UPDATE: Donald Trump Takes Office as the 47th US President

@praetor - he has a chance?

Given how Texas is looking, I don't want to rule it out. But Florida republicans are not taking a wait and see approach.

"While President Donald Trump is struggling to get the U.S. Senate to pass a measure requiring Americans to present a birth certificate or passport before registering to vote, Florida lawmakers look certain to enact such a state law.

Republican leaders are uniting behind efforts voting rights advocates warn will bar thousands of Floridians from casting ballots.

The measure, though, will add chaos to the midterm elections in Florida, critics said.

Abdelilah Skhir, senior strategist with the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, recently told a Senate committee that 8 million Floridians don’t have a valid passport and more than 4.7 million women in Florida do not have a birth certificate bearing their current legal name.

Those numbers hint at the number of potential voters who could face bureaucratic hurdles created by the bill, critics point out.

Those already registered but changing address, party or name, would have to produce a Florida driver’s license, Florida ID or last four-digits of a Social Security number.

But any snafu with these records, or problem accessing them at the state’s Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles, would send these previously registered voters back to produce documents showing proof of U.S. citizenship.

Minority voters, students, women and those relocating from out of state are among those expected to be most affected by the change, critics said."
