Comedy is the hardest. Jokes don't always translate across cultures, languages, genders, and age groups. They often come and go out of fashion as well. Movies with lots of physical humor tend to do better overseas than stuff with US pop culture references/dialogue-driven jokes.
It's not mentioned in the article, but one of the big rules of comedic screenwriting is to (roughly) have three jokes per page. Some folks are naturally funny, but output like that requires a high level of consistency and originality.
