Game of Thrones is finally getting a sequel series, set after the events of the highly-controversial final season. While its last couple of seasons have been widely criticized, there's no taking away that Game of Thrones delivered some of the absolute greatest television ever. There's still a clear appetite for more Game of Thrones content, and HBO has so far met that demand through prequel series.

House of the Dragon has proven to be a relatively successful prequel to Game of Thrones, detailing the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Soon, another Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will make its debut as well. But while Game of Thrones fans no doubt appreciate these exciting prequel series, there are many who would prefer to see something set after the conclusion of the original show. Luckily for them, a sequel series has finally been confirmed.

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Game of Thrones is getting a sequel series. The spin-off will reportedly center on Arya Stark, and is supposedly coming as a replacement for the Jon Snow-centered series that was previously planned but has now been scrapped. According to the report, Quoc Dang Tran has signed on to write the Arya Stark series, but no one has actually been cast just yet. Maisie Williams hasn't even been locked down to reprise her role as Arya, leaving the door open to a potential recast, though such a move would likely upset fans.

Spoilers for Game of Thrones

Considering where Arya ended up at the end of Game of Thrones, it makes sense to do a sequel series focused on her character, as it frees HBO from having to bring back basically anyone else that made up the ensemble cast in the previous show. For those that may not remember, after killing the Night King and successfully avenging her various family members that were killed off during the course of the show, Arya set off on an adventure of her own to see what was "west of Westeros." Assuming this plotline is followed, it would likely mean that Arya is exploring a new continent, opening the door for entirely brand-new characters, concepts, and lore that has never been featured in the show before.

Of course, the Arya show could be about something completely different. Maybe it's about Arya returning to Westeros after her adventures, though that would be difficult to pull off since many of the other Game of Thrones cast members that survived the events of the finale are plenty busy with other projects at this point.

Regardless, it will likely be years before the Arya spin-off gets any real traction. For now, Game of Thrones fans can look forward to the premiere of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on January 18 and the third season of House of the Dragon in the summer.
