Yeah, what happened to the free market?.....lolBYD would shutter the EV market here.
Elon would be cryin like a bitch and would have no choice but to dramatically lower the price of Teslas to keep up.

The US literally has tariffs to prevent BYD from coming into this country, that's US support. Plus, the US has always supported the US car industry , peep it:EVs are the future. BYD is heavily subsidized by the Chinese government. The US should support Tesla or we will fall further and further behind.
Yet if we look underneath every product in our home.....80% of it would say "Made in China".Yeah, what happened to the free market?.....lol

Those are gas vehicles. Not EVs. Tariffs aren’t the same as relaxing regulations and providing direct funding like China has been doing for BYD.The US literally has tariffs to prevent BYD from coming into this country, that's US support. "The 2008 financial crisis nearly collapsed the US auto industry ("Big Three"—GM, Ford, Chrysler) due to credit crunches, high gas prices, and plummeting sales. General Motors and Chrysler filed for bankruptcy and received government bailouts to survive, while Ford avoided bankruptcy by securing financing earlier..."

GM, Ford, and Chrysler almost died a decade ago during the financial crisis — here's how the auto giants have changed since
The US auto industry almost died a decade ago amidst the worst financial crises since the Great Depression, Each of the "Big Three" automakers — Ford, GM, and Chrysler — took their individual path to recovery.www.businessinsider.com
The arguments about China helping BYD is always used, but the US governments helps protect and the fund the US car industry also in general. Also, tariffs are direct help to the Tesla, it's protectionism embodied, it's just as good as direct funding. Without that protectionism in the form of tariffs, Teslas would be cooked. These tariffs set up a condition where Tesla can have a monopoly in the US, thus they can overcharge the consumer and reap undue profits. Those are gas vehicles. Not EVs. 1.) China has been having Tariffs against all US automakers for over a decade.
2.) China actually funding BYD is much more effective than tariffs.
3.) The Tesla Model Y is the TOP selling EV in Norway, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, and CHINA without any tariff advantage.
1) What does "China has been having Tariffs against all US automakers for over a decade.." have to do with our discussion, nothing. China does not espouse the virtues of the "free market" like United States does. In terms of the free market, it's only a good thing if the US supports crony capitalism rooted in monopolies, why can't the US compete in the so-called free market globally? That's what many these regime changes were about, to open the way to the free market. Now we know it was just a farce, a lie.1.) 2) As for the "funding BYD is much more effective than tariffs," I guess you didn't read what I wrote. Literally Tesla would barely exist in the United States if the BYD were allowed to sell in the US without tariffs, & also there are US Senators who are ready to propose laws to ban BYD outright. All this creates the conditions for a monopoly. What more help do you need than a monopoly? That creates a whole lane for a corporation to do as it pleases and to charge what it wants so their profits gouge the consumers. Those tariffs aren't horrible for the US consumer.
3) Here you are attempting to parse hairs, you said "The Tesla Model Y is the TOP selling EV in Norway, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, and CHINA without any tariff advantage." I noticed who you said "The Tesla Model Y" specifically without reference the Telsa vs BYD head to head stats in general. I see your slickness....lol. You said it like that because:
"As of early 2026, BYD has overtaken Tesla as the world's top seller of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), selling roughly 2.26 million to Tesla's 1.64 million in 2025. While BYD dominates in overall volume, the Tesla Model Y held the title of the world's best-selling vehicle (all fuel types) in 2025.
So you know BYD is the overall global leader in EVs, that's why you point out specifically the Tesla Model Y.
Did you read what I just wrote? Let me repeat it since you are repeating your same talking points:I'm not sure if you are arguing to maintain the feeling of being "right" or genuinely looking for the truth. Tesla's Model Y outsells all BYD models in multiple countries that don't have tarrifs. This proves that tariffs aren't the only thing holding BYD back from dominating the car market. BYD sells alot of vehicles outside the US because many of them are cheap. Their top selling models are small and not attractive to US consumers. Quite a few would not pass US crash or warranty rules. Tesla is considered a premium EV which is a whole other class. Tesla only makes a handful of models and all but the Cyber truck are top selling EVs. The Model Y outsells every BYD model IN CHINA.
You keep missing my point.Did you read what I just wrote? Let me repeat it since you are repeating your same talking points:

Tariffs aren't the only thing preventing BYD from dominating the American EV market. I'm willing to agree to disagree.
FYI- Tesla has pivoted from trying to be the top selling auto manufacturer to autonomous vehicles which will have increased profit margin. Lets revisit this post in a year.
we are decades away from building infrastructure / grid to match China
the only limit to our ev charging infrastructure is an electrical grid thats been neglected since the 70sDon't you believe that for one minute!
It'll be here in THIS decade.
Soon after Cheeto goes away, it
will commence. The charging infrastructure will not look like China for a good while but these people saying that EVs are not going to blow up any time soon, really don't know what they're talking about.
We will look back at this post at the end of this decade and you will eat your words, lol.
the only limit to our ev charging infrastructure is an electrical grid thats been neglected since the 70s
that is now being even further compromised by AI data centers
Grid Resilience: Neglected No More
Electric grids worldwide are undergoing a transformation as surging electricity demand from data centers and electrification collides with aging, risk-prone infrastructure. This creates both national security imperatives and investment opportunities for grid resilience.www.jpmorgan.com
