You'll be doing a disservice not watching the first series. The Black man in that one was a beast.
It's not required for this story arc as it takes place 300 years later, but it'll help, as there are recurring characters.
Also, the original story arc was done to perfection.
Dude's gonna get that black voodoo pussy put on him. Next time we see him, he'll be wearing dreads and eating bean pies.

I finished watching season 2 this week, It was pretty good!!... 
....I wonder if they going to do a season 3 cause the way it had ended you can't tell if they will or not!!..But, season 2 was good!!..

I started these this yesterday afternoon at home and finished up last night.
The season picked up immediately from the events in the season one finale.
It takes place along with events of The French Revolution.
Erzsebet‘s origin is told thru out the season in flashbacks.
Every episode had a minimum of one fight scene.
All the major plot lines were closed out to end the season. As of this writing, no word on a season 3 or a separate series. Streaming numbers/viewership has been good, so there should be a good chance of it being renewed.
