Amazon says an issue which affected its cloud computing services unit AWS is now “fully mitigated” after being hit by an outage which disrupted several popular websites and apps across the world including Snapchat, Facebook and Fortnite.

• A rapidly growing list of sites experienced issues, according to Downdetector, which tracks internet disruptions. Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase and AI firm Perplexity also reported disruption

We’ve heard today from a tech expert who told us that Amazon Web Services “sits in the middle of everything.”

Lance Ulanoff, editor at the technology publication TechRadar told John Berman on CNN News Central that AWS provides a space where businesses can essentially rent the services they depend on to operate, rather than building and maintaining those services internally, which is far more costly. “It’s like: ‘Why build the house if you’re just going to live in it?’” Ulanoff said.

Ulanoff explained that smart home devices, used by millions globally to do everything from monitor who is approaching their property to turning lights on and off, are not designed to work without the internet, despite how widely relied upon they have become.

Amazon Web Services went down earlier today, and while a fix has been deployed, there are still huge outages felt across hundreds of internet services — chiefly Wordle as of right now.

Collectively, reports on Downdetector have reached huge heights at roughly 50,000 reports — all kicking off at 7:50am.

While the Amazon mobile app itself going down is one thing, Amazon Web Services is the crucial one here. It's the backbone of a lot of the internet, and the likes of Snapchat, Venmo, Ring, Pokémon GO and more are also down because of it.

We're following this outage live, getting information on what's happened and trying to pursue detail on when a fix could be put in place. Despite the company's best efforts, fixed deployed so far haven't helped.

For those who aren't in the know, Life360 is a location-sharing app that families and friends use in close circles to see each other's live locations on a private map. This is good for establishing designated meeting points, and giving people an SOS button for emergencies, while also ensuring people get home safe.

This service (unfortunately) is on AWS, and the app is down for a lot of people. For those who are just looking after their loved ones, this is incredibly problematic.

youtube uses it.... I'm wondering if it was the first signs impending of the amazon outage.... or someone fucking with it on youtube to see what damage could be done

Is it me or is this starting to occur more frequently? Im starting to believe these events are more serious than a minor issue. Like, potentially infrastructures are being attacked/targeted by foreign threats.

This should not be surprising, pretty major system exploits, foreign government espionage and coordinated hacking campaigns have been revealed /exposed from right before CoVid started up until a few weeks ago.

China has been caught with hardware, sorftware and over the air hacks of many US companies.
The 3 major wireless telecomms, the top 3 US ISPs, FAANG data centers, utility companies....

We can't pay China the billions/trillions in debt owed, they've gotten creative in their new ways to collect.
