MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Whoa! It's a series?! Gotta check it out!

It's good. Checked it out within a few months of it being released and got through it pretty quickly. Enjoyed the assortment of characters.

I’ll probably pose question/request in other filmmaking related threads too

I’m looking up top money making theatrically released films of 2020s (basically the Covid years) and while the highest overall is easy to find and even the indies etc are decent lists, what’s harder to find are the lists of greatest ROI. So this would be a list with flicks like BOTH of the TERRIFIER sequels. Basically looking for production budget/cost to theatrical revenue at highest percentages. From the 90s PULP FICTION was likely the highest ROI maybe even globally… I don’t actually know this to be true but I know it has to be in top 10. It would be awesome if there was also a way to account for home sales/revenue but that’s notoriously shrouded in streaming era.

Any assists would be great!

Good lookin out

It’s almost always horror that has these high ROIs.

Appreciate you! Numbers probably still coming in but the Terrifier shit really is inspiring af to me. Love to see how T2&T3 and some of these bigger* A24 et al projects percentage out.

*MaXXXine trio etc. Everything Everywhere is one I’ll check on too… Best Picture but it SEEMED at least to get way more play than probably all 9 of 2024 nominees that aren’t WICKED lol

I know I’m late with it, but I’ll still copy here (shits still top of the lists on Netflix lol) —

re: DEN OF THIEVES and DEN OF THIEVES: PANTERA

Finally got around to both of these

Hard to complain. HEAT flip in first then a solid reckoning (vs a retread) with international flavor in PANTERA.

Solid shit. The more Hollywood flicks that hold themselves to these standards… shit might just be aight for the cinema haha.

Few weeks until HAVOC… I hope it’s dope and popular enough to get itself even an EL CAMINO special event type theatrical event if not a one week type limited run.

Bad as niggas home set ups are - I can’t imagine not having seen THE RAID flicks or the JOHN WICKs mostly in theaters as well

Black Bag

It's always a great thing when a Director and writer can team up and have fun with an old genre. This movie about a British intelligence agent, George Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender), being tasked with investigating a potential mole within his organization, a list of suspects that includes his wife, Kathryn (Cate Blanchett) is as sharp and cutting as it could be and more. I really enjoyed how everyone used various ways to casually interrogate each other. This plays out so well whether it was in a group setting or one one. The aforementioned Director Steven Soderbergh and writer David Koepp not only play with the difficulties of being a spy but also if you are having a romantic relationship with a fellow spy. A lot of great dialogue is displayed throughout the movie some with salt and some without. As Freddie Smalls ,Tom Burke, and Marisa Abela as his lover Clarissa Dubose have great moments together that just boil over in scene stealing ways. As Colonel James Stokes, Regé-Jean Page, and his lover Dr. Zoe Vaughan portrayed by Naomie Harris also have some electric and stinging moments together. The setups in the story are really done well.

PROBLEMS: I wish a couple of the misdirects were written more sharply even though one of them lead to a great line of dialogue. It was just to obvious that one of the suspects wasn't the traitor.

Scale of 1 to 10 an 8½
