I remember finding out several yrs ago that kid was really a girl all this time

I believe most people didn't know either.
In the film, it was always conveyed that the kid was a boy or a male child. Given that this was made in the mid 80's and gender fluidity didn't exist back then, I've read before that the producers always tried to keep the real life gender identity a secret. Well, at least from public at large since social media didn't exist back then.

funniest line of the movie [i-i-i want the knife, scratchin], which was a disappointment overall [other than the leading lady] this was peak eddie too, people were expecting more

It was stated that the child is a boy. (At the :45 sec mark).
The fact that he was actually a "she" the whole time would make this a perfect film for modern Disney to put out on their platforms.

Saw it in theatres first week didn’t care for it.. I’m a big Eddie fan of his 80s movie.. in fact I’ve stated on here for yrs that hands down eddie Murphy raw is my fave standup comedy period.. but I wasn’t feeling bowfinger
