Joe Budden podcast done? No Rory or Mal for 2nd straight episode

I am 100% sure the JBP numbers have gone up a few percentage points with MLH on there

It's funny, but Karen Hunter said something similar a few weeks back on her in class with carr saying that reading books (not just reading in general) is a skill you have to be consistent with because she had stopped reading books for a while and she had to get back into it and be consistent.

Karen got smoke @18.16

Who has the bigger presence meaning who's more popular? Based off of a quick view, Joe and his platform appears to be bigger and more popular.

So the relationship is mutually beneficial so Joe didn't have to break the bank.
Marc is one of those guys that will get views on other platforms. But on his on platform he doesnt get much.

Flip and Ish get paid 30-40k to spew bs?
:hmm: :eek2:

I'm not pocket watching but I can go up there for 25k and talk out my ass.

Yeah, Flip threw the numbers out there while discussing the Rory and Mal departures.

Iirc, Flip asked Joe if he wanted to address the rumor that he only wanted to pay them (Rory and Mal) $30K/month and they thought they deserved a bigger piece of the whole pie.

And then you know how Flip talks,
"My son wouldn't play with me like that!'

Joe: "what you say?"

Flip: "I said, my son wouldn't play with me, paying $30K/ month. I see those Patreon numbers, BOYYYY!"

Joe: "Hahaha, shhhh chill, CHILL!!"

Then they changed subjects....
Hold on i thought Rory and mal were getting 40k? And flip got mad cause he gets 10k? I thought all of them getting around 10k thats why he got 5 of them? Rory was the one who said they got 40k.

You're the reason she's not happy:angry:

Mayne this Amerie interview is wild,

Sony wanted to take "One Thing" and give it to J Lo.......?!! What?!!

Her producer Rich Harrison (sp?) gave "Crazy in Love" to Beyoncé and they never had a conversation about it?!!

And now she's on some real ultra high wavelength, spiritual crystals and waistbeads shit........ laaaawd

Mfkrs said, "you're talking like this and you don't get high?!!" Hahahaha

I get almost losing One thing to Jlo. Vocally she isn't considered a strong vocalist, but she was higher profile when you include movies.

I don't really get the Beyonce thing though. I guess if you consider DC, but at that time Beyonce wasn't the Beyonce of today. I could be misremembering but all/most of the solo young female R&B ( Monica and Brandy are not included) artists were kind of on the same level. The exception being maybe Ciera, Ashanti and maybe Keisha Cole. Crazy in Love is off her first album and I think was the first single. At that point, the public were blaming Beyonce for the DC break up. The album being successful and her relationship with Jay is what took her to the next level. Then again, the DC shit alone was enough even with the public drama. Still she hadn't proven herself as a solo artist yet.

I don't know if Amerie version would have been better, but I'd be curious. The main issue for me is Crazy in Love and One Thing are very similar off the top of my head.

Aaliyah passed in Aug 2001. Like that following summer is when bootylicious came out, Beyonce shot to the front to be "next". At no time, Imo, was Beyonce surpassed. She might have been even but she was not surpassed. Her being in movies and TV shows kept her out there, even if the music wasn't poppin..

I would love Amerie on the pod on a more permanent basis. She has good energy and seems to be "outside" of all the hip hop drama.

This was common practice. I think Jay would get upset at Just Blaze, and then it became he got first refusal to a beat.

J Lo doing that song  Tommy Mottola was really trying hard to take Mariah out. Jenny isn't from the DC blocks.

Bottylicious is a DC song; not a Beyonce song. While I remember the MTV movie being hyped, I don't recall it being well received.Again, maybe I just don't recall and im bias as im not into musicals generally.

Aaliyah isn't a factor because she had already passed before Dangerously In Love comes out in 2003. Even if she were living, id likely place her with Monica and Brandy anyway. While her success/vocal abilities aren't in their league, id also put Mya in that class. Beyonce would be in the 2000s R&B solo artist class. At this point ( crazy in love single being taken), Beyonce is not a proven solo artist. Being in a successful group does not guarantee a successful solo career especially at the level of current day Beyonce. I get taking the risk with giving Beyonce the song given DC's success especially considering the group changed multiple times in a short period, but Amerie had already shown big success with a similar song.

This kind of contradicts my point, but Beyonce is on Happily Ever After with Case and I believe she somewhat appears in the video. However, i don't recall her being mentioned as a feature at that time. At least not for the video. Now I could be misremembering. My only point is outside of DC Beyonce was a regular artist in her peer group/class at that time.

I know im highly likely to be alone in this thinking, but i view Destinys Child the group to be popular; not necessarily Beyonce at that time. I know it sounds off however i never viewed them as individuals until Beyonce drops her solo album. It's kind of like the Migos. I never cared about them as individuals. For the longest, I didn't realize Rae Sremmurd was a group. You bring up the Jackson 5. You talk about Michael Jackson. SWV was a successful group; CoCo wasn't very successful as a solo artist. TLC as individuals never took off. Slim of 112 didnt have a successful solo career. There are clearly exceptions, but people generally don't firmly break out from the group. This is why I have a hard time factoring in Beyonce's time with DC.clearly, that had to be a major factor.

i never said anyone surpassed Beyonce. However, Rhianna drops two or three years later and is in the same league or not far removed from Beyonce popularity wise. Depending on who you talk to some put Rhianna over Beyonce.

This was actually a really good conversation......

Imo, Mel came off as more personable and "real." She admitted that at a point in time she was chaos, and men she dated/ interacted with may have called her "crazy" and that was also the time period she kept going to jail...... (I didn't know Mel was going to "jail" all like that years ago, but I'm sure it was over stupid shit.)

All of this was near the end of the pod,

Oh and she also talked about a friendship may have been developing between her and Kevin Samuels the last 8 months of his life. Just a really good pod.

I agree with Mel. My interaction with the pod is 95% audio. I see the clips posted here and on SM, but generally I listen.

I am all in on the narrative that Mel hates on women who come on the pod.... (especially women that could have and probably have men in common with her).....

That being said, from what I heard, Mel and Amerie had a great rapport with each other. They weren't talking over or interrupting each other and Mel was really engaged with her conversation.......man it's so hard to hate when Amerie is around, that woman's energy and aura is high on another level......

One thing that surprised me is how different Amerie's singing voice is from her normal voice.

Not as drastic as say Michel'le, moreso the difference between early 00's Shawn Carter and Jay Z....

And her new song is fire

True, but the way Amerie was telling it, without really "telling" it. Amerie is the artist, backgrounds AND writer. On a certain level she needed to be contacted and approve the use by J Lo...... she wasn't, so she leaked the track during Xmas break and local DJs blew it up and now Sony couldn't jack it.

SN: in regards to Jay-Z and Just Blaze, you do know that all started because Blaze gave Budden that Pump it Up beat right? Hahaha

Also at that time there were a lot of label politics going on, Tommy Motola had divorced Mariah and was determined to make J Lo her successor.

Hence J Lo got "Get Right,".... and was going to get "One Thing." Both produced by Rich.

I guess my and most people's issue with Rich giving Beyoncé "Crazy" is she wasn't "Beyoncé, BEYONCÉ" then, that was her first solo album. He already had an artist who had a massive solo album and needed tracks for the sophomore effort. "Crazy in Love came out May 2003, One Thing was leaked Jan 2005..... and according to Amerie that's how Rich worked, very methodical, aka slow.

He helped rocket a star who already had recognition from one of the biggest girl groups ever...... instead of his in house artist....

And Amerie's version may not have been as good.... but that sound, according to Amerie, she helped mold that live instrumentation, soulful gogo esque sound with Rich. He had success with those tracks but could never really strike lightning like they had together.

I can hear the asian influence in her voice.
