Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

Is a satire that has a commentary about a lot of stuff in our society. From social media to AI to human interaction to teenagers to violence in America

It's like Terminator mixed with Everything Everywhere All...

It may have some pacing issues, because some characters aren't really developed and some you don't care about. It could have been shortened a little.

It's a movie that has a large rewatchable factor, because of how thought provoking it is. Glad I caught it at the movies, in an era when people complain about movies, but don't support more original indie non-IP movies.

Been hearing good things about this one

Crime 101

PRAISE: This movie has the vibe and atmosphere of the 1981 movie Thief but it definitely becomes its own thing. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters that include Chris Hemsworth as Mike Davis,Halle Berry as Sharon,Mark Ruffalo as Detective Lou Lubesnick, Barry Keoghan as Ormon, Monica Barbaro as Maya and, Corey Hawkins as Tillman also their conversations even when brief are memorable which are connected to some very good performances. Director and writer Bart Layton displays the flipside of heists and robberies from the well planned and smooth to the chaotic and violent. His story of a jewel thief targeting high stakes heists along the 101 freeway includes that you've done everything right in life but what you are receiving is disrespect and no recognition can push a person to start drawing outside of the lines. There's a moment in movies like this in which I start rooting for the "bad guy" but I also want to see the one that's pursuing the bad guy to have a moment of redemption and I think the movie does this in an involving way. There was a wrench in the works factor that stirred up just the right amount of worry in me. There are a couple of nice to see you cameos.I know some critics had a problem with how the last 12 minutes of the movie play out but I didn't because I remembered the signs.

PROBLEMS: One of the subplots could have been a bit stronger. There was an extremely unintentionally funny moment. A couple of predictable turns.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8

No Time to Die
2021

7.5/10

I watched this yesterday afternoon at home.

Netflix recently uploaded the whole James Bond catalog, I went through it and realized I hadn’t watched the last Daniel Craig film.

Being I’m the last person on the forum who probably hasn’t seen it, I’m not going to go into it.

Bond has retired from MI6 and has gotten himself involved with a woman. This continues the sub-plot of Craig’s version of Bond getting involved with women romantically.

Ernst Blofeld is in prison and still manages to scheme from there taking out SPECTRE.

Rami Malek plays the main villain Lyutsifer Safin. He does a decent performance of combining past evil Bond actors into one character.

The film touches on the ongoing debate of making 007 a Black person. The film does a decent job of making the point that it’s not a good idea and the franchise will continue with White Men portraying James Bond. The film gave recognition to past actors who portrayed ‘M’ in past films.

The film does a somewhat suspenseful job of closing out Craig’s Bond. I doubt they will try to bring him back. He does look aged in this film, so high chance he won’t be coming back in future films.

Overall, it was a decent film. Daniel Craig did a good job with the franchise and set up a good foundation for future interpretations of the character.

Synopsis

Daniel Craig returns as Agent 007 in an emotional and action-packed story about a retired Bond pulled back in to stop a villain with dangerous new technology.

Curious about the extremely unintentionally funny moment?
saw last night and while I had some laughs throughout nothing that I even remember exactly now… Pretty much agree with your all positives take but wouldn’t rate it that much higher than 6.5/10

Only thing I’d add is - interesting that last 2 major flicks I recall seeing that are filmed in LA both have similar have/have nots greed/safety focuses/themes — GOOD FORTUNE being the other.

edit: ps - you can throw up a spoiler blur-out for the board or hit me direct if you get back

My bro just told me very similar take - noting the pacing issues

Said COLD STORAGE is as similar in the ways I assumed from the bits of each flicks trailers I caught.

And that CS was his preference bec of its efficiency. He was still positive on both too.

I hope to see both in theaters if I still can

Venom: The Last Dance
2024

5/10

I watched the last film in the trilogy last night at home on Netflix with my sons.

Not much to say about it. The story wasn’t as engaging as the first two films. It gives references to Thanos/Infinity Stones and what Doctor Strange had done with Venom/Eddie.

The film introduced other Symbiotes working along with Venom to take on a new Celestial villain that is introduced called ‘Knull’ who is after the Symibiote Codex in Venom. It’s revealed that Symbiotes came to Earth for refuge from Knull.

The film ends closing out all plots from the two prior and introducing new plots for possible spin-off films in the SONY SpiderMan franchise.

This film should be on Disney+ within a year with the first two films already on their service.

Synopsis

The plot follows Eddie and Venom as they are on the run from forces from both their worlds, leading to a final, devastating decision.

No raid redemption, no watchmen, no winter soldier, no avengers 3, no saw.. fuck this list to high hell
Black got you covered

One of the best trailers for one of the best goddamn superhero movies ever made, watchmen, moral of the story being a superhero sucks, greatest story ever told, the trials and tribulation of being a superhero, the choices they make, the pain and sorrow they go through, not being socially accepted.. this ain’t no carebear world , sometimes people gotta die in order to save lives, not everyone gonna be saved, not every hero is a saint.. fucking watchmen now this is a superhero movie I can standby.. 15 yrs ahead of its time..now look at shows like the boys where they doing the same thing and people embrace it.. watchmen was supposed to be a billion dollar made movie, people just wasn’t ready for it

Now this is a fucking trailer

I remember seeing the trailer and had no idea who the fuck any of these people were, what the story was about, but I was intrigued.. thoroughly enjoyed this movie… seen it multiple times over the years

The Astronaut
2025

4/10

This popped up in my Hulu recommendations last month. The trailer caught my eye along with seeing Lawrence Fishburne co-star. I watched it last night on the road.

It’s a Sci-Fi thriller with a premise that has been done a million times since the 1960s.

The highlight of the film is watching this White Chick do all the classic stereotypical stuff that White Chcks are famous for doing in horror/thriller films since the 1950s. Without spoiling it, there is a reason why that’s revealed at the end.

Suspense is done well, but predictable. There aren’t any jump scares in it. Nothing really for VFX/SFX.

It’s an entertaining film, it’s presented well to keep your eyes glued to the screen.

For the Militants, there is a BM who is the step-father to a WW.

Synopsis

The Astronaut is a sci-fi horror film starring Kate Mara as astronaut Sam Walker, who returns from her first space mission with amnesia and begins experiencing hallucinations, fearing an extraterrestrial entity followed her home.

Walking Tall
1973

6.5/10

I had last saw this flick back in the 80s on network TV. While watching it, it was obvious they edited out all the language/violence. So it didn’t seem all that interesting at the time.

I was searching through my cable service looking for something unrelated sometime last year and stumbled upon this flick, so I programmed my DVR to record it whenever it came on. It recorded it last month from Turner Classic Movies (TCM). I watched it this past Monday night at home.

The film plays out much better than I remember it, being it was unedited with TCM. All the violence/language along with some female nudity was shown.

It’s cast with a lot of familiar actors from the era from classic films/TV series. Especially from 70s Blaxploitation flicks. If you are a Child of the 70s and familiar with the South, the film brings back memories of Southern fashion/culture.

Benjamin Mankiewicz, who is one of TCM’s hosts, gave a brief overview of the film at the end. From the time this film was made, it was believed that Buford’s wife was murdered by an unknown gunman. A retired detective in the 2000s went back and reexamined the case and it was discovered that the evidence actually proved that Buford had killed his wife. Buford died in 1974, so nothing could proceed with the case and why Buford killed his wife is unknown.

The revelation hasn’t damaged Buford Pusser’s reputation or being an iconic legendary lawman.

For the Militants, Buford uses the ‘N-Word’ once. A number of racial scenes are shown, nothing graphic, but gives insight on racism in the South in the early 70s.

TCM has a good, clean remastered version of the film.

Synopsis

Walking Tall is a cult classic action film starring Joe Don Baker as Buford Pusser, a former professional wrestler who becomes a lawman in McNairy County, Tennessee, and wages a violent, personal war against local crime and corruption.

Blumhouse revealed its spooky first footage for the horror feature that adapts Kane Parsons’ YouTube series.

A24 releases director Parsons’ film theatrically May 29. The project stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell and Avan Jogia.

Backrooms centers on two people who find a mysterious door in the basement of a furniture showroom.

“I found something,” Ejiofor says in voiceover during the teaser trailer. “I found a place. It’s massive in there and just goes on and on and on. All these rooms — this place builds them. Actually, more like it remembers them, and the more times it remembers something, the less it does.

Piece by Piece
2024

8/10

I watched this last night on the road. I had it saved on Netflix for some time.

I had doubts about watching it cuz the entire film is done in Lego’s, but I gave it a chance and I was immediately sucked in within 5 minutes when it started.

The film has Pharrell doing voiceover through out. There are scenes with the characters talking amongst themselves. The format of the film is somewhat similar to how a regular documentary is done with collaborators talking to someone off to the side from the camera.

It starts out with Pharrell discussing life in Virginia, how he hooked up with Chad and Shay. He goes through the list of all the artists he went to High School with in Virginia. It goes into him meeting Teddy Riley and then his jump into becoming a beat maker/producer for a wide range of artists.

He goes through all the hit songs in his catalog with the actual artists giving their feedback on when they first heard Pharrell’s music that he presented to them.

Pharrell discusses when he has a slump in his career and his rebound back to the top.

The film’s last 15 minutes is where it slows down with Pharrell giving his weird perspective on life.

Overall, it’s an entertaining documentary. It’s funny watching re-enactments of hip-hop videos of female Lego pieces dancing in bikinis. Majority of the profanity is bleeped out, but a couple words are slipped through which make it funny seeing Lego pieces cuss.

Synopsis

Piece by Piece is an animated documentary about Pharrell Williams' life, told through LEGO animation, directed by Morgan Neville. It follows his journey from childhood to becoming a music icon, featuring interviews with collaborators like Chad Hugo, Gwen Stefani, and Kendrick Lamar.

I recently watched the trailer for this movie on Hulu. How was the movie?

Crime 101

I just liked it, when I thought I would love it. I like heist movies and this was a pretty good one. It's a couple of good chase scenes. started strong, and then started falling off. The ending was too convenient and Hollywood. I didn't care about the love story.

For a long movie, it left a lot of things unanswered. And some of the characters actors seemed bipolar. For example, at times Chris Hemsworth would be awkward around women, then other times he turned into a mack. Other characters like Mark Ruffalo were the same way. I thought you were cop of the year?

Chris Hemsworth accent seemed to come and go. I thought Barry Keoghan was miscast. He was creepy and weird, when he needed to tone it down. It was like he was a different movie. Halle was the best to me. Mark Ruffalo was similar to his Task role.

I think people will like it on Amazon though.
