I laugh because I could see this with me and my kids. Except I'm in the generation Sydney portrays and the story comes back full circle. Then you understand your parent's motivation & thinking. The younger generation never appreciate nor comprehend fully the previous generation until they are in the same position. I try my best not to place my baggage & worldview on my kids, often it can't be help b/c it happens unconsciously & spontaneously. I just try to given them space to develop into themselves without my judgement. It's tough. My father used to say "the sins of the father (parents) fall upon the children".
Also, I dislike when the younger generation say what they would have done in the past or de-value or not recognize the courage, fortitude, endurance & accomplishments of the previous generations. Equally I recognize that the older generation should not shit on the younger. Becareful of what you say to your kids. Your words & actions have powerful impact on them and may come back to haunt you and hurt them.
