MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Im really hoping for some early matinee screenings for Dune and Doomsday because i would love to see both movies on the same day and i know the run times for both movies will be long.

Definitely sneak in some extra snacks from home to avoid the concession line-ups, Jblaze!

One of my best experiences was going to the Van Film Fest in the fall of 2007 over approx 2 weeks.

Had a pass and the weather was trash and steady raining. The venue was downtown and had 7-8 screens.

They allowed you to bring food and drink from home, or use concession. People had small backpacks and most people used ziplocs for snacks.

So many movie buffs there so people were quietly snacking.

I tried to maximize my viewing and see as many movies with guaranteed T&A as possible. It worked out, haha!

Project Hail Mary

I had no clue what this was about. I saw the trailer in bits, and still didn't know.

It was sci fi and got good reviews, so I was down.

I really enjoyed this. It was funnier than I expected it to be. The flashbacks were done well. It definitely will be in my top ten. You want a pet Rocky at the end.

Listen to then-audiobook its a masterpiece. This movie turned a scientific thesis into E. T. 2026. Cool movie, its just not what the book was about at all. The tone of the movie should have been closer to 2001 in my opinion.

Dangerous Animals

As Zephyr Hassie Harrison turns in a good performance and also a physical one making her character very believable. I liked how resourceful she was.

Finished this documentary the other day. I had watched a portion of it previously, and finished the 2nd half when visiting pops earlier in the week.

Definitely recommend it for the film & movie buffs.

It was released in the fall of 2024, and Williams himself turned 94 last month.

It's a look at his life and prolific career. What a stretch he's had the past 50 years. Gdamn!

PRAISE: How do you change the usual the world is going to end if we dont get to points A & B story? By condensing but simultaneously making the story elaborate in various ways. This is not an easy feat but this movie pulls it off with charming characters, how it chooses to structure its story and its coupled with humor and strong visuals. As Ryland Grace ,Ryan Gosling displays enough physical humor, raw emotion and wit as a brilliant teacher who's mission is to save the world from an apocalyptic path. There are decisions the character could have made possibly feeling he had every right to do so and I liked how the movie plays out in a way that reveals what the character truly is inside. Within the story there are great moments that display how even the most brief and fast friendships can mean the most surpassing this alliance is just for us to complete a goal factor. There are great nods to movies and great jokes about astronaut training and space exploration. There are definitely a couple of dark turns i didn't see coming. There are some changes from the book that I didn't mind.

PROBLEMS: There are a couple of plot holes i couldn't ignore. The pacing definitely could have been better in several moments of the movie.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8

Wow an 8.

I kept seeing on twitter how so many seats were sold out for this movie.
I guess it’s really good

Another man movie bout to be released ... I need this hand to hand combat violence in my life

Thanks for the link. Mentioned it to some friends and coworkers. Emailed it to my dad (who I took to The Raid movies as advanced screenings back in the 2010s).

He replied -

"Extra popcorn and a big screen. YES!"

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of 20 critics' reviews are positive.[16]

Chris Bumbray of JoBlo gave The Furious a 7/10 and compared it to The Raid (2011), describing it as a "kick-ass, crowd-pleasing ride" despite not reaching the latter's hype due to "clunky" dialogue, overdubbing, and technical inadequacies, but overall delivering a "sheer adrenaline and crowd-pleasing ferocity" with "dynamic and unrelentingly brutal" action choreography.[17] Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com wrote that while the film suffers from "atrocious" dialogue and "goofy" plotting, it features "well-directed and choreographed" stunt work by Kenji Tanigaki that delivers "the most impressive fight scenes in years".[18] Andrew Webster of The Verge also praised the film as an "absolutely unrelenting and bone-crunching action movie", particularly its "brutal yet balletic" fight scenes and the "inventiveness and playfulness" where "everything can be part of the choreography".[19]
