The traditional television landscape continues to erode at an alarming pace, as major cable and satellite providers, including DISH, Comcast, and Spectrum, collectively lost over one million TV customers in the first quarter of 2025 alone.

The staggering figures, drawn from recent Q1 earnings reports, paint a grim picture for the industry, with an average of over 11,000 American households cutting the cord every single day.

The Q1 2025 reports revealed substantial losses across the board:

Comcast, operating under its Xfinity brand, saw the steepest decline, shedding 427,000 TV subscribers. The company also reported a significant loss of 199,000 broadband customers during the same period.

DISH Network continued its downward trajectory, losing over 383,000 TV customers in the first three months of the year.

Spectrum (Charter Communications) reported a loss of 181,000 TV customers. Spectrum also saw a decrease in its internet subscriber base, losing 60,000 customers.

Altice USA contributed to the downturn, with a reported loss of 68,000 TV customers in the first quarter.

The combined TV subscriber losses from just these four providers total a staggering 1,059,000 in only three months.

This figure underscores the accelerating trend of consumers abandoning traditional pay-TV packages in favor of streaming alternatives and other digital entertainment options.

Industry analysts note that these major players are not alone, with numerous smaller cable TV companies also reporting subscriber declines in Q1 2025, pushing the total industry losses well beyond the one million mark.

Even some live TV streaming services, like FuboTV which reported a loss of 40,000 subscribers in the same quarter, are feeling the competitive pressure.

This relentless exodus from cable and satellite TV translates to more than 11,700 subscribers cancelling their services each day. If this trend continues, the industry is on track to lose over 4.29 million customers by the end of 2025, further reshaping the media consumption landscape.

The concurrent loss of broadband subscribers for giants like Comcast and Spectrum also signals intensifying competition in the internet service provision market.

this is misleading....

those people haven't really gone anywhere....they're STILL paying for internet service....

the cable companies or phone companies are STILL the only way to get online....
On top of this, they know it and are raising internet prices through the roof to make up for the losses. It’s bullshit. Nobody has the Internet speed like the cable companies

I'm paying $50/mo for 500mbps for interwebs.

If the price increases, just threaten to go elsewhere and they will give out introductory rate or just keep the rate the same.

I'm in the Midwest though, not sure if that makes a difference.

Yeah i had to make that call yesterday with my internet provider. New bill was $40 more and I was like yeah I need that reduced...they did it too lol

This is what will eventually happen if too many people start using IPTV services. They will throttle your internet speeds unless you pay for more and more expensive internet packages.

People are ordering the chicken fingers at the steakhouse.. the steakhouse wants you to buy the steak and other expensive dishes not the chicken fingers.. samething with cable companies, they want you to pay for cable, the internet just a small appetizer, they didn’t build cable companies just to provide internet service.. they didn’t intent for that to be the main course.. so ditching cable and just using them for internet is them just barely hanging on.. if another internet service provider comes along with better deals or product it’s game over.. they know this

To be honest, it's probably cheaper just to have cable or it's about the same price assuming you aren't paying and using alternative methods.

Most apps started around 5 to 10 dollars. Now, you could be paying 15 or more and you still have commercials. Then most of the people including myself have multiple services because everyone wanted to drive traffic to them directly instead of just leasing to Netflix/Hulu. They are packaging apps like they package movie channels too. Also, you could be paying more to use the service on multiple devices. It's damn near like being charged for multiple cable boxes. When it's said and done im probably still close to the $100 range.

Im sure Verzion likely does something similar, but the final thing Comcast did was charge me for an outlet. I thought i was getting over because I had my own modem/wifi router and no boxes. No matter what you do these companies will find some bullshit to add to your bill. If it wasn't for my kids and girl, I'd likely have the bare minimum. If it's a series I want to see, I'd just buy them.

ATT Fiber + my IPTV subscription is all I pay for.

Xinitty was becoming a pain on the ass with their sneaky internet increases and wouldn’t budge when trying to negotiate a new “promotional” deal like they used to.

Interesting thing with ATT, is that their monthly rate is exactly as stated($65 for 600 up/down), unlike these other companies that tack on outrageous fees and misc taxes that make zero sense.

I was about to ditch cable for Sling or whatever bullshit when we went upstate and the Air BNB had that shit.

Motherfucker was buffering every 3 minutes. I was like fuckety nope! All these cable streaming companies suck HIV+ dicks anyway.

AT&T is ranked the worst when it comes to Customer pricing. You'll soon see. Trust me, they got some fees coming or increases or both

But they also listed the lost of broadband subscribers as well. So people have really gone elsewhere.

People are paying for platforms and still gotta see ads. Makes more sense to get free platforms and watch the ads if you're gonna have to watch them anyway. Fox made a damn good investment with Tubi.
Right, Amazon prime even when you pay for it has ADS no matter if you pay for it or not..That's something you can't avoid.

Tubi has a lot of movies and shows but they aren't something worth to watch, I'll only watch for sex scenes..

Disney Hulu max has no adds for $29! It’s great and it also includes espn tnt and other sports. I’m good and don’t see adds at all! I’m interested in what @Deezz said about cinema he and iptv though…

I'm STILL keeping my ATT U-Verse. I pay 300 / month for TV and Internet. I HATE streaming. I want true HD quality video and audio. I can't live without my DVR. Plus, I don't know if I could live without my DVR :(
I was the same paying about $250 a month. And the DVR in multiple rooms was always the selling point but the DVR kept crashing and lost all shows multiple times. Now I pay 89 for just their internet. T-mobile gives me Apple TV and Netflix free. I pay $6 a month for Paramount plus and Showtime. Military discount got me 50% off. Paramount plus has live CBS and CBS local channels plus no ads on demand. Hulu and Peacock with ads is $2 a month each thanks to black friday deals. FiOS gave me Max and Netflix for free for the year when i cancelled rhe cable. For $100 a month i still have it all except sports and live locals but have an antenna for that and i can find a sports stream online. You can get YouTube Live TV or Hulu Live and it has a DVR.

Only issue is I know cable always works. Every once in a while I have buffering issues but can just on demand it later.

$300/ MONTH?!!!

BRUH....... I thought I was pissed when my intro rate of $128 jumped to $175....... $300?!!

Aye, I told them mfkrs give me the 1 gig Fiver plan, got Max included $100/ month......

And a lil iptv on the side is less than $20/month...

95% of the channels are at least 1080P HD, quite a few are true 4k also.

And you can set up recording on your android box and there's an app so I can access the box/apps on the go as well
