The Official 2025/2026 NBA Season - The New York Knicks Are The 2026 NBA CHAMPIONS!!!

The Golden State Warriors came just one decision away from getting LeBron James in free agency, as revealed by a report from The Ringerâs Logan Murdock.Â

According to Murdock, the Warriors assembled a small contingent in Las Vegas during the NBA Summer League to push for the team to strike a deal with the Washington Wizards to bring Anthony Davis via trade to Golden State. The deal would have sent Jimmy Butler alongside other assets to the Wizards.Â

The Warriors, however, went cold feet because of Davisâ injury history and his looming contract extension.Â

If the small Warriors group in Las Vegas pulled it off, Golden State would have had the biggest chip to get LeBron James in free agency, potentially pairing him up with Steph Curry, the biggest rival in his career.Â

Leading up to his decision, James was reportedly asking for Davis to be traded to Golden State to sign with them, but it never panned out.

âShould they have tried to trade Jimmy Butler and draft picks for Anthony Davis? At summer league in Las Vegas, a small contingent of Golden Stateâs front office pushed for that path, but ADâs injury history and desire for a new extension ultimately convinced team brass to stay put,â the report reads.

âSo LeBron chose the 76ers, and the Warriors are left to wonder what might have been.â

Ultimately, James signed with the 76ers on a two-year, $8 million contract, the biggest pay cut a superstar took in NBA history.Â[/QUOTE]

Boston wasn't giving him the max.

Isaiah Thomas says he played through the injury that cost him a $200,000,000 supermax, nobody warned him it could end his career. One year later, he signed for $2M

“I get traded to Cleveland. I’m upset because at that point I put my career on the line for something, you could’ve just broke down to me and told me: if you do play, or if we do this, it could possibly be what it happened to be. None of that was stated.”

“It took me three years to really get back to who I am. It was a tough situation, a learning experience for myself. I got real love for Boston and everybody in that organization, I’m not blaming Boston, I’m not blaming those guys, people know what happened, it’s documented.”

“It sucks, because so much was on the line. If I got All-NBA that following year, I’m a super max guy, I’m eligible for the super max. So all of that is in play. That sucks… but you live and you learn. That hurt, because I put my career on the line. And then you trade me too.”

Restricted free-agent guard Reggie Jackson has reached agreement on a five-year, $80 million extension with the Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Pistons president and coach Stan Van Gundy wanted to fully commit to Jackson as one of the franchise's cornerstones and will do so with a substantial investment of $16 million per season. There is no player option in the contract, league sources said.

Van Gundy and general manger Jeff Bower negotiated the deal with Jackson's agent, Aaron Mintz of CAA, over the past 48 hours at the Orlando summer league.

Jackson hadn't pursued offer sheets on the market this summer, focusing on working out a deal with Detroit.

In October, Jackson turned down a four-year, $48 million-plus extension offer with the Oklahoma City Thunder, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Jackson was traded to the Pistons in February, and eventually showed significant flashes of the talent that been relegated to playing behind All-Star Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City. Jackson has had a strong determination to run an NBA team of his own and formed a strong bond with Van Gundy and the young Pistons' core.

Jackson's deal is among the richest of the NBA's young point guard crop. In 27 games after the Oklahoma City Thunder traded him to Detroit in February, Jackson averaged 17.6 points, 9.2 assists and 4.7 rebounds.

In three-plus seasons with the Thunder after getting drafted 24st overall in 2011, Jackson averaged just under 10 points per game as Westbrook's understudy.
