Philadelphia 76ers Opted Out On Building Arena In Center City

Ok, they keepin it in South Philly I can rock with that.
Right where it should have been all along. There's enough space there for it.

The Flyers and Sixers are tapping the same design firm that was expected to build 76 Place to take on the new project in South Philadelphia, writes Jake Blumgart at the Inquirer:

The Philadelphia 76ers and Comcast Spectacor have selected an architecture firm to design their new South Philadelphia stadium, the first public steps for the project since the team’s contentious Center City proposal was withdrawn earlier this year.

The partners have chosen Populous, a global arena design firm, to craft the plans for the new South Philadelphia stadium. They will be partnering with architecture firm Moody Nolan, which has an office on Market Street.

The 76ers previously selected those two firms to design their abandoned Center City arena plans.
Populous was in charge of designing the Las Vegas Sphere and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and is currently building the Buffalo Bills’ new stadium. They’ve also undertaken entertainment district projects around the stadiums, which will be an important addition as Comcast and the Sixers have plans to build an entertainment district in South Philly with hotels, restaurants, and expanded Xfinity Live!, and more.

It’ll be interesting to see how much they take from the original 76 Place design now that they have to incorporate both teams, but they should knock this out of the park if any of the stadiums they’re currently working on are examples. They’re building this insane looking stadium in Saudi Arabia for the 2034 World Cup. It’s got three sides. Why? Because it’s freaking Saudi Arabia and they can:

Just curious, does the bus go out there?

Can’t remember if Philly has a metro or train system
Probably better off taking the train. A guy I know went to a Sixers game, parked far away. On the walk to the stadium he passed a park. He went in there to smoke a blunt and stumbled upon a homeless orgy and got chased 3 blocks by a naked white man screaming "Get back here, I know you are the faggot who stole my 2 dollars, you want some AIDS bitch?"

Hilarious. You have mental problems.

If you want real cred, name all the white people. Any fool who has listened to Anthony Gargano can rattle off the names of the players.
translation: I cant do it.... :giggle: :giggle: :giggle: who thehell remebers coaching staff outside of the head coach...in this case Coach Billy Cunningham and Asst Coach Chuck Daly

Chinatown ain't the place for a stadium. Just regular facility maintenance causes traffic problems, and none of those business owners are willing to possibly lose business because the sports ball team wants a stadium in the heart of the city.
Right. That was a horrendous idea. Put the new arena in South Philly and be done with it.

How far did this muthafucka park away?

I was cool with the center city location at the time.

But when they changed their mind to keep it in south philly, I was cool with that as well.

It was time for a new arena regardless because the one they've had was outdated and they wasted all that money with millions to do a renovation when they could've just built a more modern start of the art arena.

the CC loacation was a horrible idea for many reasons included what it would have done to chinatown. I think they floated it as leverage for a better deal in south phila.

Fuck chinatown, they basically changed their mind after they got approved to build the arena in CC. So, like I said chinatown wasn't stopping shit and they didn't, but a lot of those protestors got arrested when they went into city hall being disruptive.

But the owner of the formerly comcast spectator arena agreed to go 50/50 with josh harris on the new arena to build it in south philly.

I'm looking forward to how this new arena is gonna be built.

Wait, $50 to park!!!? :eek2:

Yeah if you park in the garage at the stadium.....

They have lots around the stadium where it's like $25, but them joints feel up so quick if you are not early. If it's a early game like around 1pm you maybe be able to find street parking, but it's about a 15 minute walk lol

I always take the metro train since it's like $5....

That's why I ask you guys how much parking is in Philly because I was curious to know if it's as expensive LOL

Yeah, good thing south philly don't have a parking garage since they have open space parking at the arena.

I would advise anyone who want to visit philly going to games to park in the parking lot at the game. I usually know someone who sell parking pass for games.

I never park in the parking garage that charges you by the hour.

But all cities are different when it comes to parking and not every city has open space parking.
