UFC

So a B league fighter signs with a D league promotion? Pretty sure DAZN and MISFITS is used for money laundering! That shyt is like Mattress Firm! You see them everywhere, but NOBODY is ever in them!
As long as I don't have to watch MVP fight then I don't care where he goes, wish he would go do some Russian fighting against bears or female gymanist triplets.

I only know 1 person who has a DAZN subscription. I don't think they use it all that much.

Funny you should mention Mattress Firm. I was doing some furniture shopping in the early-2010s and went to a shitload of places to browse. Then I went to a bootleg place in East Vancouver. One of the salesmen was following me around like he hadn't had a sale in years. I had to politely give that - "Fucking Christ ... why the fuck are you hounding me? The entire time I'm here ... back off" in more polite terms. The furniture there LOOKED nice, but didn't look all that durable.

:roflmao3:

I hate hokit, but Waldo doesn't want any of that. Hokit sleeps him.

I really hope Ciryl Gane embarasses Hokit later this month.

Gane is a legit heavyweight, and Hokit should probably think about moving down to 205lbs - light heavyweight. Mind you - I will give him and Curtis Blaydes credit. They put on a hell of a technique OUT THE WINDOW slugfest when they clashed. They are both tough as fuck.

I don't want to COMPLETELY shyt on MVP. Anybody that makes it to Bellator/UFC/etc... they are elite. Homie is a bad Xerox of Anderson Silva. His biggest win was over Douglas Lima and that was AFTER he got knocked out by him. The ONE fight I was rooting for him he lost against Ian what's his nuts. The skill doesn't match the hype.

Gane is going to be a tough ask for hokit, like you said he's a legit heavyweight, not only that but he's by far the fastest heavyweight with the defensively safest style. His takedown defense has improved greatly so idk what hokit could do. With that said MMA math is never straight forward(which is why I refuse to gamble lol)

At 205 I think hokit loses to faster more well rounded opponents, he's in the right weight since ufc heavyweight division is an actual clown show outside of gane and Tom. He's even said as much, he wants to fight the slow buns at heavyweight lol

That's how I know MMA is a clown ass show! What other heavyweight division looks like they're installing water heaters after the fight?!

Waldo vs. Johnny Walker should be interesting this weekend. Especially with Walker now up at heavyweight, and the fact that he tends to WIN / LOSE in dramatic fashion. It's usually some type of wild KO or TKO for or against him, lol.

His brother's interesting too ... racking up a number of heel hook or ankle lock submissions. That's his signature and that's smart as fuck as his fights are QUICK and he takes little damage as a heavyweight. Preserving and prolonging his career. Johnny Walker is 34yo, and his brother Valter is only 28yo (just checked wiki).

He's obviously talented for the earth, but for mma he's been super overrated for a long time. Most bellator guys where also overrated, it's not the same as the price situation back in he day.
His heat wins are against bums, lima washed out of the UFC but was a killer at bellator. What does that tell you about the talent pool at bellator?
At the end of the day what I know is I've never been more frustrated and bored watching any fighter more than I have watching MVP. He is allergic to aggression, he's not only gun shy but after getting flat lines he's even more timid. Now that he's lost his speed his flaws are glaring and he's done. Imho he's always been a bum and I've hated his style his entire career lol he's a temu anderson, but not one of the good knockoffs where you're like, huh ...for five bucks, not bad.

That's a good comparison ... because Anderson (win or lose) was NOT afraid to mix it up. That got him stopped a number of times in the latter half of his career, but by then his Hall of Fame status had already been long cemented.

I still remember him coming on the scene back in the 2000s and beating Chris Leben and Rich Franklin very quickly and easily. LOVED when he'd fuck people up with knees and elbows in clinches ... fucking brutal.

When he locked rich franklin in that thai clinch he changed American MMA forever. It was all but unseen at that level in the ufc at that time and rich clearly had no clue how to get free. He ate a buffet of knees.

At the end of that I knew Anderson was about to go on a special run.

Lol @ his take about the slow bums at heavy aside from a few people.

Yeah - Gane is the truth. You can tell he takes his health & the sport seriously. Never in bad shape even out of camp. I think we sometimes forget how good he is considering Jones made easy work of him in 2 - 3 minutes a few years ago. That looked too easy, but he's a much better fighter than that.

100% agree re: MMA math It is such a gamble ... I don't have the heart or wallet for it. I always remind people ...

Hominick went 25 full minutes in a title fight with Jose Aldo (one of the GOATs)

Then came back later that year and lost in 7 seconds by KO to Korean Zombie

What the hell, lol?

So damn impressive. Hurt him quickly. As for ANY street fights I have in the decades ahead ... I'd love to one day get a clinch on someone and break their dental with my knee. Especially if they had threatened my life. The only fights I've been in were back in the 90s and then it was only kicks, punches, and a primetime leg sweep that embarassed that MF bully something special.

Exactly, if I ever get the itch to gamble on mma I always remember matt Serra vs gsp lmao then factor is sal diamato is still a judge and I'm cool on betting lol

Jones murdering gane was more about Jones and less about gane, people hate him(understandably at this point lol) but imo there isn't a single human who has ever existed to this point that would walk out of fight to the death with bones, lock two any two people(and some large animals) in a room with jon and he walks out each time.

He made it look so easy that people. Forgot gane is a high level, well rounded killer.

I got into and respected grappling early since I had a buddy who wrestled, the guy was about a quarter my total size and weight, I told him he couldn't do shit to me with that wresting bullshit and before I could finish the sentence he shot double legged me so fast and hard that all I knew was that I was one second talking to him face to face and then for some reason I was staring at the lights on the ceiling. It was a compete eye opener, next eye opener was the first time I got choked out in a rnc lol good times, Lots of brain damage.

Good callback to Serra. I remember the shock of the entire MMA world with Serra's big upset win. For the rematch I went with my dad to a restaurant / sports bar. I had to see that fight with a crowd and knew that GSP could not let this MF derail his career with 2 losses. Thankfully GSP triumphed, and the bar food was fucking excellent. Had a full meal there including a pasta dish that was high-end restaurant worthy, no bullshit.

Jones was so damn smart to get Gane down easily and make quick work of him.

Jones vs. Gustaffson back in the day was excellent. Kudos to the both of them ... that fight was Hall of Fame worthy while it was happening. Both bloodied & exhausted. Kudos to Izzy vs. Gastelum back in the late-2010s too. Both left it all on the line in a title fight. Izzy even noted he was prepared to die .... fuck ... that's a real competitor. Chills.

Damn - I hear you. It really humbles you.

I just did casual wrestling in gym class and was decent, but my younger brother was in wrestling for a few years and also did pankration training from Lance Gibson during one semester of high school. Believe it was part of a practicum. Gibson is a UFC vet from back in the 90s or so, and his son Lance Gibson Jr has competed in Bellator / UFC, and his gf or wife Julia Budd competed in Bellator.

I tried rough housing once or twice with my brother and he mopped the floor with me. I got pretty frustrated and was a poor sport and pissed off trying to get my get back ... but got even more frustrated trying to redeem myself.

Come on bro, some of the guys in ufc heavyweight look like they'd go into cardiac arrest if they tried installing a water heater.

Let's not offend the tradesman that make our lives better! Lol

Yeah Jones v gus 1 was a classic, the rematch...not so much lol

Izzy vs KG was insane, it's also sad that KG never took his health and keeping his body right seriously, he clearly was champ material outside of the mental aspect. It's a shame.

Agreed. They set the bar so damn high with that 1st fight. Any rematch was gonna be a dissapointment, and unfortunately the 2nd fight wasn't competitive. Which sucks because Gus was NOT competitive with Anthony Johnson either and got starched in a few minutes, but put on a classic title fight with DC and both guys were competitive. Gus clearly was a tough out, but had his ups and downs.

You're right about Gastelum. Always wished he took his health more seriously. Because he took so much undue damage throughout his career in losses, and should have made it easier on himself. Struggling on the scale, etc. Getting beat up. He's tough as fuck, but that's not a good thing when you're fighting guys who are usually bigger than you. He trained with good guys on the westcoast too ... but he's been so up and down throughout his career. Inconsistent.

The problem with KG like you said everybody was going to be bigger than him. What it would have taken to go down a class would have made him easy pickings as that would have just taken too much out of him. Being Latino they think blocking or dodging is pussy. I think he could have done better in the middleweight division if he put more into evading. For a MMA his boxing was decent (he was literally always punching up) but his game plan was always eat two to give one and a possible and he would try to load up on that possible. He was never going to win a championship but top 5 gatekeeper isn't a bad thing.

Time comes for us all watching Prime Jose Aldo versus who he was right before the Conor fight and afterwards are night and day. UFC feeds its old to its young and these guys are taking care of family and whole neighborhoods the UFC has no problem using them to build their younger talents names off of them.

As much as I dislike Jon Jones I'm glad he left before they tried that shyt with him.

Very tough and durable guy. Just looked over his record. Check out the mix of wins and losses in more recent memory.

Also note the number of bonuses he won, but the mix of middleweight / welterweight and multiple catchweight bouts.

Like you said - had he been more consistent during his career, being a legit gatekeeper would have been nothing to scoff at. Guys like Neil Magny have had legit careers in that role (also a fellow TUF cast member with a long career).

Aldo in the WEC and for years in the UFC was the fucking man. Incredible talent.

Felt really bad for him catching that highlight reel from Cokehead McGee in 13 seconds. Who saw that coming? One of the all-time WTF KO moments. Left Aldo in tears in the cage sitting there with his team. All the mind games leading up to the fight, etc.

Good point re: Jones. He did NOT want to hang around and give that superficial shine to Tom Aspinall. Had a couple of close fights before him & knew he wasn't elite like he was (Jones) back in the day. * Also ... with Jones being so ultra competitive ... I think he realized HAD he lost to Aspinall ... he would have wanted the immediate rematch against Tom, and that would have provided further shine to his career. Not something he had any interest in doing ... Aspinall's a dangerous fight, and it's a damn shame the eye injuries ruined the fight with Gane and derailed his (Aspinall's) career. That could have been a great fight with Gane shining after 1 round.
