The Crown
Final Season 6 Part 1
Official Trailer
Debuts November 16, 2023

I watched the first 4 episodes of the final season this afternoon with my wife.

They mainly went into the relationship that Diana had with Dodi leading up to her death in episode 4. The series went into how the Royal family started screwing up the mourning process.

The last episodes to finish the series debut December 14, 2023.

The wife wants me to get into this series and I've been holding off. I'm a fan of all things UK but this showcase so hyped I was reluctant

how do feel about the series as a whole? And how would people unfamiliar with the royals respond? Did the deal with Diana death respectfully?

It’s a good series. You won’t be disappointed. Good series to watch with your girl also and still keep your Man Card in good standing.

There is some fictionalization added to make things interesting like “Godfather of Harlem”. But it doesn’t take away from the story.

The main thing is Queen Elizabeth putting the throne ahead of her family, there some scenes where you wanna throw the remote at the TV cuz of her stupidity on how she treated her 4 kids.

The Diana story played out well up to her death and they mainly took everything from the headlines. We did get some insight on her kid’s reaction to the divorce and her death.

Casting is insane with them finding people who actually look like the royals. Especially the actress who plays Diana in season 5/6.

Thanks for the vidclips and link, Playa.

Alan Sepinwall from Rolling Stone was on the latest episode of Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast talking about the book.

Sepinwall used to co-host a podcast with Dan Fienberg (from TV's Top 5). They mention it occasionally when Sepinwall guests on the show. It was a bit before my time, but I'm tempted to go back and look for archives of the show (before I knew about both of their work). I didn't know about either of them in years past, but do now following TV & movies more closely. They really know their shit when it comes to TV ... so it would be interesting to hear their takes on past shows and seasons. Stuff they generally got right / wrong with their hot takes.

The Curse

Quirky, eccentric ,darkly humorous, cringey with some sadness infused in this parody of home renovation reality shows which also touches on other reality shows is not for everyone. In fact I have a couple of family members who couldn't make it past the first twenty minutes of episode one. But I'm enjoying it for the most part.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

Aside from needing a family tree to keep up with all of the jumping back in forth in various time periods I'm enjoying this series so far . My only other complaint is the lack of Japanese translation in the series. They've come up with some unique monsters and some exciting story set ups.

I remember when Seacrest was just the second host on some singing competition on Fox...

And look at him now.

Agreed. It's amazing the amount of work he's done over the past 20+ years. He pretty much arrived on everyone's radar as the co-host alongside Brian Dunkleman back in the day. And all these years later he's earned hundreds of millions of dollars via hosting, executive producing, radio work, etc. Whereas most people ask, Brian who?

That's a good promo.

I need to re-up our home plan before the first few days of December. TV, phone, internet.

Have a good "Legacy" / grandfathered plan which includes Crave On Demand in the bundle. And Crave (in Canada) carries HBO, Showtime, HBO Max. So that's been only $8 (total combined) for the past 2 years. Hopefully they can continue with that "Legacy" offering in the contract, and offer some other discounts. Have kept the TV / Internet portion of the bundle fair over the years ... hopefully can continue with more of that and other perks.

It's a great price I'm just so not used to ads anymore.

I need someone who has the hbo max ad tier to tell me how it is to watch.

Agreed.

I don't know how people do it watching conventional TV with ad breaks every 7 minutes.

So used to streams, downloads, and watching stuff off the DVR for years now. Hell, I'll even give stuff a headstart on the DVR (say 30 minutes) and then start watching to ensure I can skip all ads. Always.

1st 2 eps hasn't been hitting for me and I wanted to give it a try since its A24 and i like Emma Stone

Just finished Blue Eye Samurai, gotta see what's next from my backlog

Fargo season 5 episodes 1 and 2

With some nice nods to the original movie and some themes may feel a little been there
done that, the characters especially Juno Temple As Dorothy "Dot" Lyon are interesting and the violence is as intense as ever. I almost didnt recognize Joe Keery from Stranger Things.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

Cant believe the character has been around for 20 years now. I still remember flipping through the graphic novels. This series was a lot of fun with even more pop culture references. Some may get them right away and it's funny how some go all the way back to the 1970's. Great that so many characters are fleshed out and the back stories and connections to Ramona Flowers are better understood

Checked out the first 2 eps of Fargo as well.

Really good casting of Juno Temple as the lead. Such a better role choice for her compared to the limited material she got to work with for 3 seasons of Ted Lasso.

Also enjoyed the taller of the 2 bad guys.

Agreed.

I think I will stick with it to see how it plays out. Just because I am not sure how dark they will take the story.

I think the show was at its most effective just observing the body language of the individuals. Specifically the scenes with the news reporter, girl in the parking lot, and guy at the ATM.

Loved the ominous overtone when she said - “I’m gonna curse you” ... and seeing how that factors in with future plot(s). The apprehension from Emma Stone, etc.

Mission: Impossible
1966

I discovered this afternoon that Paramount+ just uploaded all 7 seasons of this classic series on its service.

I started watching this afternoon. I was caught off guard that Peter Graves is not in season one and he did not debut until season 2, they dropped the original team leader with no explanation when I looked into it.

I remember watching the repeats in the 70s and don’t recall the season one episodes.

And they originally used a vinyl record and other methods before using the classic cassette player to relay the mission.

PlutoTV has the episodes but they are dubbed in Spanish.
