Hollywood: Richard Dreyfuss Says Oscars Inclusion Requirements “Make Me Vomit” "I can never play a black man?!" Update: Still Wilding!

Ok him defending black face shit is on some other shit. Fucking nut job.

But, I do agree that they shouldn't have to meet requirements. All black people did was ask for a equal playing field. We didn't ask for no damn handout or no pandering. If a CAC wants to make a film with only white actors let them. Because I can't stand when a black person makes a film they have to include homosexuality just to cross off all the checkboxes.

Never understood this shit.

They forced the shit on Friends and I think Seinfiefld. I don't give a fuck if those shows have black people on it because I don't watch it anyway. They meddling into some shit.
Fuck the Oscar's and Grammy

He's correct about the minimal representation rule; it's utter bullshit.

But he, like so many other tone-deaf whiteys, doesn't understand that he can never know how badly we are treated as black people and so he should never attempt to speak for us vis-a-vis how we feel about someone in blackface.

According to the Academy’s new regulations, which will come into effect for the 2025 Oscars, films seeking best picture nominations must meet two out of four requirements.

The requirements include having at least one lead character in the movie be from an “an underrepresented racial or ethnic group”, having at least 30% of the general ensemble cast be from at least two underrepresented groups (women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ people or people with disabilities), or having the movie’s subject focus on one of those groups.

WOW!

Not understanding what they getting at.

It’s been noted for years that majority of folks who vote for the Oscars haven’t even watched what is being nominated.

It’s also been noted that the people who are sent ballot’s don’t actually represent the general public in race, age, sex, etc.

The changes need to happen behind the Oscars, not the content.

Bro it was only done so we wouldn’t appreciate, support or start our own award shows.

You are a coon. I noticed every time someone has a disagreement about race you always defend the white man or a white woman. Those white people don’t give a fuck about you.
I never defend a white man or vote for one, like you. It's you sucking Joe Biden's geriatric dick. Fuck Trump and him. This is projection like a mutha, shaming ass bitch nigga. Another dumbass being told what to think. Your post was dumb, and when someone disagrees, well um um um you a coon!

Dumb ass nigga

I'm engaging in a very poor habit right now by not reading the full context of his comments or the responses to this thread but I'll say that at quick glance (and broad familiarty with racism) the sentiments expressed here are peak CAC. How many decades, nay centuries, were non-white voices excluded from the cultural vernacular by way of deliberate policy? A lot of CAC's wanna act like that everything suddenly got even af in 1965. They are some Daydream Believers on some Monkees shit.

facts. a good film is a good film. if its about some italian family during ww2, i dont expect to see blacks randomly in the movie . same thing if we have a child from africa fighting in a war.

they should have required this for only the staff in diverse locations. They also should promote studios to hire minority directors and other staff.

But it's much more complicated than that.

They NEVER want a level playing field unless forced. And this goes for everything from education housing sports employment etc etc.

And Richard KNOWS that.
exactly. gotta read between the lines. at the end of the day, it ain't about him really caring about the integrity or the quality of the work. it's all about maintaining the status quo which benefits the likes of him. fuck him. he[s part of a dying generation which really won't be missed anyways. fuck him.

You do defend white people who talk shit about Black people. This is not a debate.

Bro it was only done so we wouldn’t appreciate, support or start our own award shows.
Yeah but they don’t show up no way. Black artists have always felt more special at the outsider award shows. They’d show up to the black award shows to get on and then never go back.

Damn, Niggaz always be on these peoples’ minds like that? The more black people try to get away from them it’s like the more they become obsessed with niggaz.

You claim you don’t like us around you but when cats stay away from you, you hate that too.

Maybe this is the same or maybe this is different but when Africans or British Black people come over here and take Black American roles would that be considered a form of Black face. If you look at Snowfall with Damson Idris he needs a dialect coach to help him with how Black folk in LA spoke in the 90s.

In recent years, “Jaws” star Richard Dreyfuss has come under fire for speaking out on subjects such as Oscar diversity requirements and the use of Blackface.

At a “Jaws” retrospective screening in Beverly, Mass. on Saturday evening, he appeared to take his inflammatory remarks even further as he ranted about subjects reported to include trans people, Barbra Streisand and women in general.

In a statement, Cabot executive director J. Casey Soward apologized for not anticipating that Dreyfuss might say provocative things on stage.

“We regret that an event that was meant to be a conversation to celebrate an iconic movie instead became a platform for political views. We take full responsibility for the oversight in not anticipating the direction of the conversation and for the discomfort it caused to many patrons,”

Soward said. “We are in active dialogue with our patrons about their experience and are committed to learning from this event how to better enact our mission of entertaining, educating and inspiring our community.”

The Cabot also sent an email to those who purchased tickets to the event according to New Bedford, Mass. radio station WBSM, and apologized for comments it characterized as “offensive and distressing.” According to WBSM, which obtained the email from a patron, it read:

“Dear Cabot Patrons,

I am writing to address an important matter concerning last night’s event with Richard Dreyfuss at The Cabot.

We deeply regret that Mr. Dreyfuss’s comments during the event were not in line with the values of inclusivity and respect that we uphold at The Cabot. We understand that his remarks were distressing and offensive to many of our community members, and for that, we sincerely apologize.
At The Cabot, we are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our community. The views expressed by Mr. Dreyfuss do not reflect our beliefs, and we do not endorse them in any way.

We take full responsibility for the oversight in not anticipating the direction of the conversation and for any discomfort it caused.

We are taking immediate steps to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. This includes more rigorous vetting of our event participants and more proactive communication strategies to keep our audience informed.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of The Cabot.

We value your feedback and are dedicated to learning from this experience to better serve our community.”

In a video an attendee posted to YouTube, Dreyfuss comes onstage to applause while a Taylor Swift song plays, wearing a dress over his clothes, which stagehands then remove before he sits down.

Facebook commenters expressed anger over his comments, characterizing them as “vile, dehumanizing, abhorrent things about trans youth, LGBTQ+ people, women and survivors of sexual violence.”

“A young family with a 10 year old daughter had to leave,” recounted another commenter. Dozens of patrons reportedly walked out of the venue.

After the screening, another video posted to YouTube. shows him talking about a book he published in 2022.

“Why don’t you tell us about your new book?” the moderator says.

“It’s called ‘One Thought Scares Me,'” Dreyfuss answers, “And it’s about how 50 years ago, without telling anyone, they took civics out of the curriculum. Which means we have no knowledge of who the hell we are.” His remarks are met with applause from the remaining moviegoers.

Dreyfuss could not immediately be reached for comment during the holiday weekend. Representatives for the Cabot did not respond to a request for comment on Monday.

Father Time has him saying everything he always wanted to say

“He played a Black man brilliantly. Am I being told that I will never have a chance to play a Black man? Is someone else being told that if they’re not Jewish, they shouldn’t play [in] ‘The Merchant of Venice’? Are we crazy?” Dreyfuss stated. “This is so patronizing. It’s so thoughtless and treating people like children.”

If you were planned on catching Richard Dreyfuss at this year's SharkCon, start preparing for next year.

The legendary actor and Jaws star issued a remorseful statement on Friday, explaining why fans wouldn't be able to catch him at the annual event held this year on Saturday and Sunday at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo in Tampa.

"Hello, fellow cons. I am very, very sorry to tell you that Ive been diagnosed with viral..." he began in a video posted to the SharkCon Instagram on Friday from a hospital bed. Off camera, his wife, Svetlana Erokhin, helpfully supplied Dreyfuss with the word he was looking for: "bronchitis."

"I've been told by my doctors I cannot fly, and I would have to fly five hours to get [to SharkCon]. I'm terribly sorry because I had planned to be there and had been looking forward to it. But I'm unable to do so. I don't want to get anyone else sick, and I don't want to get sicker myself. I feel terrible about not showing up, and I feel worse about exposing you to this, apparently, very viral illness," he explained.

In the caption, convention organizers noted that pre-paid autographs and photo-ops with Dreyfuss would be refunded within 10 business days.

Dreyfuss continued, promising "there will be other times, and I will make it my business to show up. And I want to wish you all good luck and happiness, and I want you all to feel very sorry for me, and very sorry for yourselves. I'm in a lot of pain and that has to come first, my health. I feel very good about having the time and enough health."

It was a big year at SharkCon 2025, a National Geographic-sponsored event which gathers marine biologists and other experts, scuba professionals, shark enthusiasts, vendors, and creatives whose work touches on all things shark for a weekend "dedicated to raising awareness about shark and ocean conservation," per the SharkCon website.

This being the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's landmark shark horror film, much of the convention was devoted to celebrating Jaws' milestone — for better or for worse — in the representation of the notorious marine mammals. In addition to Dreyfuss, one of the principal stars of Jaws, the convention welcomed Jeffrey Voorhees, Jonathan Searle, Steven Searle, and Carla Hogendyk (all Jaws alums), Jaws 2 actors John Dukakis and G. Thomas Dunlop, and finally John Putch, Jackie Kuntarich Cook, and Liz Smith, all of whom appeared in Jaws 3-D.

Based on the 1974 novel of the same name by Peter Benchley, Jaws follows Dreyfuss's marine biologist Matt Hooper, Roy Scheider's policeman Martin Brody, and Robert Shaw's shark hunter Quint on a quest to slay a man-hungry great white shark terrorizing a fictional New England resort town.

Jaws transformed the careers of its director and all its stars, pioneering the concept of a "summer blockbuster" and changing the way films of all kinds were marketed and released. Dreyfuss would win an Academy Award two years later for his performance in Herbert Ross' The Goodbye Girl, but Jaws remains one of his most enduringly popular films, even if he's inspired theater walkouts in the past based on his participation in such nostalgia events.
