With hindsight in mind, he knows he messed this one up. He has caught a dose of reality thinking that having Nato on Russia's doorstep would work out well for him

They are way past the point of halting the war, at this point somebody has to win and lose.
Too many resources pillaged and too many lost lives to just call a truce. If so, all involved from the United States and Ukraine should be prosecuted for war crimes.
