Movie Debate: Why are modern movies so bad?

^^^^

The Kaboom : the next generation

Movies that are released FIRST in theaters before being dropped on streaming overwhelmingly do better on streaming.

The streaming doesn't cost much thing aint REALLY true if you see how much Amazon Netflix and Paramount are dropping on these movies and series.
Yep and Amazon and Netflix are starting to drop movies in the theater also lol; so is apple! so all im saying is why would they cut out the theater money when its essentially free money...

There will always be pirates; movies dont have to stay in the theater that long for it not to hit streaming; movies are controlled by executives; and these execs make the decisions on what is streaming and whats not and for how long etc etc; Lilo and Stich, just like any other movie, was pirated; and that didnt stop it from making a billion plus at the box office!! Pirating aint stopping a movie from making money!!
I think what I said went over your head.. you keep naming big movies.. many movies aren’t billion dollar movies.. most movies are tens of millions to a few hundred.. can you name a theatre that has 100 rooms? How many movies come out in a yr? From Jan 1 to Jan 1 there will be blockbusters, decent selling movies, and flops.. how the audience reacts as well as promotions , word of mouth , etc will determine on how it sales.. if your theatre has only 10 rooms and Superman came out Jan 1 would you keep it in your theatre for a whole yr? Knowing a bunch of other movies like lilo and stitch, fantastic four, how to train your dragon, Minecraft, Jurassic park, etc coming out through the yr? You have to move the movie out eventually cause your bottom line depends on it, you need continue asses in the seat all yr long.. so keeping movies at the theatres for long periods of time dosent make sense for theatres

Bro, pirates arent stopping movies from making money at the theater, thats the point; just like Direct TV still made money regardless of how many people use those cracked cards lol; some movies will make more than others; for various different reasons; aint the end of the day, success of a movie at the theaters will not be determine by pirating...

I mean there was Squid Games which wasn' a known IP. and even more recently K-Pop Demon Hunters, while not quite unique, it wasn’t an established IP either. From, YellowJackets, Atlanta...... those were unique/ originals.

There are still plenty of series and movies to be made that are good / great and will capture an audience/ following.

But studios / platforms have to be willing to give them a chance.

What I tend to notice though, even with some of the shows I mentioned earlier, the shows start out great. Hell add Lost or Prison Break and the Following..... and by the 3rd/4th season they've jumped the shark or gotten so far away from the original premise.

Or.....

There's such a long break between seasons that the audience forgets about it and moves on/ creators decide to move on.

I gotta look over my favorites list but there are a handful of shows that debuted between late 2023 to mid 2024 and won't have a new season until "2026"...... why?!!

You get a show like Fallout, (I know not a unique property, but new to Series TV), the studio invest tens of millions in advertising, the show is a success and you don't start filming the new season until a year after its release?!! Season 1 debute: April 2024, season 2 debute: December 2025 that's 19 months!!!

Actors today know studios are fickle (and CHEAP), they've gotta eat or feed families so now you're going to run into "scheduling conflicts" or etc, because they can't wait 6 months for a studio to renew a series. Or for "at risk" actors there could be health or legal ussues that complicate things.....

I mention nothing about pirating in what I said.. I mentioned about why movies won’t stay in theatres for long periods of time.. why 8 months to a yr in theatre won’t work in modern times.. I didn’t even mention nothing about pirating.. I was pointing out another factor of why movies wouldn’t stay in theatres for longer periods of time.. pirating is a whole diff subject but adds on to the factor.. if a movie is shit and the fans think it’s shit, whether you can stream within a yr or 2 nobody gonna pay to see that garbage..no theatre gonna let a movie that ain’t moving stay at the theatre… look at a theatre like a supermarket shelf.. I’m not holding items that ain’t moving

Oh im not saying movies shouldnt be made for certain demographics; of course they should! And just because the movie is entertaining those demographics, doesnt mean the movie isnt good!! im not saying Lilo and Stich wasnt good; im just saying i dont know how that shit made a billion :giggle:

Bro... that kids and family money?

You just don't understand.

My youngest and her little cousins told me 6 months before all this...

"Daddy? Uncle Playa? We NEED to see Lion King Moana Lilo Stitch Minecraft Elio. Because we can't see that other stuff you like with the guns and unalive."

Its bad for our development.

Wtf am I supposed to say after that?

Kaboom Rebirth

This is all gonna be a huge clusterf*ck soon.
Well im not sure if its a cluster fuck! I just think they, hollywood, need to do a better jobs with movies; they put out shit movies, they put movies in different time slots that they shouldnt, they dont promote well, they dont know how to promote well, etc etc; movies can make it at the box office they just have to do a better job of helping the movie to make it; Denzel told Micheal B why would someone pay to see you when they can see you for free!! A lot of actors need to adhere to that advice; a lot of movie people need to adhere to that advice...

Don't f**k with Blackbeard, Day... im telling you. Ain't no winning. He UNDERSTANDS that specific demographic way too well.

Oh i understand but there are a lot of kids movies that dont make a billy lol; hell, theres only been one billion movie this whole year lol; and it was LILO lol; so again bro how the fuck did that movie make a billy :giggle: :giggle:

You talking to the damn pirate king! Leave that man alone!

Look you are right I get it. AND NOTHING I'M ABOUT TO SAY YOU DONT KNOW ALREADY but I got dip sh*ts lately jumping in our discussions so apparently I have to go kindergarten...

we have to always understand there are segments of society that we are not familiar with or don't account for that that can more significance and influence than we realize. On all things.

Piracy is not hard but its not easy.

It isn't as easy convenient or accessible as the "proper" way but it can be major assistance in an increasingly expensive society

And morally most won't do it because its wrong its stealing its illegal and it really hurts the industry overall.

But these SAME corporations OVER CHARGE for the same servie or less, constantly raise proces while reducing quality, content access and employee salaries.

So I get both sides

I don't really pirate heavy because its just not convenient for my household. I dont judge those who do.

But I'm also cutting down streaming services. And once summer is over I'm cutting my monthly movie pass and going to only select movies and use my hookups if needed.

I also predict corporations and ISPs are going to start to Crack down super heavy on piracy overall the next few years as more mergers happen.

Something most people don’t understand.. the lack of knowledge some people have.. all Americans with internet access does not know all the great sites for piracy, some demographics know none to little.. if this information was given to all , more people might come over to the free side.. lots of people are unaware that the lack of knowledge to some of this information is also keeping certain money flow alive.. humans love a deal and if it is presented more to the consumer people would be surprised on how many more will take them… as a person who has shared this knowledge to the naive u’ll be surprised how many more have come over to this side

Fam i feel ya! Im not against pirating at all; these corporations aint shit and they overcharge on everything; Hell, Direct TV(which is the first form streaming by the way, different topic lol) I had and used those cracked cards; had white friends that would crack and program for me!! I had all the channels and love that shit!! From Limewire to the Torrents to BGOL I use for music so I aint never gonna talk down on pirates!! I dont pirate movies because I just dont care to; I like going to see certain movies and i have disney plus and max; i dont have netflix but I could use someones if needed; and my friend just let me get his password for paramount plus; so im good on that end; Im just saying that aint stopping the movies from making major money at the box office!!

well give me the pirate shit for streaming and movies; I will still go to the movies for Marvel Studios and certain other ones; but the movies I dont go to well I will try to see if the pirates make sense lol...

You argued against Blackbeard and now you want some of his treasure.. I thought you said pirating dosent matter an hour ago.. now you want me gold

I didnt argue against Blackbeard; Again you are the one confusing what was said; The point of the conversation was the movie business as it relates to the box office; and why movies are bad and content is bad in general; the conversation was not against pirating...

That what I been saying bars

The trailer made sure the movie would be garbage...

there is a large contingent of people who believe you shouldn't but steak sauce on a steak either.

Funny I realized that after I posted because I went into the ketchup thread right afterwards lol lol

funny hthing it STILL works. I think a BETTER theatre eperience would also improve the audience MOOD.

Cut off all the commercials for over 30 minutes. Keep food high quality. Watch the prices.

And I think people would begging to APPROCH the entire movie going experience better.

It’s expensive to go to the movies! It shouldn’t be more than $10 per ticket period; no matter day or time ! How many more people would go to the movies if the prices were just $10 a piece? Or how about do something like for every ticket one buy you get something free like popcorn or candy or a drink….

movies are just so dilluted with all these streaming apps. so much that a lot of good movies slip under the radar. then it might be 2-3 movies a year that might make us think about going to the theater. streaming with a nice home setup is just better a lot of the time

There are several things wrong with movies now a days. One is that they're rehashing way too many old movies. I know that they do this because of comfort.

Hollywood has a formula that is outdated, and they're sticking to it. They don't even want to consider that there are writers out here who are not white or Jewish.

I'm willing to bet that if we take five members from BGOL and task them with writing a good movie script, we'll be able to come up with several.

Me and playa been talking about this subject for yrsss.. I literally answered the question in my first response.. it’s cause they rather sell you a trailer than sell you a good movie.. if I can make shit chicken but market it like it taste good and people will buy it why would I care to put my foot in and make it taste great.. they don’t give a fuck about the marinade, the seasoning, the prep, the customer satisfaction.. if you buying it and keep returning cause you’re easily fooled than I’m gonna keep selling you shit chicken.. this is how Hollywood feels.. been saying this for yrssss .. I’m talking about going back to like the second transformers days and maybe even further.. they made billions off of shitty movies with good to great trailers.. playa know I been saying it for yrs…. This is 1 of the reasons i pirate.. no need to buy the shitty chicken when it’s available for free… now as far as why the money is going down well it goes back to some people are starting to wake up and not buy the shitty chicken

makes sense!! now pass the sites please...

Has the art form of movie making gotten lazy or is the show business not willing take more risk to invest in content that might be atypical?
Reminder — Movies is global. Hollywood is local. Artistry has never been the interest of Hollywood movie industry. We’ve gotten some significant but very brief moments where the artist/ry (what you are calling RISK) was seen as worthy of investment and lo and behold… showed out as profitable!!

The biggest of course was the first film school wave - Coppola Lucas (mid60s-70s blockbuster shift) etc and that second wave includes Spike and Singleton but it’s predominantly the indie Sundance films and Miramax (pretty much the 90s)

And BOTH of those moments were part of much bigger global (worldwide) and local (USA) social/political cultural movements eg antiwar/anti colonial/anti racist, war of drugs, reganomics, anti pop/mtv pop explosion etc etc

Nothing happens in a vacuum and we all know we’re in a shitty time rn globally and locally

As tired old shit is falling the fuck out and apart… brand new days dawning within and all around us.

Personally I try to balance best I can being available to the New and harvesting the truly good/truly enjoyable from the past with fresh eyes.

playa rightfully shouting out the kids… and I can say I enjoy the same experience — their joy is real. And that shit is always going to keep me balancing my most critical perspectives with my most hope-full celebratory.

For ex. just today I saw a (5.5-6/10max imo) flawed af but fresh in significant and inspiring ways flick
called — SHE RIDES SHOTGUN.

Haha. Like that Justin Hunte/ The COMPANY MAN rap and bs nigga tag —
It’s ALL Happening lmao
*updated*

BOTH. Neither.

Fantastic Four is a beautifully executed superhero movie. Even with Nolan being can't miss? Oppenheimer and Odyssey are RISKS.

Sinners was a BIG risk.

They wiling to take some risks. And their ability to take THOSE risks is form the profit from the big budget franchise stuff.

And I would ADD this.

We are not good movie fans anymore.

People go to the movie expecting only the movie they have created in their own head.

Everyone is a film critic and an expert.

People watch a movie to find what they hate not what they love.

People go into a movie considering the BUDGET and the MARKETING as a barometer of how good or bad it is.

It's funny, but do you realize every movie you mentioned in this post was either a remake, sequel or adaptation?

That's why modern movies are so bad.
