Lakers should have traded Reeves. They could have got a good return for him. A defensive trio of Reeves, Luka & Lebron at his age will get cooked every night.
Trade Reeves and get what? The problem the Lakers have is their trade bait is highly paid and Luka and Bron can't be traded....Which leaves Rui and Reeves....and what is Reeves worth to a team trying to win now that needs a big man? Its tough.

Sixers didn't have money on the books for him. There was nothing they could do.

Reaves, Rui & Gabe are 43M in expiring contracts. You only trade them if you're getting a superstar back. If not, let them walk & along with Lebron's 52M expiring, they'll have room next year for 2 max contracts.

I like Reaves but not at 49M a year with a max contact next year.

And the thing about expiring contracts that's usually dedicated for teams with a disgruntled player who's 'good but they dont' want to commit to him. Like a Bradley Beal type.

To get a superstar you gotta get ready to trade a star player and like 4 1st round picks.

Lakers in a tough spot.
