TSA Checking IDs at boarding gate?

The other week, I was flying back to Texas from out of state. TSA agents were checking IDs of everyone at the gate right before the gate agent would scan our boarding pass.

Made me wonder if this was an attempt to catch Texas Democratic Reps that fled the state?

Never seen that before. Wasn’t happening at any other gates (from what I could see).

Anyone got any insight?

Think it's to cut down on people with fake boarding passes or something like that.

Who knows....

Thanks for the responses! Definitely seemed like they were searching for someone. I didn’t have time to ask (that’s if they would’ve even answered).

This happened to me also I was in FLL or Mia heading back to IND we were standing in line at the gate and they made us all remove ourselves so they could set up a table or boundary to check IDs as we got on. It was actual security there with weapons along with TSA.

Also when I was returning from Cartagena to MIA DEA was waiting as we exited for someone I kept trying to see who they nabbed but I had to move with the traffic to get through customs and board my flight home.
