Travel Debate: Three American myths I don't believe anymore after living in Europe

I hear what she saying but I’m not moving to the cac birthplace known as Europe… I’d move to a place majority black.. like a country in Africa, maybe the West Indies, even possibly a Latin American country.. but no pale faces or Asian

WHY DO BLACK PEOPLE WHO ARE FED UP WITH WHITE SUPREMACY IN AMERICA RUN TO EUROPE...THE BIRTH PLACE OF WHITE SUPREMACY??
Yeah.
That's what I don't understand.
It seems like Black Americans who leave the USA are always so eager live with/around non-Blacks in other countries. They almost always move to Europe or Asian countries that are OVERWHELMINGLY White or have a very low percentage of Black people.

And yet these folks RARELY relocate to Africa nor any other modern, predominantly Black countries or territories.
I wonder why...?

It's alot like the passport bros who UNIVERSALLY run to countries overflowing with "traditional" non-Black women to "date".

I have a permanent residence card for Panama now, so I'd be happy to share as much as I know.
So...how long. from start to finish, did it take you to get your card? I am debating between Costa Rica and Panama at this very moment, but don't want to put two applications for residency in two countries at the same time. I have friends in Limon province in CR, so I am kind of leaning in that direction. I like the fact that Panama is WAAAY cheaper, but my Spanish is not up to par yet. Trying to figure out colones to dollars in CR is a pain in the ass. Their residency application can take up to 18 months, but allows you to live in the country until the process is complete.
Thanks for any and all info you are willing to share.

To each their own. I pcs'd to Germany two weeks before 911. From 2001 to date, I've only spent 4 years in Colorado.
Even though I work on military bases, I live on the German economy and that shit isn't bad at all.
Your pay is increased to make up for the dollar to euro conversion. Public safety in Europe is on point. No crazies and no guns. I've never had to worry about my kid playing in the neighbourhood or not make it back from school.
Your American insurance is accepted if you ever have to use it.

Most of Germany don't have a problem with skin color (except in some places in the former russian occupied Germany AKA East Germany) and if you're single, the sky is your limit

I don't have all the details about actually living in Germany as a local since I'm covered under the Status Of Forces Agreement which means i don't need a visa to be here. But I'm familiar with the following:

If you want to come live in Germany, I believe you will need a reason. You're good for 90 days without visa. You can't claim asylum status since all is well in America (at least until Trump takes over and the shit hits the fan). You will need a connection to permanent residence by marriage or by work.

I'll continue to stay here as long as the Army's DOD keeps extending me.
Every time I come back to CONUS, I feel like i have to be extra careful because shit just pops off at any time.

When I retire, I might just hang it all up here since I have a house here in Germany which you can do under the SOFA. You can be financed by a German bank as long as you have proof of employment.

And I still don't speak German since I'm not working on the economy but on base.

It took 6 months.

You never know. A lot of people have been asking my about it lately. My sis-in-law moved to Thailand last month. She loves it. I'm not really into SE Asia like that. Our move was in the works for 2 years. I wouldn't advise panic moving though.

I spent a week in Vietnam for work and going back early next year. It was a great experience. Food quality was amazing. The people were very friendly, too.

I’m not sure about them being so laid back though, but they don’t seem to rush.

I’m not planning to move out the country, but I won’t rule it out.

And something that you mentioned in previous post is the myth of America. You’re right. A lot of other countries don’t give a fuck about what America got going on. They got their own shit to deal with.

Being in a country where you don’t have to worry about getting shot because some fool was having a bad day was glorious. Or being in a place where road rage doesn’t exist.

I saw more accidents in 4 years in Colorado than I've seen here in Germany in 20 something years. Driving is taken seriously around here. No hot head driving, even in bigger cities like Berlin, Frankfurt, or Munich

I was in gridlocked traffic in Saigon and I saw zero accidents or dents on cars. I’m not sure about Germany, but there is no vehicle insurance in Vietnam that I am aware of. So nobody is trying to lose their transportation.

Nobody was trying to come up to get an insurance payout. Getting cut off is the norm because there is so much traffic. People slow down or stop to let folks get in. The horn is used as a signal and not a sign of disrespect.

I didn’t understand how much shit I worried about here until I went to another country. I’m not suggesting it’s better there, I just have a deeper appreciation for how other folks live outside of America.

I remember seeing a video on here of people being confused about how to navigate a traffic circle...shit was funny. no one knew who had the right of the way... those traffic circles are the norm in Europe and they work once you understand who has right of way where there no traffic signs.

In the Uk there is a glass ceiling, its easier to get on the ladder, but harder to progess.
unless you are a white male, from the right schools and speak the right way
you wont hit the top unless you sell out

In the USA, i feel there are more barriers to getting on,
but once you get on, the only limit is how hard you are willing to work...

Cities like Detroit, Chicago, NYC, Baltimore
where I see black guys in power, doctors, nurses, heads of business
etc etc
What business? In Detroit? there are VERY few, and they are usually barber shops, hair salons, and boutique bakeries.

Black people are NOT in power in Detroit. White mayor, almost half the police force is white. Even the school board, though all black and female, is headed by a trumpian white guy.

Arabs own the food supply and gas stations. I found ONE black liquor store a few weeks ago, and was shocked. Like finding a living wooly mammoth.

Just sayin'.

WHY DO BLACK PEOPLE WHO ARE FED UP WITH WHITE SUPREMACY IN AMERICA RUN TO EUROPE...THE BIRTH PLACE OF WHITE SUPREMACY??

Western Europeans are typically far better educated, and far less hung up on race than Americans. There are exceptions, of course. I understand Spain, Italy and parts of the UK are much like the U.S. with regard to racism.

Eastern Europe is another story; they tend to be racist as hell.

You don't even have to go as far a Europe to find this. Canada is like America without the guns, KKK, and high fructose corn syrup.

I am in the Caribbean now. People take their time here. Seem to be into living life as opposed to rushing headlong to a heart attack. Might sound strange, but even the dogs and cats in the street seem laid back.

It takes a minute to realize you are the one hell bent on getting everything done yesterday. I could live here.

Yeah.

Bad comparison. Pp bros are running from black women

As a European that moved to the US
one thing i believe in is the power of the individual

my hard work and self reliance, has gotten me way much more than my peers that still live in the UK

That is my American dream.

I came here, worked my ass off and have been rewarded for it.

That would not happen in England
America is still racist

I have a permanent residence card for Panama now, so I'd be happy to share as much as I know.
I’m interested. Please share.
I'm in France right now and the quality of the food is not even close. The US allows so many preservatives and chemicals in our food it's just shameful.
We need to overhaul our food system.Every Walmart in America is full of people who aren’t just fat, but fat in weird places. Huge heads, fat torsos, and fat arms with skinny legs. I didn’t see any non tourists shaped like that in Asia or Europe.

PP bros are running from feminism.
Maybe they are just sick of their ignorant countrymen. (and women.)

The kind that find something wrong with going to places they have never been, and couldn't find on a map without help.

Quite refreshing, actually. Like escaping from a mental institution.

So, you're trying to say that Black expats who relocate to European, Spanish & Asian countries aren't purposely moving AWAY from Black people in general...?
'Cuz I think I made a pretty "spot on" comparison...

And let's face it; no Black person who relocates to Poland, Czechoslovkia, Prague or Budapest is doing so to become closer to The Black Community...

Why are you guys insulting Caribbean people like we don't work?
I didn't insult anybody. In fact, I thought it was a complement. People here aren't lazy; they just aren't trying to get everything done day before yesterday. You need a vacation.

Look, if you are looking for a quarrel, do it in another thread, or just block me and whomever else got your panties twisted in knots.

I am here to share information with people better traveled and more experienced than me, Period.

Save the drama for someone who wants to fight. I'm going to have a slice of papaya.

As I pointed out, Black people relocating to countries with LESS Black people aren't doing so to embrace Black culture...
There is no such thing as "black culture". Culture among black people differ quite a bit from nation to nation, location to location. It is not monolithic. Afro Caribbean culture is not the same as Black American culture is not the same as Nigerian culture. Do you see a pattern here?

Why do these obscure people crawl out of the woodwork to fight in a thread clearly not meant for them? If your have no interest in the subject, why waste the time of people who are?

Look at the original post. Anything there about embracing "black culture?"

#1. No such thing as, "Black Culture"...?
- You joking right?

#2. You then literally contradict yourself by stating: "Culture among black people differ quite a bit from nation to nation, location to location. It is not monolithic. Afro Caribbean culture is not the same as Black American culture is not the same as Nigerian culture."
- By your own words, you speak of some differences in Black culture from WITHIN the Black diaspora.

#3. I didn't "crawl out of the woodwork" to fight anyone. I was merely agreeing with 2 other members who made their own observations about Blacks relocating to other countries abroad.

#4. As someone who's lived abroad for a few years, I'm allowed to have an opinion on the state of things with regards to Blacks relocating to foreign countries. Hell, I might even have some valuable insights to offer on the subject.

#5. What's with all the hostility...?
Did I strike a personal nerve or something?

You really don't have anything better to do?

I ain't reading all that bullshit.

What makes you think I want to have a conversation with you? It should be glaringly apparent that I do NOT.

This is why I usually just lurk. Always one in the mix. Damn.

Back to lurkin'.

Cheers.

Dude.
YOU came at me.
I'm not the villlain here.

Why are you guys insulting Caribbean people like we don't work?
Bruh I never said Caribbean people don't work. But when I was in there they were not on time for anything lol.

I hired a chef to come to my villa at 2 PM to prepare lunch. My man showed up at 6PM, no calls saying he would be late, no I'm sorry for being late. His food was amazing though.

In fact, I hired him again the next time I went there. But punctual, he's not.

You've literally been on every country on planet. What's your favorite
Dude, it's hard to say. Lots of places have give and take. Senegal was dope, Namibia was nice, I loved Azerbaijan and was treated well there. Ghana felt like home though. Every face was familiar and I got to spend a few weeks in Accra as well as Takoradi.

I think I mentioned that I was on the Jack Ryan rig when the brothers took that shit over and the cacs was panicked. Shit was lovely to see. Cac came into the change room talking about get yall shit together and get to work. Next thing, he retreats to the top decks and shuts off the elevators and shit. Then the cooks say y'all can eat dicks. White people in the meeting talking about what we gonna do?!?

Brothers hit me on the side with soda and sandwiches and shit cause from day one I treated them with respect and ate at their table with the locals. We chopped it up daily, and I made sure my local techs got time in the pilot chair.

However, I would be divorced if I worked there full time. I got more attention there than any place other than Singapore. I'd have to bring my wife with me.

Myth #2: Individualism is the key to success.**

In America, we're taught to be independent and self-reliant. But in Europe, they value community and collaboration. I've learned that it's okay to ask for help and rely on others.

I’ve seen and lived this experience all over the world.

I wish that one day, black people in the states will collectively be freed from this mentality in particular. There is no prize at the the end of this rugged individualism rainbow and the small faux pride you do get, certainly goes before the fall.

I didn't see another Black person the 4 days I was in Singapore. Folks were nice though. I definitely want to go back.
