Shedeur Sanders says he wants LaJohntay Wester at Colorado

Buffs QB trying to recruit the former FAU receiver to Boulder

Shedeur Sanders wasn't shy about who he wanted as Colorado's next transfer portal player. The Buffaloes quarterback took to X (Formerly Twitter) on Saturday, pleading for LaJohntay Wester to be Boulder bound.

Skip Ad
Jaylen Wester says his brother brings a "dog mentality" for Coach Prime and Colorado

Wester has spent the past three years at Florida Atlantic. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound receiver had career highs with 1,168 receiving yards and eight touchdowns last season. He had 2,703 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns as a two-year starter for the Owls. An original unrated recruit from Palmetto (Florida) as part of the 2020 class, who had only one offer during the height of the covid pandemic.

Sanders could use Wester's talents in the Buffs stacked receiver rotation. He would also be a solid addition with Xavier Weaver heading to the NFL. Colorado's offense looks for more weapons after averaging 363.6 yards per game last year. Sanders remains the biggest component to CU's success as an early Heisman favorite in 2024. He'll be chasing a few more records again next season after setting Colorado's single-season mark for passing yards.

Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes have added nineteen players via the transfer portal during this cycle. Colorado's combined recruiting class for 2024 is currently ranked 21st overall, according to 247Sports. This includes top offensive lineman Jordan Seaton, who reportedly turned down a "seven-figure offer" from Tennessee to join Coach Prime at CU.

probably a good 10 player will be hitting the portal soon from Colorado. If people spin in negatively it won’t be. The receiver room has to many players.

My count is 20 receivers and 18 or 17 of them are scholarship. So I anticipate a large exit of players

Colorado lands two massive defensive line transfers

Too much depth is never a bad thing

Even more reinforcements are coming to help bolster Colorado’s defensive front. In 2023, The Buffs’ front four was relatively undersized and had some issues with consistently getting to the quarterback. To help combat that, Deion Sanders has brought in two massive (literally) defensive line transfers to help the Buffaloes get bigger up front.

The first of which is Arkansas’ Taurean Carter. The gigantic 6 foot 3, 303 pound defensive lineman will be using his graduate transfer to spend his final year of eligibility in Boulder. Carter played in 33 games for the Hogs in the last three season, recording 60 tackles and 2.5 sacks in that time. It sounds as though Carter verbally committed to SMU last week, but had a change of heart after speaking to Colorado’s staff. Carter’s size and SEC experience are important assets that he brings to the table and should help bolster the unit in 2024.

Coach Prime wasn’t done there, as he snagged New Mexico State’s Nikhil Webb-Walker from the transfer portal on Friday afternoon. The Aggies’ defense was phenomenal last season and Webb-Walker played a sizable roll in their dominance. Webb-Walker recorded 22 tackles and three sacks alone last season, which helped propel NM State to a second place finish in C-USA and a triumphant win at Auburn. The addition of Webb-Walker adds even more depth to Colorado’s defensive front and creates an intriguing competition for playtime.

The Buffs’ defense under Deion Sanders is looking better (and bigger) than ever thanks to these two transfers.

Welcome to Boulder, Taurean and Nikhil!

You may not think that the Colorado Buffaloes need any more wide receivers, but watching Washington go to the national championship game should convince even the most skeptical fan that game breaking pass catchers can take you far. It’s not fair for anyone to try to live up to Rome Odunzie, but the WRs coming to Boulder this offseason definitely compete for one of the best rooms in the country. Xavier Weaver is gone, sure, but Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr return. Add Will Sheppard to that mix and you have a solid group. Add LaJohntay Wester to the mix and WE ARE COOKING WITH GAS.

Wester spent the last four years at FAU, where he was the most consistent option for the Owls’ offense. He has 215 receptions over the last three years, including 108 catches last year and has averaged 8 touchdowns over the last two years. He just gets open and has speed to burn.

Welcome, LaJohntay Wester!

The fuck?

Their roster update has to be wrong. I know it shows 21 wide receivers but that can’t be. If so a bunch of players will jetson after the spring game lol

I am curious what will happen with the receivers. Mathis is a coaches’s son and wasn’t that productive last season. Jimmy Horn Jr is one of Coach Prime’s favorites but was less productive than Wester and smaller than both Wester and Sheppard.

Man why you named two of the most noticeable and favorite players in that room…(outside of Trav)
Nothing gonna happen with them, i mean why something should. Horn Jr gonna do his thing(if he had a couple more catches, he would have declared)
Lil Mathis gonna have to figure out a way to get more reps but dude be solid since getting to Boulder.

Running 4 wide, they need a deep stable of route runners…

Remember these players are no longer on the roster…

Xavier Weaver
Javon Antonio
Willie Gaines
Chernet Estes
Cole Boscia

get a couple from highschool then get some dawgs from portal….

Your room is right back where “YOU” want it….

It appears Coach Prime is doing everything to make his son look great. That seems obvious with having 21 wide receivers…lol

Jimmy Horn may be the odd man out from a talent perspective.

@^SpiderMan^ is spot on. Horn may be the odd man out. Horn plays the same position as LaJohntay Wester and at no point in Horns Career has he shown the ability and production Wester has.

Then you have other receivers who are a lot bigger and faster. Horn could easily get lost in the shuffle
