I mean there was Squid Games which wasn' a known IP. and even more recently K-Pop Demon Hunters, while not quite unique, it wasn’t an established IP either. From, YellowJackets, Atlanta...... those were unique/ originals.
There are still plenty of series and movies to be made that are good / great and will capture an audience/ following.
But studios / platforms have to be willing to give them a chance.
What I tend to notice though, even with some of the shows I mentioned earlier, the shows start out great. Hell add Lost or Prison Break and the Following..... and by the 3rd/4th season they've jumped the shark or gotten so far away from the original premise.
Or.....
There's such a long break between seasons that the audience forgets about it and moves on/ creators decide to move on.
I gotta look over my favorites list but there are a handful of shows that debuted between late 2023 to mid 2024 and won't have a new season until "2026"...... why?!!
You get a show like Fallout, (I know not a unique property, but new to Series TV), the studio invest tens of millions in advertising, the show is a success and you don't start filming the new season until a year after its release?!! Season 1 debute: April 2024, season 2 debute: December 2025 that's 19 months!!!
Actors today know studios are fickle (and CHEAP), they've gotta eat or feed families so now you're going to run into "scheduling conflicts" or etc, because they can't wait 6 months for a studio to renew a series. Or for "at risk" actors there could be health or legal ussues that complicate things.....
