school kids so that they will not fall into the same traps as some of those cats on the video.

My post wasn't about NO people fucking shit up, or Houston's proximity to the Gulf, the post was about how everybody was lumped together after only a few assholes decided to be assholes. I wont give anybody right when their wrong. But everybody the Houston media including Mayor Bill White had something negative to say. Hell I KNOW the NO people in Atlanta are causing some shit, but when Shirley Franklin was asked about she played it down completely and played up the productive people who came to Atlanta.
Word, it flooded really bad in Houston what a few years ago? My ex-gal lost her house to water damage. tons of people in (99% black) South Park and East Houston had their shit fucked up. You didn't have people rioting and acting the ass in the streets. Like I said NO had a large concentration of Dead beats, Baby mama's, crack heads and all around leeches in a very small city. One of the worst Public Education systems in the US. My homegirl (who's a teacher) said it was hard as hell to get those kids up to speed because the majority of them were going to school with no books. How the fuck you go to school with "No books"?
The local structure had failed these people long ago and bread a bunch of ass clowns. The storm came in and all NO's dirty laundry was put on front street. Now Houston's Mayor (Who I've heard has bigger political aspirations) Decided to be Superman and usher in all these people. Other Cities were limiting the amount of people they would allow in their communities but Houston's mayor decided to grandstand for the money and attention. All the time he didn't worry about the people that "actually" had to live next to them.
They never put these people in "Houston Projects" they put them in apartments with "Working class people" who weren't used the ruckus New Orleans evacuees were bringing to their door steps nightly.
Here's what I don't understand....why didn't other City's in New Orleans make way for the evacuees? How come Governor Blanco say "Hey these are our states citizens, let us in the state open our doors for our own people". My guess is, she knew the element (like we saw in the video) that lived in NO in those projects and this was the one chance they had to dump "them on us".
