A Pennsylvania man is accused of fatally shooting a woman and her husband and throwing their 1-year-old baby into a pond because the woman wouldn’t leave her husband for him. Jose Luis Rodriguez, 61, is charged with four counts of murder, firearms not to be carried without license, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse and possessing an instrument of crime with intent, according to court records.
Rodriguez is accused of killing Junior Cabrera-Colon, Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo and their 1-year-old son Jeydon Junior Peguero, McClatchy News previously reported. Now, officials are giving insight as to what they say was Rodriguez’s motive in the killings. Rodriguez told authorities he planned to kill Peguero-Mancebo because she refused to leave her husband, WPVI reported. “The defendant indicated to detectives that he was infuriated because he said that Geraldina was taking his money and he admitted that he shot Geraldina in the back of the head,” District Attorney John Adams told the news outlet. Authorities say Rodriguez fatally shot Peguero-Mancebo, then threw Jeydon into a pond on Sept. 12, WFMZ reported. “Jayden was alive when he threw him face down in the muddy water,” Adams told the outlet. Officials say one day after, Rodriguez met with Cabera-Colon, fatally shot him and dumped his body at a park, WPVI reported. Cabera-Colon’s body was found around 6:30 a.m. that day, the Reading Police Department said in a Sept. 23 news release. Peguero-Mancebo and Jeydon had been reported missing. On Sept. 19, Peguero-Mancebo’s body was found in a grassy field in Berks County. The next day, Jeydon’s body was found “partially submerged in a marshy area,” a Sept. 23 news release from Berks County officials said. “How can you kill a 1-year-old baby, a baby that you used to carry, that you used to play with him?” relative Heinel Medrano Mancebo told WFMZ. “How do you have the heart?”
The couple leaves behind three other children, who are 8, 10 and 13 years old, according to a GoFundMe page. Reading is about a 65-mile drive northwest from Philadelphia.
