RIP. He was a very good judge. He had a way with people. Firm, but kind.
I remember one episode where a Black woman was caught speeding with her 4-year-old daughter in the car. He had the girl come up and sit with him and hold the gavel. The girl said she wanted to be a judge. (The whole courtroom - including him - cracked up when she said that.) He had her strike the gavel and pronounce her mother guilty, but the judge let her off real easy, and he told her, "This is why you should be careful. She's a smart girl. You want to see her grow up." He was very kind to the mother.
