The original Blair Witch trailer and hype machine had people thinking that movie was about to change the world. For one, a lot of people went into that movie thinking it was real.

For better or worst, that piece of shit movie really did change the world. They haven't stopped making found footage movies yet.

My brother saw it opening weekend with his friends and said it was the best thing since sliced bread.

I saw it years later on TV and thought the characters were annoying as fuck and turned it off after less than 10 mins.

You're right about the "found footage" movie popularity for almost 30 years now.

It was the first internet viral push of a movie.. one of the greatest movie flips ever.. a 30,000 film turned into a 100+ million dollar profit.. movie was pure ass.. so ass that I refused to believe that was the end of the movie and sat in my seat and said nope there’s gotta be something at the end credits or they got to add the second movie projector in for the second half.. my boys were laughing they ass off with me sitting down going nope, nope it’s not over, people were looking back at me while leaving asking my boys why they laughing so much and why I was just sitting there, than they told them the reason and chicks were actually feeling sorry for me..than the lights came on I was like fuck this shit I’m ruining the movie line.. me going outside “ save your money , save your money, there’s no fucking witch, just fucking branches and wind blowing tents”.. fuck that movie to this day

Desert Warrior

PRAISE: Im always amazed to hear about a movie that i had no idea existed, who it stars and that it was made years ago. For DW its spent five years on the shelf. The story is kind of basic Princess Hind and her deposed father, King Al-Numan, defy the ruthless Persian-Sasanian Emperor Kisra—who demands all royal daughters as concubines—they flee into the Arabian desert. Aided by a legendary, gold-seeking bandit.
Anthony Mackie does the whole Han Solo Im In For The Money thing and he has a few scenes in which he's ok in.As Jalabzeen Sharlto Copley was interesting at least with what he was given. The movie is visually stunning with a large cast of actors and extras and I could tell what the 150 million dollar budget was spent on. I was in high anticipation for battle scenes and all I could think of while waiting for them was the line from Braveheart: We Didnt get dressed up for nothing !! Fortunately there are a few payoffs but maybe i was just desperate because....

PROBLEMS : The dullness and meandering outweigh the good things in the movie. Characters threaten each other with betrayal and display selfishness over and over again. At times I thought some of the CGI looked awful. It actually looked like they copied and pasted Mackies head onto a stunt man's body. The character development is minimal and then some as there are only audible echoes of what a character went through in the past. I scratched my head on how different factions of people were suddenly inspired because there was absolutely no build up to it ,it just kind of happens. Mackie disappears throughout the movie. Im not sure what other project he was filming at the time but its blatant and unintentionally funny of how he's suddenly gone and reappears again and again.I bet Ben Kingsley filmed his part on a small soundstage and was done in 20 minutes.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 4½

I saw Blair Witch on opening night with my friends. Our original plan was to go see Deep Blue Sea 1st, then sneak into Blair Witch. But the hype was so crazy at the theater that we ended up only being able to see Blair Witch cause security was tight.

I think that may have also been the 1st time I saw theater security taking the job seriously. Before Blair Witch, my cousin and I would go the theater at like 10am and wouldn't leave until after midnight. They didn't give a fuck about theater hopping or kids seeing R rated movies back then.

We went back to theater the next day to see Deep Blue Sea and one of cousin's friends started going off at the ticket line for Blair Witch. "Save your money! Ain't no witch in the movie. Just a bunch of dumb white teens walking around the woods. Get out while you can. Come with me if you want to live!"

His dumbass almost got us kicked out before we could see Deep Blue Sea. Ninja was looking like Rorschach

Tighest security I ever had for a movie was seeing Lincoln in North Vancouver in 2012. I went to well over 100 advanced screenings during the 2000s and early-2010s. Free tickets / prize draw wins, etc. Usually the screenings were the night before the movie's release, or the week of.

For some reason they decided to have the screening for this one a full 3 weeks ahead of the release date, despite the Oscar buzz.

Place was packed ... and they had several security in suits walking around like Secret Service throughout with their little night vision gadgets and shit.

They thought we were all pirates looking to release grainy cam versions to the masses, haha.

Nah ... it was too dark in that bitch, and I had a shitty phone.

When leaving the theater that night ... I half wanted to stop and ask those security guys WHY the fuck they would do a preview 3 weeks early?! It was just asking for trouble, and the suits didn't look like they were having fun walking around for 2.5 hours scanning everyone like they were shady.

The only other time I had seen a movie with that far ahead an advanced screening was The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. They put that one out 5 weeks early for some reason.

It always cracks me up when security is rocking the night vision goggles at a screening. My first thought is "you better hope you even get enough of us to say something nice about this movie to people we know or the theater is going to be empty AF on release day!"
I don't usually see it on anything other than the blockbuster screenings, but it happens.

Exactly. They were walking around constantly for 150 minutes, lol.

With the advanced screenings ... I tried to get free tickets to the blockbusters, action movies, and ones with early Oscar buzz.

What I did in the later years with the contests was enter for ANYTHING if I wanted to see something else (usually a 3D movie or whatever). So I'd enter to win tickets to some shitty rom-com ... and we'd bring along our old 3D glasses and go and check out something much better instead.

lol so I wasn’t the only one that started a revolt against Blair witch I see.. ny had up the price the tix to $9 that yr.. I mostly saw movies for free.. for whatever reason this movie wasn’t playing at my cousin theatre so I actually had to come out of pocket for it so I was extra mad that I actually paid for that shit.. i actually saw the second movie for free the following yr and it was shitty to but I wasn’t as mad cause I didn’t pay for shit.. difference between paying for garbage and getting garbage for free

You saw Blair Witch 2 in theaters after experiencing Blair Witch 1 on opening weekend. I don't care if BW2 was free. I wouldn't have seen that in a theater if they were paying me

I use to go to the movies every week for yrsss for free… either from getting free tix from one of my cousins, going to another theatre that my cousin was a manager at, or some friends.. so for me it was something just to do, plus one of the theatres I use to go to had mad chicks that would go there( whole different topic), would roll with my boys or I might go with a bunch of chicks.. so for me it was something to do that night plus wanted to see how bad this 1 would be, we actually started clowning in the theatre and said the sheriff in the movie sounded like Yosemite Sam, everytime he talked we would mimic his voice and random chicks at the theatre started cracking up off us making jokes.. we mad that wack ass movie seem funny and actually got to holla at some joints off that
