Standup special so bad that the comedian floats considering suicide afterwards?

When Netflix designates a performance as the one that they are recording for a special, is that locked in? I wonder if this will end up streaming.

Stand-up is like boxing when you're bad and unskilled at it, there is nowhere to hide: it's all on you. You will get knocked the fuk out, or in a comedy sense, boo'd the fuk off the stage. On that note, shout to the Apollo's Sandman: he served a cultural purpose.

Taping a standup special is different than doing a regular show. The pressure is on because the comedian is burning (Netflix) money trying to get it right instead of getting paid to show up and tell jokes. Also for specials comedians usually tape more than one performance and edit the best parts, this performance is obviously the dud of the lot.

I’m sure it’ll still release highly edited and do numbers. He has a significant following of die hard fans.

Accurate. They’ve blurred the lines of comedy and ruined it. Guys go viral THEN become stand-ups. Dudes make videos in their living room and suddenly “on tour” selling more tickets than actual comedians. People send me viral videos of Druski and others and tell me they can’t wait to see them “perform”. Perform WHAT? You can reshoot and edit and video, live onstage is NOOOOOT the same.

Yeah, D.C. Young Fly talked about how he had to pay his dues in comedy stand-up on-stage, because he was only a viral comedy doing skits and he was getting all these stand-up gigs. He said that he had to learn the craft of stand-up which was totally different than being social media funny.

Godfrey said it best. Your years in stand-up is your age...as in 7 yrs of stand-up you're a 7 yr old

Yeah but he got a second Netflix special not to mention a comedy half hour. Just the fact that he got that much is The clearest example of white privilege

Man, I barely who know the guy is, I saw 15 minutes of an interview he did with someone on youtube. I'm outta the loop on him... :dunno:

Comedy and stand up different sides of the coin. By rhe way Godfrey was rejected by SNL
Homie, read the connotation on how I used "comedy" just now. By the conversation with godofwine and me, the connotation is that we're both talking about stand-up comedy.
