You ever seen this movie from a few years back? One of Bautista's best roles ...

In the film, a family is vacationing at a remote cabin when they are suddenly held hostage by four strangers who ask them to do something unimaginable.

Knock at the Cabin premiered in New York City at the Rose Hall on January 30, 2023, and was theatrically released in the United States on February 3, 2023, by Universal Pictures. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed over $54 million worldwide.

Almost… no.. 1 of my fave starscream type characters in a movie.. the second in command that really wants to be first but the top dog in their way.. mad deceitful, unpredictable, that has violent streaks..these my fave type of characters.. killed ole boy pops than called him “almost” cause he almost saved him.. cold blooded, threw the weak sickly person off the bridge.. character unhinged.. I was rooting for him and not the top villain.. starscream character certified.. r.i.p i loved your character and still use that term “almost” off the strength of the movie

Never gonna watch again.. this is what this movie was to me..pointless

Send Help

PRAISE: A spoonful of Misery and a dash of Horrible Bosses are the ingredients that make Send Help. Rachel McAdams as Linda Liddle Dylan O’Brien as Bradley Preston are perfect together in this movie. From their facial expressions to their responses it was very easy to watch these two go through the paces on a remote island together. Oh how will things play out with a bad boss and a passed over employee? The answer provided is Director Sam Raimi providing his signature style of passage of time sequences and gorefest action sequences, coupled with the twisty writing of Writers Damian Shannon and
Mark Swift. There are some great body horror moments that definitely got a response from fellow theater goers. Even the 3D was put to good use in several sequences. It was great to sit there and recall movies like The Edge along with a good and funny nod to Castaway. I loved that a hint of sinister was always present.

PROBLEMS: Sure Bradley is a smug and then some character and deserves some comeuppance and years of underappreciation can pick away at someone's mind like Linda's but it was hard for me to buy into a couple of over the top moments. There are a couple of predictable turns.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8½

The Wrecking Crew

PRAISE: There is a triangle of estrangement when it comes to brothers Dave Bautista as rock-solid family man, James Hale, a former Navy SEAL turned drill instructor and Jason Momoa as the loose cannon cop and their father Walter. But the brothers must get past all of the familial obstacles of the past to find their fathers killer. This is a great action romp. With all of the fun that's being had by the cast including Roimata Fox, Morena Baccarin,Stephen Root,Claes Bang and last and nowhere near the least my wife in another life Frankie Adams I could easily look past some basic buddy cop cliches in the screenplay by Jonathan Tropper.Director Ángel Manuel Soto wisely keeps things moving and directs the hell out of some hand to hand fights and one of the greatest action sequences I've ever seen in a movie. Also where did they find that great sword featured in one of the fights. Momoa and Bautista get along just fine as they work out some past angst and deliver on the action.

PROBLEMS: There is an ultra predictable turn in the movie. The green screen was a bit off in an action sequence.

Johnny Be Good

This is one of those late 1980's teen comedies i never watched until a couple of days ago. What i do remember is how heavily promoted it was in magazines with multiple posters and ads. The marketing team heavily promoted that Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon was going to be in the movie. It's about Johnny Walker, a student at Ashcroft High School, is the top high school quarterback prospect in the nation, and is being heavily recruited by many schools. Some parts of the movie are very clunky but some parts are extremely funny.especially a scene that includes Anthony Michael Hall ,Robert Downey Jr., Paul Gleason, Jennifer Tilly,an elephant , a lot of pizza and a host of other people. If you need some laughs in your life this is for you.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

I watched the Real Kingpins of Miami last night. Convertible Burt looks good. He aged really well. This isn't some well put together doc. I watched it, because I knew a few of the people it talks about. It's only about 45 minutes or so. Unless you was there, knew the people, or from the 305, you probably wouldn't be interested.

Deadly Friend
1986

4/10

I watched this flick last night on the road on tubi. Some folks on the board had mentioned it in another thread, so it caught my interest.

It’s a Sci-Fi/Thriller from cult film director, Wes Craven. It plays out like an extended episode of the classic series ‘Tales From The Darkside’. The vibe of the film comes off like a 70s Made-For-TV film.

It has a little graphic violence that Wes is famous for. The first hour of the film is a somewhat slow burn and picks up in the last 20 minutes. It has a good number of well known recognizable actors who became famous later on in film/TV.

It leaves off for a potential sequel which never was made.

Synopsis

A film about a teenage genius who implants a robot's computer chip into the brain of his neighbor after she is declared brain dead, turning her into a psychopathic killer.

RadioActive Soldiers - The Oppenheimer Aftermath
2023

8/10

I watched this last night clearing out my tubi list of stuff saved. I had been sitting on it for over a year.

It’s a one hour documentary discussing the Atomic/Hydrogen bomb tests the U.S. conducted from the late 1940s to early 1960s. It discusses how U.S. military personnel were used as guinea pigs by the Government to control the tests.

Testimony is given from actual service men who were part of the test. What’s interesting is it covers the tests in Nevada, the Bikini Islands and the test conducted in Space. Service men discuss how they were Forced to conduct the tests along with the aftermath of how the tests affected them when they left the service.

The film discusses the service men from the ARMY, NAVY and Air Force. Recent unclassified footage of tests are shown. Majority of the footage is familiar bring it has been seen in prior documentaries and other projects, but there is a lot of new unseen footage that you have never seen. I was impressed on what was shown.

The last 15 minutes shows actual military training films used to show troops. Also actual Civil PSA films on Atomic Bomb testing is shown in full that were made for the general population.

It’s an interesting documentary and it will keep your eyes glued to the screen from start to end.

Synopsis

Soldiers who survived the first nuclear bomb tests share their horrific stories and reveal how the military deceived them into thinking that being exposed to these bombs would not have lasting effects.
