Sorry man, I know I am a piece of shyt but I HAVE to watch dubs! I feel like I am missing something when I read subtitles. I know the translations aren't the same, but I get pretty entranced in fight sequences (I think I channel dead stunt men/coordinators when I watch action movies) that having to read fcuks the movie up for me. I am the same with anime as well, that and the voices drive me up a wall

3. if your watching a drama or character study then yeah subtitles and getting the cultural nuance of foreign movies is important....but action movies?? thrillers?? All you need to know is the basic premise and sit back and enjoy the ride of the flick. Imagine reading the SUBTITLES to a fast and furious movie.. like its REALLY that important to get a direct translation of what Dominic Toretto is saying?:lol:

I was simply giving why subtitles can be important. I know some people that can read AND watch the action at the same time. I can do it, but I get annoyed cause I feel like I missed something. But I don't want you thinking I am objecting to something you're saying cause like you said we were on the same page.

Fucks me up all the time. I've re-watched Shogun episodes in both because the show got me thinking about details surrounding the time period. I don't want to miss cultural nuances and interactions while I'm reading a movie/tv show :hmm:.

And I counter by saying people aren't used to having an action star that can actually act
So when he's digging deep and portraying the anger hurt growth etc
They ain't used to it. They want you to get to it cause you know the star can't act but can fight

Normalize action stars having DEPTH and range and SKILLS


And also being able to fight too

That's what I've been saying his motivation was CLEAR

And he acted without saying much of anything. But saying everything with his acting.

But to be fair that trailer was near perfect and I understand based SOLELY on that? The audience was expecting a FULL ON Indian John wick

Like I said the wannabe director in me wanted a longer final boss fight and some more training and more of the little peg leg guy.

I wanted more slums and more depravity
 
I don't think the issue is the lack of action, it's the expectations from the trailer

I had more problems with the uneven pacing and unnecessary flashbacks.

A lot seems to have been cut. From background on what was going on with the government to the love story.

YES!!!!!!!

I wanted more of that WORLD. HE never followed up on the network of thieves and how he built it up or became initiated!

I wanted him to heal THERE initially and then later master the monkey style at the temple.

I wanted the outcasts there to show him secret fighting techniques too. And maybe spar with him.

I wanted more of the bedazzled ninjas in the fight scene at the club too.

I think the constant filthy water must of symbolized something too

Should've just been 3 total that tell the entire story

This may sound silly

But the audience I was with groaned when he walked back into the club

And after bleaching the mask and walking thru the crowd

He threw the mask away before he climbed the gate.

I kinda did want him fighting with the mask in the club

However I completely understand why he wanted and needed you to ser him do all the fighting

BUT that image of the white monkey mask and the suit would have looked incredible

Especially game of death style John wick kung fu temple style

Should NEVER have shown the unbreakable window in the trailer the audience would have exploded if they didn't know that was coming
