Cold Storage

PRAISE: If you take a few alien virus movies and add a huge sense of humor to them you have Cold Storage oh and throw in a couple of zombie flicks. The story is about two employees at a self-storage company having the wildest shift of their lives when a parasitic fungus that was sealed by the government escapes. The cast including Georgina Campbell, Joe Keery, Sosie Bacon, Vanessa Redgrave, Lesley Manville, and Liam Neeson all look like they were having a good time. There are plenty of great one liners as the screenplay has fun with all of the basic paths that will lead to the mayhem that plays out. Body horror, fluids and fungus are plentiful and then some, plus throw in some good kills that are not for the faint of heart.

PROBLEMS: There were moments when characters are ultra oblivious to logic and reason so much so it became a bit annoying.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

okay real talk?

You would make a killing with these reviews they are PERFECT for tiktok and instagram.

Short quick funny as hell and memorable.
Lmao.. if you want to keep it real., the reason I got a iPad back in 2020 during Covid cause I wanted to do my version of honest trailers but with various topics .. from movies, to sports, to series, to different biz, etc.. people been wanted me to do my versions.. it was gonna be my voice( probably change it a lil) with visuals of the topic.. I rather not be seen and heard.. make money and not be famous.. just a bunch of shit happened around Covid that got distracted. Than a few family emergencies had to attend to and never got a chance to get it done.. the idea is still there as well as other ideas I had prior 2020 and after that I might have to jump on

I'm sitting here watching Captain America Winter Soldier thinking we had one hell of a run and we didn't even realize how good we had it.

We had an entire series of movies that were directly or indirectly related that were largely good to great.

It was eerily reminiscent of the time and music between 1984 and 1997 where we had so many amazing artists that debuted that if you were born or discovered music during that period it would be like you were born rich. You wouldn't know anything different. You would think this is the way it's supposed to be

Iron Man 1, avengers, Captain America winter soldier, Captain America Civil war, Infinity war, endgame, Black panther, pick two of the Guardians of the Galaxy, leave whichever one you think is the least favorite out, but at least two of them were good. Ant-Man was good. Wakanda Forever was as good as it could have been.

We seriously had movies that were really good for years. I don't know if I'll ever come to that era of movies again

Shattered Glass
2003

7.5/10

I’ve stated earlier that I’m going through the filmography of my future ex-wife, Melanie Lynskey. This film she co-stars in and I watched it last night at home on tubi.

It’s based on actual events in 1998. The film takes place during the time the news media was focused on President Clinton’s sexual adventures which somewhat plays in the premise of the film. It’s a ‘political thriller’ with the suspense focused around the main characters performance of hiding his lies.

The highlight of the film starts around the one hour mark. Hayden Christensen goes into “Anakin Skywalker’ mode with his performance. What adds to it is co-star Peter Sarsgaard who has an uncanny resemblance to actor Ewan McGregor’s ‘Obi Won Kenobi’. Their performance on screen starting at the one hour mark plays out the way Anakin/Kenobi were in Episodes 2/3 prequel films.

For the Thirsty, Melanie Lynskey has a minor role and she looks like she is in the 10th grade in high school with her looks. She hasn’t filled out yet from how she looked in ‘Two and a Half Men’. Actress Chloë Sevigny co-stars and looks smashable. This film came out the same year she did ‘The Brown Bunny’ where she did her infamous sex graphic sex scenes with Vincent Gallo. Rosario Dawson co-stars in a minor role and looks smashable.

The film has a number of well known recognizable actors from the era and some who were just starting out their acting careers in minor roles.

Before the end credits roll, their is a brief dark screen and follows with a update of the main characters directly after the events in the film.

Synopsis

Is a biographical drama film about the rise and fall of journalist Stephen Glass, who fabricated many of his stories for The New Republic magazine in the 1990s.

Written and directed by Billy Ray, the film stars Hayden Christensen as Glass, with Peter Sarsgaard as editor Chuck Lane, who uncovers the fraud, and Steve Zahn as a Forbes.com reporter who investigates.

It's a critically acclaimed, fact-based story about journalistic ethics, deception, and the pressure to succeed, based on a Vanity Fair article by H.G. Bissinger.

One of my funniest movie memories ...

I used to win LOTS of tickets to premieres / advanced screenings in the 2000s and 2010s. I'd take friends and family to movies, or just hand the tickets off to friends. When I won tickets (purposely) to movies I wasn't interested in, I'd just go and see something else while there, if feasible. I'd bring along the 3D glasses (from a previous movie) when needed. Won tickets to some random romantic comedy and told my pops let's go see the 1st Avengers movie instead. At the multiplex the staff was hanging around in that hallway for ages and we had time to kill so we loitered around like we were headed into cinema #3, while waiting on cinema #8 or whatever. Went to Avengers and wasn't sure what my dad would think, as he isn't into superhero movies.

He really enjoyed it and said it was definitely better than expected!

Other funny movie memory with him. Took him to the 1st The Raid movie. Place was PACKED. People were amped and loving it. My dad's pretty quiet and reserved. Deadpan at times. Really tough to get a read on him. We left the theater and people were buzzing. Asked my dad what he thought not expecting much. "9 out of 10 ... that was EXCELLENT!"

Heart Eyes
2025

4.5/10

I watched this movie earlier tonight at home on Netflix.

It’s a Rom-Com/Horror flick giving a different twist to the genre. It opens up like traditional slasher flicks, from there it plays out like the usual Hallmark Channel Rom-Com.

Around the 30 minute mark, the film kicks in to a traditional slasher flick.

Violence is graphic on the level of the ‘Walking Dead’ franchise. Suspense is predictable.

For the Militants, there is interracial tension between a BM/WW, just PDA is shown.

The premise is nothing new with the slasher plot. There is a not surprising twist towards the end. The film has a definitive conclusion, but it’s possible there could be a sequel.

The main actor is also actor Cuba Gooding Jr’s son. He looks like his mother.

There is one mid-credit scene.

Synopsis

Heart Eyes is a 2025 slasher film directed by Josh Ruben about a masked killer with glowing red eyes who targets couples on Valentine's Day, forcing two cynical coworkers to fight for their lives.

Paramount already said they would be mass firing if they got time Warner aka thousands of jobs lost.. while Netflix plans on not firing a single person cause they said time Warner is a whole different division that they trying to be a part of aka the theatre sector.. they want to expand their reach by being the number 1 streaming company as well as a powerhouse in the theatre game.. in fact they would love to tap in the multi billion dollar market and than get exclusive rights when it goes from theatre to home viewing aka streaming.. so imagine a Batman release in the movies it makes a billion or so than when it comes out the theatre you can only watch it on Netflix.. this is how they kill the market in both genres.. paramount on the other hand is struggling with their streaming platform and kinda off with their movie releases and leadership.. you would rather go with the company that was smart with innovation in seeing the power of streaming and knocked out a powerhouse in blockbuster with the rent to watch circuit… Netflix also has a broader audience so even if a film doesn’t do as great in the theatre at least when its go to streaming more people will be able to watch the content.. which is how some films become cult classics

Agreed.

It's interesting to see which stuff has become cult classics over the decades (80s to 2020s) once building that following on VHS, DVD or blu-ray, and now streaming.

Stuff when you go back and read did so-so / mediocre on the big screen.

Funny thinking back to the OLD DAYS in the 80s before home VCRs were affordable. I still recall tagging along with pops to one of the local video stores wherein they'd rent you a VCR (and it came in a suitcase of sorts). Take that home with your movie(s) and bring it back in 2 days or so. Him or mom would call up some family friends and invite them over for movie night. Ballin' - out Popcorn and everything!! Then some other video stores like Rogers Video, Westcoast Video, ABC (where I would use my mom's card and rent pornos in my teens).

Then of course Blockbuster in the 90s and early-2000s and whatnot.

good Ole days. It was that stuff that made us able to convince pops to buy a betamax and later a vhs and then a camcorder. And how I started to learn about early tech and become the child slave labor tv repairman in the building and family.

Our families sound the same. Pops never bought the Betamax, but got a VCR as soon as they were reasonably priced & an early camcorder. He was also into fixing large stereos & CD players, etc. He finds computers daunting and overwhelming though, and gets flustered with them despite having a home PC for many years.

I've told that story on here that got good laughs back in the day. Pops asked bro and I what we wanted for Christmas in the EARLY days of digital cameras. We said a digital camera as a Christmas gift.

He proceeded to buy us a pink Barbie digital camera which was NOT compatible with our piece of junk home PC. He returned that one, and he's got a bad habit of buying OUTDATED stuff without asking just because it's priced right. So in the mid-2000s he bought me a yellow WALKMAN as a birthday gift and got pissed off when I was sour at receiving the gift. I had already owned a DISCMAN for nearly a decade by then, and a RIOPORT mp3 player for years.

The fuck is Funk gonna do with a yellow WALKMAN which I already had back around 1989 or 1991?

Funk can't have ladies panties dropping carrying that brick around in my pocket 20 years ago or so.

Daddy Funk Frugal>>>>>>>>

He's an interesting character, Playa. Many parts frugal / many parts extremely generous with friends and family ... especially as he's gotten older.

He told me years ago he had a shopping addiction of sorts. He couldn't "turn down a deal" - especially when visiting the States.

TJ Maxx or Ross ... he'd just buy stuff for himself, or for family.

I don't know how many times I had to think of clever excuses to turn down a yellow t-shirt, purple hat, or XXXL parka (as a skinny tall dude).

"Thank you" (puts item in the closet never to be worn).

Fall
2022

6/10

This film came up on my Google home page earlier this month about it being released on Netflix. It caught my attention and I watched it last night at home on Netflix.

The premise isn’t anything new, but the setting of the film is what makes it stand out.

It does a quick character development at the beginning with the main character who is the brunette. The film then goes into SHTF stage around 30 minutes in.

It’s one of those films with White People (especially White Chicks) doing something completely stupid without putting any thought into what they are about to do. It’s pointed out throughout the start of the female’s climb to the audience, that the radio tower is obviously not safe to climb, if you took about 10 minutes to make a quick observation from the ground.

The VFX/SFX of the characters on the tower look great and believable. This is definitely a film that was made for the movie theatres and not for home viewing. It probably looks great in 3-D and through VR Goggles.

There is a small twist towards the end that gives a different outlook on the events that happened 30 minutes prior.

Suspense plays out well, nothing to scare you or make you jump.

For the Foot Fiends, plenty of shots of bare WW feet.

Cubs Gooding Jr’s son has a small role in the film.

It’s an entertaining film overall.

Synopsis

Fall is a survival thriller about two best friends, Becky (Grace Caroline Currey) and Hunter (Virginia Gardner), who get stranded atop a 2,000-foot-tall abandoned radio tower in the desert after a climbing stunt goes wrong. The film follows their desperate fight to survive against vertigo, lack of supplies, and the elements, with the help of their rusty climbing skills and a drone.
