The Housemaid

PRAISE: I appreciate when a movie like this does its best to avoid cliches particularly that of the sexy new housekeeper or nanny being a devious seductress who slowly but surely pushes the wife out and takes the husband.....well this movie does a little bit of that .....and its fun. First off the cast has fun with their roles the full runtime of the movie including .Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway
Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester,Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester,Elizabeth Perkins as Evelyn.Director Paul Feig has been a master for the most part of directing actresses and he does a great job here. Its the small doses of several things that made this work for me for the most part. Manic insanity, campiness, dark humor, some originality, borrowing a bit from movies like Sleeping With The Enemy and Diabolique. I found myself smiling throughout.

PROBLEMS: The acting stalls in a few scenes especially from Sweeney who's reactions should have been far better to crazy twists. There are a couple of things two characters decide to do and it didn't have logic or reason to it because of who they knew well and what the price would be. Definitely a few on the nose predictable turns.

A Face in the Crowd
1957

8.5/10

A story about this film had popped up in my Google recommendations a few months ago and I watched it this morning at home on tubi.

My interest came because it’s been noted that it’s a pre-cursor to President Trump and his rise to the Oval Office.

The main character is introduced as a nobody and is seen slowly rising in popularity as a local celebrity talking shit that everyday people want to hear. From there his rise continues onto big city television becoming a ‘Reality Star’. And from there he proceeds to becoming a national celebrity icon.

During his rise he uses Black people to aid him which is interesting being the film starts out and takes place during Jim Crow era Tennessee. And he gets White folks to support him when he does it. This part of the film does a good job showing his manipulation skills.

The main character has a ‘Epstein’ moment. Nothing graphic is shown.

It’s a 2 hour film and the above I stated takes place in the first hour. From there the film focuses on the main characters stardom and proceeds when he is added in as a consultant for a U.S. Senator running for POTUS who is a Right-Wing Conservative. When he is advising the Senator on how to appeal to the people, you can easily picture him running for POTUS. I suspect the producers/writers thought it was too much of a stretch to have him run for POTUS….if they only knew.

His character slowly realizes the power he has and what he can achieve behind the scenes if the Senator wins the election.

Success of his show and his political aspirations eventually gets to his head. I’m not gonna spoil what leads to his downfall, but what brings him down could possibly bring Trump down if someone had the balls and courage to take the initiative too do it.

Walter Matthau’s final scene will have you definitely going ‘Oh Snap’. It’s the highlight of the whole film and fits in perfectly with Trump.

Andy Griffith plays the main character. He does an outstanding job and his portrayal is completely different from what you maybe used to seeing of him as tv icon ‘Andy Griffith Show’ and ‘Matlock’. There are a few cameos of real life people from Hollywood/News Media of the era playing themselves.

Overall, this film played out better than what I was expecting. It should go into cult classic status once Trump is out of the picture permanently. I recommend watching it, you won’t be disappointed.

tubi has a clean, HD remastered version.

'Creep 3' Status Gets Revealed Amid Cancellation Concerns (Exclusive)

Creep director Patrick Brice has a promising update about a third movie in the franchise.

By Lauren Rouse
October 02, 2025

The Creep franchise creators, filmmaker Patrick Brice and star Mark Duplass, have confirmed the development status of Creep 3 amid concern from the fanbase that the movie may have been cancelled.

The found-footage horror franchise began in 2014 with Creep, which Brice directed and starred in as Aaron, the target of Duplass' serial killer. The franchise has since released a sequel in 2017's Creep 2 and expanded into television with a series on Shudder titled The Creep Tapes.

A third Creep has been said to be in development since the release of Creep 2. However, the release of The Creep Tapes seems to have slowed momentum on a potential third movie. Speaking to The Direct at Fantastic Fest 2025 about Season 2 of The Creep Tapes, Duplass and Brice confirmed that "we will make a Creep 3," despite there now being at least 8 years between film installments.

Brice added that their intention is for the third film to be the closing of a chapter, describing his vision for Creep 3 as "a defining...end of a sentence" and "something that closes things up:"

Brice: "We will make a 'Creep 3.' But we want 'Creep 3' to kind of be a defining, sort of, end of a sentence... Like, it should be something that closes things up."

Duplass (who fans may also know from his role in The Morning Show) also admitted that Creep 2's success contributed to the delay in making Creep 3, as both he and Brice were "a little paralyzed" by the sequel's impact. The duo only wanted to proceed with a third film if they believed "it could match or in some ways supersede that:"

Duplass: "And I think Patrick and I were a little paralyzed after we made 'Creep 2' to make 'Creep 3'. They were so successful. And when I say successful, I mean the core fans loved them so much. We really didn't want to make anything unless we felt like it could match, or in some ways supersede that, you know?"

The inherent design of the Creep franchise is ongoing, following the core serial killer (nicknamed Peachfuzz) and his many victims over the years. The Creep Tapes allowed for even more of Peachfuzz's sinister actions, with each episode exploring a different victim.

Duplass said The Creep Tapes allowed them more freedom to make "a bunch of weird EPs" rather than giving in to the pressure of "the double album."

Duplass: "So there's something about making 'The Creep Tapes' that freed us up a little bit to just be like, ‘Well, we're not gonna make the double album. We're gonna make a bunch of weird EPs,’ you know.? And that got really fun."

Speaking about the upcoming second season of The Creep Tapes at the festival (which opened with the chimpanzee film Primate), Duplass said that the television show allows for "more chaos" than in the movies, encouraging the creatives to "strike out more daringly" in each episode.

Duplass: “I would say, formalistically, there's more chaos involved in the television show than in the movies, because when you're trying to wrangle something that's about 30 minutes, it allows you to strike out more daringly, and you can make a lot of different stories, and different types of stories work in that format, which is really good."

The Creep Tapes is produced and written by Brice and Duplass, with the former directing each episode and the latter reprising his role as Peachfuzz. Some guest stars in Season 1 (released in November 2024) included Josh Ruben, Krisha Fairchild, and Mike Luciano. Season 2 of The Creep Tapes will debut on Shudder and AMC+ on November 14, 2025.

What Can Fans Expect From a Creep 3 Movie?

Duplass and Brice's recent comments about Creep 3 reiterate that the duo intends to make a third film eventually and that The Creep Tapes was part of their process in getting to a creative point where they could make a Creep trilogy.

It seems that when Creep 3 eventually releases, it may be a trilogy capper, with the film designed to be a conclusion to the franchise, as Brice hinted—or at least a conclusion for Duplass' killer (the baton could still be passed to a new killer in the franchise, if it were to continue).

There is still no indication of when Creep 3 may happen. The Creep Tapes was renewed for a third season at Shudder ahead of Season 2's debut, meaning Duplass and Brice will likely be held up working another season before they can start on the third movie. The silver lining is that when Creep 3 does arrive, both Brice and Duplass have big things intended for it, making it worth the wait for fans.

Frankenstein
2025

6.5/10

I watched this film this afternoon at home.

It’s basically another reimagining of the classic Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’

Not going to get it being everyone is familiar with the story. This film compared to prior versions stands out mainly due to its cinematography and VFX/SFX. The monster is shown differently than prior versions with superhuman strength and basically being immortal.

The subject of having a ‘Bride’ for the creature came up, I will assume that will be what the sequel will be about if Netflix approves it. Guillermo Del Toro has been making hits on Netflix, so good chance it will happen at some point.

It’s an entertaining film, nothing special.

Synopsis

A brilliant but egotistical scientist brings a monstrous creature to life in a daring experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
2025

7/10

Me and my sons watched this film this evening at home on Paramount+.

Not gonna go too much into it being I’m probably the last person on the forum who has seen it. I already went through the earlier films in the franchise and reviewed them earlier in this thread.

The film is a continuation of the last film and picks up after the events in that film. Being this is the official last film of the franchise, it connects a number of events from past films and brings back some characters from the prior films.

The main plot dealing with a super advanced AI that becomes a sentient being and makes a decision on eliminating the human race, unfortunately that part basically copies ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron”. I was expecting something a little different with the AI and what its ultimate goal would be.

The film did a decent job with the suspense with Cruise going into the submarine. That sequence was definitely ‘Hollywood’ cuz no human being could have accomplished what Cruise did in that scenario.

The film left it open on what Cruise does with the AI. Paramount stated this film officially ends Cruise’s run in the franchise. There is a good chance when they reboot the franchise with new characters, Cruise will most likely return and we will get a answer on what he did with the AI, or the AI returns in a future project.

Overall, it was a entertaining film, basically ‘Mindless Entertainment’

Synopsis

Ethan and the IMF face the Entity, a rogue AI capable of ending the world by seizing global mainframes. How far will Ethan go to stop it?

Anaconda 2025

When Jack Black and Paul Rudd announced they were making a movie based on the 1997 Anaconda movie i smiled because I thought it would be a great spoof and parody of the first movie. What i got was a mixed bag of ideas that only worked here and there.Everyone in the cast seemed game but definitely run out of steam here and there in the movie. I will admit I laughed more than a few times at the antics of the characters, the music that accompanied some scenes and some crazy visuals. But when this movie stalls it stalls big time with some drawn out painfully unfunny moments. Thandie Newton looks cute but it seems like her character is just there to be a yes person. Steve Zahn had a couple of good moments. Rudd and Black are there usual selves but Black definitely pulled back from his usual manic persona. It was great to see Ione Skye in a movie again.
The subplot in the movie was very weak. When the movie enters its last act something happens that should have been written into the movie from the start that can also be said of what happens in the movies post credit scenes. Anyone going in thinking they will get a Mad Magazine or Wayans Brothers like spoof will be extremely dissapointted like me.

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?
1962

8/10

I watched this cult classic flick earlier this afternoon at home. I recall watching it back in the early 80s while staying at my grandparents house and watching it with them. I stumbled upon it while searching tubi and decided to rewatch it cuz I had forgotten what happened.

The film stars two Big name, A-List Hollywood legends from the 30s/40swho were basically kicked to the curb by Hollywood in the 1960s. Bette Davis and Joan Crawford were big competitors during their era and they were perfectly cast for this film.

The film starts out in 1917 showing the women as girls during the vaudeville years and giving insight on both of their personalities and showing Betty Davis (Baby Jane) at the height of her career. It then time jumps to 1935 where Baby Jane’s career falls off and her sister Joan Crawford (Blanche) starts to rise.

Then the film jumps to ‘Current’ day 1962 with both of them living together and when all hell breaks out between them now that both of their careers have tanked.

The film is mainly a psychological/horror thriller with minimal horror. It plays like an extended episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’.

Both actresses give a great performance. Bette stands out doing ‘Bat Shit Crazy’. Their looks/costumes add to their characters with Bette’s hair/makeup looking outlandish with her looking like ‘The Joker’ and wearing light colored dresses. Joan with her natural Black hair, her makeup is done to highlight it along with her wearing dark colors. The film being shot in B/W enhances the visuals of their characters.

Betty Davis’ real life daughter co-stars as a teenage neighbor, she is a cutie.

Overall, it’s a interesting film, because of censorship standards of the day, the film couldn’t go hardcore like if it was made today with language and violence.

Synopsis

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? is a 1962 American psychological horror thriller film directed and produced by Robert Aldrich, and starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, and featuring Victor Buono in his major film debut.

The Black Hole
1979

4/10

I had last seen this flick back in the late 80s on VHS. I rewatched it this afternoon with one of my sons on Disney+.

This was Disney’s first entry into making a big budget film that was completely different from what they had been historically been putting out. The VFX/SFX wasn’t anything impressive when it was released. It looks dated and cheap especially with what Lucas and Paramount did with Star Trek.

It also was Disney first step in making more adult content from what it historically had done prior.

It’s a dark Sci-Fi drama. Nothing original with the premise. VFX/SFX definitely looks cheap and dated. The story is interesting and keeps you interested from start to finish.

It’s a somewhat cult classic in the Sci-Fi genre.

Synopsis

In the future, a spaceship dubbed the USS Palomino is on its way back to Earth when it discovers another ship that had been assumed missing, the USS Cygnus. Kate McCrae (Yvette Mimieux), a scientist aboard the Palomino, learns that it's the same ship upon which her father had served as a crew member. When the Palomino's crew boards the Cygnus, they are met by Dr. Reindhardt (Maximilian Schell) and a bizarre, faceless army who plan to be the first people ever to explore a black hole.

Ol' Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys
2024

6/10

I watched this documentary tonight at home on Hulu.

It focuses on Dirty’s rise starting with the Wu-Tang, his immediate rise to success and ends with his downfall which led to his death.

A few members of the Wu-Tang give their insights on him along with his ex-wife and members of his family.

What I learned was that there was a young Jewish guy working along Damon Dash when Dirty got out of prison and signed with RocaFella Records. He contributed to his downfall.

There is a number of unseen footage throughout that I have not seen in other documentaries on Wu-Tang.

If you are a fan of the Ol’ Dirty Bastard, you will enjoy this documentary.

Synopsis

Never-before-seen footage and interviews with family, friends and colleagues provide insight into the life and career of hip-hop icon Ol' Dirty Bastard.

Pearl
2022

6.5/10

I had recently watched ‘Frankenstein’ on Netflix and Mia Goth caught my attention. I looked her up on my cable box and saw she was involved with this film and ‘X’ and ‘Maxxxine’. I had been interested in X prior and saw that all 3 films are part of a trilogy. Instead of watching them by release date, I decided to watch in order of timeline and I started with this film which is considered a prequel for the trilogy. I watched it last night at home on HBO MAX.

The film mainly focuses on Pearl who is married and her husband is over in Europe for WW2. She is stuck at her family farm helping to take care of her invalid father and living under her mother’s strict rule.

She has dreams of being a big star. The film focuses immediately on her level of violence.

It’s mainly a psychological, character thriller until the end when we it’s seen showing Pearl eventually crossing the line on being a hardcore murderer. It’s filmed like an upbeat film from the 40s/50s and has similarities in how it’s presented like ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Gone With The Wind’.

Mia Goth, who produced and co-wrote the script, does a good job of ‘Bat Shit Crazy’. The closing credits scene shows her perfectly showing the character being completely out of her mind.

As a standalone film, it comes off as a knockoff version of ‘Psycho’ with a female lead. I suspect it will take on a different perspective when I watch the other 2 films here soon.

Looking forward to them.:16:

Synopsis

Trapped on an isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the watch of her mother. Lusting for the glamorous life she's seen in movies, Pearl's temptations and repressions collide.
