The basketball HOF weighs the international career and impact of players from overseas, then they should factor in an American that helped expand the sport overseas. Who in the hell has done more for GLOBAL basketball than Marbury? Basically he definitely should be in. If Vlade Divac and others like him have a spot, fuck that Starbury is an icon and should have been in.

Note tho, most international players recognized as HOFers have participated in global competitive play (Olympics, FIBA, World Games, etc..). And not just leagues in other countries.
Thats a reasonable argument. But a wrong one. It isnt about tailoring speech for white acceptance. Its refraining to use certain speech for their entertainment or enjoyment. I have a level of comfort and familiarity with folk here and communicate a certain way.. I wouldnt dare take that level of discourse to certain environments. Place and time and societal awareness are important.

I think that’s a terrible trap minorities fall into and I try hard to avoid it. White people have enough real power without us giving them imaginary powers as well. It’s the worst example of allowing someone— an entire race in this case— to live rent-free in your mind.

I get this point of view. And i agree in a general application. I just disagree as it applies to certain colloquial speech in mixed company. I wouldnt hold certain conversation before certain audiences nor would i engage in certain language before certain audiences. We have a complicated and unique history and experience so i get nuanced opinions on the usage itself. But the dynamic of being a Black entertainer, already tasked with entertaining white masses, using it as the only Black face surrounded by laughing white ones is shameful.
This made me think of Dave Chappelle quitting his show, though it would still often apply to him and other comedians today.
