My singers will get this 100%. Brandy came forward and said she can no longer do certain songs from the Full Moon album because they were recorded out of her range. And while she did them, she did them in her twenties, now in her 40s that voice ain't the same, the recovery isn't the same, that range isn't the same.

I've been singing since I was two, and there are certain songs I was able to sing when I was younger that I can't sing to completion now. the Beautiful Ones by Prince is one of them, many of the Boyz II Men Wanya notes where he's going off are the same way.

I MIGHT get there, and I might not. If I don't think I can make it. I'll amend the song to a lower note, because if I don't I risk either a crack OR hitting it and not being able to talk tomorrow.

Anyone who's sung the National anthem knows that if you accidentally start the song too high you screw yourself because it forces you into an area of difficulty where the adjustments might change the song Too much, so you have to find that note in your head before you start to ensure that you'll be able to finish the song.

Doing the national anthem is not impossible, but I've heard some singers at ballgames make the mistake, start beautiful and end it awfully. I've since adjusted to singing the Marvin Gaye version which is palatable and far easier to do than the regular one

Singing for 47 years, I've learned a lot about my voice, what it can and what it can't do. What it used to do and what it can't do anymore. I've been lucky enough to win more than $6,000 in talent show money killing it, and knowing some show KILLERS that I can't do anymore, and some of those songs were "soprano beaters" (because a a soprano vs a tenor in a talent show can be a slaughter if the tenor doesn't bring it)
