Music Debate: Jim Jones RESPONDS to Nas comparison | Fat Joe & Jadakiss

Fun facr Jim jones appeared on other cam songs b4 oh boy and nobody cared or probably can remember any of them.. oh boy was the first track people took the other dipset members serious.. which opened up the dipset mixtapes.. b4 that a lot of people just thought dipset was a logo on a t-shirt that cam said.. thank you oh boy for giving the other artist burn.. once again there is no ballin if there is no oh boy.. oh boy was the bigger track for many reasons

Kaboom

People also forget oh boy was also one of the beginning stages of the end of the roc.. oh boy beat was suppose to go to jay z and dipset stole the track and used it after jay took another track from them.. jay wasn’t feeling that.. in fact didnt jay try to make a oh boy remix and cam erased that shit

Corny to you but cam got a gold albulm out of it and he still was the face of dipset and the one carrying the whole team

Until oh boy came out and people were like hey guys those dudes around cam just weren’t the entourage and hanger on
Yeah but everyone went gold back then lol. I’m just saying Dipset era was when Cam
Became a threat down here. Especially in Texas. Not many artists were prime time like that from NY…Killa was one of them.

And 98 was a TOUGH YEAR

miseducation, DMX, Jay z, outcast, lox all multi platinum

Gold was impressive: def squad cappadonna goodie mob and Cam.

And Horse & Carriage was a HIT period.

I’m saying back then guys like Noreaga was going gold…Harlem World went gold…you had one hit and you’d go gold…things got harder as the internet came into play. And even then Horse and Carriage wasn’t even a monster like that. In comparison Jimmy had a monster in We Fly High snd went told both I think he was on e1 or Koch…

That’s my point though. In the 1990a Capadonna could go gold. In 2004…Capadonna could go plastic.

That link said it made it to 41 billboard top 100….9 on rap charts….that is nothing like Oh Boy or even Hey Ma.

No kaboom, yes Oh Boy introduced new fans to Dipest. But if you listened to Cam you already knew who they were.
I mean, Jim was on a song with Beyoncé

And if one listened to Dipset, they knew damn well who Julez before Oh Boy.

And those were on an album before Oh Boy.

Also Jim was on Cam's first album.

And Oh Boy was also on The Diplomats first mixtape which also released in 2002. I couldn't find out what was released first, the mixtape or Cam's official single release.

Regardless, my memory remember everyone screaming Ballin. Yes Oh Boy sold more records etc, but I don't remember Oh Boy taking over like Ballin did.

I mean it was so big, look who wanted to be on the remix.

Talking bout Nas when Jay was right there giving them hell. Lol. There was such a variety of fuckery going on back then. And you're right. I was in college at the time getting my hands on as many mixtapes and albums that I could. I remember when Ballin' took off and seeing folks in the club doing the jump shot dance. I hated it because I was the only one I heard bumping Dipset before that. None of the shit was listening too was getting played in the clubs. i mean what kinda dance a chick gonna do to "I'm Ready".

I remember the shift. Because it showed in the quality of the music. And the spirit in their production wasn't there anymore in my opinion. And folks was getting locked up which changed a lot music too. Because projects shelved, completely altered. All types of shit.

EVERYONE DID NOT GO GOLD
Who had a hit in the 90s and didn’t go gold? I’m sure someone did I’m just saying off the top I can’t think of it.

You know how many hits Flo Rida and Pitbukl have? Not one gold album.

J Kwon never went gold with Tipsy…

Rich Boy never went gold….

In the 2000s you could have a hit and still not go gold.

But you are neglecting the point @tallblacknyc is making about how powerful ASSOCIATION was.

Just having the Wu logo and a hot single was powerful. It wasn't EASY though but it was a great weapon.

The Pillage was fire and Cap put in serious work and was featured a LOT.

And there was still underground market which was powerful

Cap going gold is a testament to real hip hop fans supporting an artist. It's the exception that proves the rule.

MANY who had bigger machines budget promotion and airplay ain't go gold.

It was NOT easy.

And you also need to factor in how LONG it took to go old. that matters.

And don't forget bootlegging.

Everyone was NOT going gold

And Cappadonna success isn't an example of it being EASY.

In the 2000s you could have a hit and still not go gold.

You mixing eras and markets and audiences and end games.

Those two titans don't give a sh*t about ALBUMS!!!???

They smartly focused on pop, club, EDM, sponsorship and advertising.

That ain't the same thing as all the others you mentioning.

That's what we saying?!

Everybody didn't automatically go gold.

Maybe I should’ve said “easier”. It was easier to go gold in the 90s than in the 2000s. Even the guys you listed how many of them go gold in the 2000s? From Goodie Mob to Def Squad or Capdonna? Bootlegging was even more crucial in the 2000s….

I mean regardless though you trying to tell me Horse and Carriage Cam was as big as Dipset Cam? Because that’s where this started? I can’t speak for every region but I can for sure say in Texas Killa was bigger in Dipset. Maybe it was different other regions.

How is it not? They were rappers in the 2000s who couldn’t go gold. And Atlantic for sure shipped albums because they stayed on the shelves….it costs money to produce and release albums they couldn’t sell and eventually started focusing on singles but that wasn’t always the case. Pitbull was making rap music before that EDM shit….

What about J Kwon and RIch Boy?

I gave actual real metrics including sales and airplay and testimony from people who work in the industry who know these artists personally and were present at the time and worked with djs A&R club owners and radio station managers and strip clubs and street teams

And basically your response is...

OK got it.

I came back for this?

See yall next week...

Maybe.

Are you downplaying how big superthug was? Dude that shit catapult Pharrell career.. are you downplaying banned from tv? It had big pun, the lox, and one of the hottest beats.. nore had some joints in there

What do you consider downplay? Because my argument is Dipset Cam was bigger than Horse and Carriage Cam. If that’s downplaying Cam then so be it. But I wasn’t arguing skill or quality of rapping. I think most know Cam dumbed his shit down in the Dipset era but he was bigger then.

In 2000s nigs we’re going multi platinum with ease.. in the 90s going gold was an accomplishment, in the 2000s going gold was looked down upon.. in fact in the 2000s some artist was almost going gold the first week.. I can see you easily don’t remember or are naive to this.. literally 2000s is the 106 park era, bet uncut, hits from the street, more black artist being put on trl and mtv, the music vid exposure catapult in the 2000s guy

Outcast went gold in a week, I think bow wow, Eminem, Nelly, a bunch of motherfuckers in the 2000s

I gave you legitimate songs as possible btw of reference to prove that Jim and Julez was known well before Oh Boy.

And that's what you took away from it.

Ok got it and this is what I stick around here for? You might be the reason that I leave.

I agree the bigger artists were selling more than guys in the 90s did. OutKast, Em, Fif, etc. I’m not talking about the superstars I’m talking about the lesser knowm b list and below guys. Common was still going gold for sure. Some others. But guys like Capadonna wasn’t.

I said cam was already known..dipset wasn’t.. oh boy put dipset on the map.. cam already was known and was carrying the team.. oh boy was the beginning stages of what became the other members being known and what eventually led to ballin getting burn..with oh boy there is no ballin.. said this already

B4 oh boy who the fuck knew juelz orJim b4 2002 other than people that knew them.. hell juelz got pushed once Stan got pushed out the click

Well nobody was arguing Cam wasn’t known lol. Cam was bigger with Dipset then as Cam boy. I don’t get how that’s up for debate or why it’s even one. It doesn’t mean Cam is wack.

Everyone knows camron on the roc was more famous than cam on an independent label.. cam first platinum albulm was on the roc

Can went gold independent, which is basically platinum on a major label. I'm not sure what we're talking about now though?

If the board says that Oh Boy was bigger than Ballin then I'll accept it.

I just remember Ballin was popular to the point of people being tired of hearing it.
