Apple's Reality Pro headset may see the light of day at WWDC in June.

Apple, it’s believed, is going to unveil its first new product category in years when it unveils a mixed-reality headset on Monday, June 5. But Ross Young, a respected analyst who specializes in displays, claims to have significant information and has released it in a series of tweets.

He begins, “You want more, I will give you more: Micro OLED specs for Apple's AR/VR headset: 1.41" in diagonal 4000 PPI >5000 nits of brightness”.

Okay, so that’s quite a bit of information already. Two displays measuring 1.41 inches across the diagonal. Not that remarkable, but the next line is: “4000 PPI”. PPI is pixels per inch, and it’s astonishingly high. Bear in mind that the pixel density for the iPhone 14 Pro is 568ppi. This is the kind of resolution made possible by micro OLED. And in his next tweet, Young says that means it “should be 4K per eye”. Also pretty remarkable.

And then the brightness: more than 5,000 nits. Young has since specified that this is peak brightness but even so, that’s remarkable. Presumably that brightness will be deployed for HDR content rather than all the time, but HDR is not found on all VR headsets.

The brightness won’t be used to dazzle or blind the wearer, of cours. Rather, it would likely be used to create exceptional contrast levels, and to do the thing HDR does so well, that is, showing detail in bright skies and dark shadows at the same time, for instance.

Another report today, in The Information, comments on how the unique design with curved glass with edges wrapped in smooth aluminum frame that appears slightly thicker than an iPhone has caused unprecedented design challengers.

Of course, there’s an awful lot still to be revealed by Apple on Monday. What will the device look like—beyond the description in today’s report? How much will it cost? Read the eye-watering rumor of the price here. Exactly what does Apple want us to use it for? Will it be better than all its rivals? And will the arrival of the headset mean greater interest in VR and AR overall, that is, does a rising tide lift all headsets?

Not long until we know the answers to all of the above.

Was just going to post this. It looks like it could be a game changer and the technology is dope.....but that price would need to come down dramatically.

I hardly use my Oculus VR as is and everytime I do, my eyes hurt and I get a headache. lolz at spending $3500 on a first generation product that will probably fuck up your senses everytime you use it.

Probably. Last time I played it, I downloaded the Star Wars Galaxies Edge game and I legit felt dizzy for the rest of the night.

I have 20/20 vision, but my eyes were killing me after. Definitely think it's something associated with one's natural senses.

Apple Unveils the Mixed Reality Headset 'Vision Pro'

Apple unveils its mixed-reality headset called the "Vision Pro." Apple shares climbed slightly on the news. CEO Tim Cook made the announcement at Apple's WWDC

If they expect this to become a household product with a device for each family member that price tag got to fall big time.

I understand the need to recoup development costs but still........

$3,500

Metaverse user laughed at Apple Vision Pro's $3,499 price tag and said he'd only be willing to pay $700, report says

  • A Metaverse user thinks Apple's eye-watering price tag for its new Vision Pro is laughable.
  • The user told the Financial Times he was only willing to pay around $700 for Apple's new headset.
  • The $3,499 price tag was met with an exasperated response from audience members on Monday.
A Metaverse user thinks the high price tag for Apple's Vision Pro headset is laughable.

In an interview that took place in a room in Meta's Horizon Worlds environment, a user who went by the name Jiople15 told the Financial Times he liked the look of Apple's new headset but found the idea of paying $3,499 laughable. He said he was only prepared to pay around $700.

The Texas-based man also told the FT he used his Oculus about once a week but thought the augmented-reality element of Apple's product would be better than the "tunnel vision" of Meta's offering.

Apple's mixed-reality headset has been met with enthusiastic reviews from critics. However, its price tag has been somewhat controversial.

When the tech giant announced its Vision Pro headset on Monday at its Worldwide Developer Conference, the price was met with groans, sighs, and laughter from the audience, as Insider's Pete Syme reported. Amusing videos of the collective reaction have been shared widely on social media as some users poked fun at the company.

The price has also been a source of interest among analysts. Anisha Bhatia, a senior technology analyst at GlobalData, said that the price "will inhibit adoption" of the new product, but added that "Apple is not looking to make money" off the Vision Pro just yet.

If fans do plan to splash out on Apple's new headset, they'll still have to wait until early next year to get their hands on it.

Representatives for Apple did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal working hours.

man yall tripping. Apple gonna make a ton of money off they shit because the apple fan boys will insist on buying it. We are consumers and apple got their lane sewn up tight. A lot of products should have never been sold for the price they sold at but yet we buy them anyway.

I just use my Oculus today for the first time in a while. When I use it two days ago it was locked and I had to factory reset to unlock it.

I forgot how much this motherfucker made you sweat. God damn. I played Super Hot VR, Sports Scramble, and a racketball game.

I've been slacking for a while diet wise and my weight got up. I'm at 223 now. Fuck this shit. I'm about to let it charge up so I can go again. This weight is coming off

I say get the fuck out of here with that price, but I already don't fuck with Apple. People clown me all the time for being Android instead of iPhone but I don't give a fuck
I saw that. Apple on crack.
That's what I said. $3,500? Not me. Especially considering this is the first time I picked up my Oculus in like 6 or 8 months

This here. You got motherfuckers out there that swear by anything Apple drops. They could have made the shit like Jurassic Park fucking $10,000 a piece and they would be hard to find like a PlayStation 5.

It looks fun and immersive, but $3,500? Get the fuck out of here

You have to sign up for an Apple Card before you get to demo it. Then the new OpticID system pre-charges your card as soon as you put it on.
