It was the summer or fall of 1996 that I first discoverd BGOL. At that time it was mostly a picture board with a few animated GIFs. I was fresh out of grad school working for a company that was behind DirectTV so the concepts around video compression were a big deal. I noticed that BGOL's founder started posting little 1 or 2 minutes videos which led to me to ask how he was compressing those videos.

But from there, I just became a regular. I never posted much (definitely a lurker lol). I generally responded to topics about Tech, or Sci Fi / Fantasy shows and politics, but BGOL was always a DAILY mandatory check in. I'll never forget on 9/11, that I was headed to work (downtown DC) and before I could get on the train, the planes hit first building. I went back home and instantly got on BGOL to see what Brothers was saying. It was the primary source of my information from the Black community/perspective

I went full time remote in 2007 and for 15 years, I stayed with one eye on my work computer and my other eye on my personal computer logged into BGOL. I went back into an office in 2023 and after a few muscle memory aided blocked attempts at going to BGOL in the office, I found myself not checking in every day. A year ago when I re-upped my membership, I DM'ed V and said what did he think was going to happen with the site and he confided in me he thought the end was near

Today, it's youtube channels, podcasts, vlogs, etc that can give you the black perspective, but nothing like the direct real time interaction with brothers from all over the world that BGOL gave you.

So shout out to V, all the board mods, all the regular contributors that made this place great over the years. In the old days I know I would get clowned for posting this sentimental shite, but I'm over 50 now and don't give a fuck.

PEACE YALL BGOL FORVER

That "Is this topic already being discussed" feature would have been hell usfeul about 15 years ago lol
The older you get, the older we get, the more we start to appreciate things and find what really matters.

I found BGOL in either 2000 or 2001, not sure. I was working at Cuyahoga community college, and like an idiot I was going on BGOL from my work computer. Since the site didn't qualify as porn I got away with it until I started looking up porn on my work computer like an idiot then I got the call to cease and desist that dumb shit

To be young

For 25 years I've been coming here. A lot of knowledgeable people on here, from all walks of life, but more particularly Black life.

We are all anonymous here, but there are people who are connected. It was posted on here that Michael Jackson died before it was on CNN. I don't know how the fuck we pulled that one off

I remember in 2003 maybe One of you guys help me install my DVD burner on my desktop computer. That's the type of help we get here. And though I have only met One of you in person, this is the one place I go to everyday.

Much love to all you brothers. I'll be 49 in 3 days. Even without the porn, this is the place to be

Long live Jody Breeze

Done spent our whole damn adult life on here lol.

On my deathbed I plan to say goodbye to y'all then factory reset my phone

Back in the 2000s I was recording someone's BGL in narrative notes at work. In regards to their Blood Glucose Level, I wrote - "Their BGOL was ..."

I then panicked and edited the entry ... hoping no one would question what BGOL was, or recognize the name.

First rule of Fight Club ... we don't talk about it.

Damn 1996!

The good old days of Online-Video / BGOL.

It was the fall of 1997 for me.
My account says 2007 but I found this place in 2006, I lurked for a while and in 07 I finally made an account.

I was on AllHipHop and SOHH, somehow this site was mentioned and I've been here ever since.

I've been on the net for the longest and am unsure how this site never came to my attention before 07?

@Helico-pterFunk i didnt find BGOL til '98. I was on MTV and yahoo chat til then. Found BGOL neva looked back.

Agreed. I think I happened across BGOL via a Yahoo Search, or something similar. My brother was big on looking at softcore nude models like Playboy and Penthouse. He would get to those centerfold archives sites and shit. One day he happened across SEARCH HISTORY and told me we needed to clear that shit regularly or face the wrath of mom.

Those days were fun in the early-2000s ... Yahoo Messenger / ICQ / Bearshare / Kazaa.

Dont get it twisted though my nasty ass uncle had me and big bro on NewsGroups EARLY. That was the original basement. I had big ass keloids on my frontal lobes before I ever thought to step foot in here

I think what's what my friend Graham showed us friends at a house party once - the newsgroups (for random photos).

We would always be at his place as he had one of those black box cable descramblers which was good for the movie channels and PPV boxing.

And shoutout to the prof in 1995-1996 in our intro to computers course in high school. He taught us how to use email in class, and we were all amazed. Sending emails to our friends on the other side of the classroom. Crazy shit. High tech.

Any whiteboy named Graham will have you in the shit. I had one of my own.

Cool as fuck. That was my road dawg growing up.
Oh yeah, he was unexpectedly athletically talented, but not athletic. Used to roll up 5 deep and mob at gyms across the city. Knew all the rap songs and smoked amd fucked with almost exclusively sistas strangely... but his folks had long dough amd old money and he eventually succame to the pressures of his folks. Married a pretty little white bih though I wont even lie, but always kept them nigga-rish ways. Havent seen that dude in 15 years but he was one of my og ride or dies since grade school. Shout out to G Perks wherever you are! My dog!

Fcuk that! I plan on getting a Lifetime membership and willing it to my son on my deathbed!
I wouldn’t recommend that for all members, because some sons will be saying “My Dad was a fag”!

G over here was a wild one. Came from humble beginnings. Never met his pops, but lived with his mom and sister. His mom was a piece of shit. Trailer trash woman who was erratic. My mom always suspected she was abusive and wanted to report her, but had no rock-solid proof. Told me she didn't mind having him around our house as at least he wasn't at home.

He wasn't athletic, but always hung out with the rest of us who were and participated.

Went to a different high school, and rolled with some bad dudes in his late-teens. I had to cut ties with him as they were ALWAYS in trouble. Arrests, etc. He then spent a bunch of time with random big-tittied white girlfriends. Had a few kids. Now works in the forestry industry about 5 hours away.
