The fact that some people are making this out to be some conspiracy is mind blowing.
The sea is a very harsh environment. The crews hired to maintain these vessels are usually a mix of whoever they can find to work them.
I'm sure maintenance is not always a top priority.

not sure who all here who knows anything about engines but the engine on that ship looks as if it started to run away as a diesel mechanic myself soot bellowing out of the exhaust tells me somethin happend either the throttle was overran which i would find hard to believe unless the electronics were tampered with cus i find it hard to believe that engine is mech inj or it was sabotaged look up run away diesel you will understand once you seen one in real life
Yes, and the federal government will get that money back, but the federal government is going to pull up the money first, so the rebuilding can start immediately. That money fund the insurance company is not going to come through quickly.
60 mill is a good start. To build a new bridge, you're looking at 200 mill+. There is no rebuild. They are building a new bridge. And I would assume something with piers that are far stronger.
Hey, you could have a high-grade of pillars, but if the ship hits it at the right point, (especially a heavy ass ship like that one) it’s going to break. That’s physics.

I can't find it now, but there was an article that said ships are a lot bigger now than they were in the 70's when the bridge was originally built, and are likely to continue to increase in size.
