Ultimate Horror Film Thread

Year only half over too

but to be fair... it JUST start with THIS though.

We gotta back all the way to Weapons maybe even further,

Horror doing what John wick Matrix and Disney did taking back the so called "dead" Months of January and February and March weaving themselves into all the dead spots in the schedule.

I saw someone on Twitter say that Hereditary is the line of demarcation

@playahaitian this what pisses me off about a lot of horror youtubers.
They act like the 70s and 80s were the end all be all
There's greatness in every era and we are in a really great era now

^^^^

FACTS.

But you and I have a fundamental disagreement about that OVERAL topic

I believe you should show the utmost respect to ancestors trailblazers and originators.

(ie Stove God and all previous hip hop coke rappers)

I NEVER want to dismiss downplay or minimize what those artists did in the 70s and 80s of horror

there would BE NO HORROR like we know it without it and we see artists now STILL stealing from those ORIGINALS in 2026.

We have to ALSO recognize and give FULL CREDIT to the modern era also OF COURSE.

As with anything? Whenever yo lean to hard either way?

You come off bad.

Definitely but these guys don't even watch the new shit

then they are irrelevant and shouldn't be acknowledged seriously.

Its like hating these new rappers.

One - they aint for me. But dismissing them ALL is limiting MY ability to actually criticize and appreciate the culture overall.

You don't have to LIKE IT, but you can't come from complete ignorance and bias.

And all that old horror wasn't good - TRUST ME. MOST was trash.

they romanticizing and member berries that sh*t.

Yes romanticizing the past
Nostalgia shit

Yes romanticizing the past
Nostalgia shit

which is OKAY within reason.

I don't wanna derail this sh*t.

but I honestly don't know wtf the difference is between nostalgia, easter eggs, meta refences, member berries and a homage and a throwback reference and a deep cut.

IT seems if you LIKE it? then its positive

If you don't like it or didnt get it? Its bad.

Which means to me?

That it aint about sh*t.

Can you explain this more -- What did Hereditary start according to that poster's reasoning?
What I understood is he was saying that there's a before and after Hereditary
Since Hereditary there have been surge of great horror. I think it was a combination of fresh directors, elevating the art, mainstream recognition etc
But I think @playahaitian is right about Get Out
There was probably more but I can't remember lol

It's an opinion so, I guess, it doesn't have to be accurate in an academic sense but that's an arbitrary starting point. True, Get Out could be used instead but so could The Witch or It Follows.
