Jeezy has revealed that he previously suffered from depression and didn’t even realize it as his mental disorder went undiagnosed for nearly a decade.

The trap pioneer pulled up to the Tamron Hall Show on Monday (October 16) to promote his Adversity For Sale memoir, and opened up about his mental health struggles.

“I learned that vulnerability is power,” he said. “I thought something was wrong with me, thinking I come from poverty, this is just how it is. I didn’t understand trauma and all these different things so when I started to get the words for it, I started to understand and grab tools, [and] I started to become better.

“I started my journey and that’s why I’m expressing it and putting it in the book because I didn’t know I was depressed for like eight years of my life straight.”

Jeezy continued to explain that he felt “numb” at times due to losing so many people close to him.

“You wake up and you just want to go back to sleep forever, you know?” he added. “And I was leaning into my vices. And that’s what street life does to you. You know what I’m saying? When you lose 200, 300, 400 people like gone forever, you just get numb.

“And I wasn’t able to get in touch with my emotions and I was wondering why. Thank God for my kids, but there was a time I was just cold. That’s when I was Young Jeezy.”

The Snowman previously opened up about his battle with depression during an interview with PEOPLE in August, recalling the “brief” moment he almost took his own life.

The Atlanta rapper explained that as a teen he attended the Youth Challenge program in Fort Stewart, Georgia following years of dealing drugs and stealing cars.

The nine-month program taught him “structure” and helped him become “focused,” he said, but as it drew to a close, dark thoughts began to creep in.

“I remember standing there and saying to myself, ‘Man, if you go back home and you don’t figure this out. Because I don’t want to end up like my friends,’” he remembered. “My friends became junkies and they were getting killed and all these things.

“So it was all this stuff in my head. It was for a brief moment, I would say at least about 10 minutes, I actually contemplated jumping in the water. I had never had suicidal thoughts, but I [thought], ‘Well, shit, if I just jump in the water, I ain’t gotta deal with this. I ain’t gotta go back home. I gotta do none of these things.’”

However, Jeezy said he didn’t go through with it because something inside him told him: “‘No, bro. You gonna have to man up. You gonna have to go back home. You got to figure this out.’” When he left the youth program, he believed he was “ready for anything.”
Meanwhile, the 46-year-old filed for divorce from his wife Jeannie Mai last month after two and a half years of marriage, which he claims is “irretrievably broken.”
The former couple are reportedly still living under the same roof at their home in Georgia for the sake of their one-year-old daughter, Monaco.

I went to therapy for it some years back. Back breakup, mom died right after my job transferred me out of state, and the guilt of not seeing her before she died. I was living in a new place, with no new friends I liked, and I spoke to a friend who told me to see a therapist. Totally worth it. I can only imagine what he dealt with from being in the streets, the money and fame, family and not knowing who truly was in your corner or there for the ride. Decades of false bravado. Bet money, Will Smith needs therapy. He better go. Fuck Jada, though.

Thanks for sharing your story bro...Im glad you were able to get through all of that. Yeah, therapy does work when you need a person to help you through trauma. If more people would've gotten therapy then they would've still be here today.

Therapy and addiction are both things that, until you admit you have a problem, nothing is gonna work. Not even therapy. I have two famous friends and a very rich regular friend and they all battle with it. Life is hard as a regular person, but compound money and fame into it. Add beauty into it and it’s a powder keg. You’re seeing it with social media. If a guy already has success but can’t get LIKES, pussy or real friends, or a chick comes from money, has a good name, beautiful and will do anything for LIKES, look out. When they don’t get em, it leads to all types of mental shit. I had money, a title with the new job, a crib in Burbank, bitches, a nice whip, no kids, and living that LA life. Hated that shit. Everyone i ran into in LA was one step from fame in their delusion. I’m sitting in fucking traffic dreading my commute, not liking the job, all my friends were east coast and I’m just fucking bitches.

Jeezy has that 10 times over. Likely caught bodies or ordered some shit from being in the game, easily lost a homeboy or two while in the game, then got rich and famous after his boys died or got locked up. You drink, party and fuck to tell yourself it was worth it. It isn’t. Imagine all your boys dead or in jail, then you are rich and famous with nobody to trust. It’s lonely at the MF top for real. If you made a deal with the devil that, the day after your mom, dad, siblings and best friends are all dead, you get $100 million dollars. How much of that wealth are you gonna enjoy? Not much. Everyone you would have helped or saved or wanted to enjoy it with are gone. It’s just jewelry and hoes. Jeezy married that chick and she likely drove his ass crazy. He got out before she made him relapse. Bet money that’s the main reason he left her. She’s Asian that means it’s never an empty house. He now gotta tell his cousins, homies AND in laws NO, or get the fuck out! Go home!

I think this push for mental health has more to do with money than actually caring about people's mental health.

I also believe some this shit people call mental health issues is bullshit. Tough days at work etc
I kinda agree with you. This push for mental health is like a gold mine. You can pray on people's emotional vulnerability and make boat loads of money.

I don't understand y'all on this forum that always think something is fake or is about money when there's people really going through shit and y'all wonder why people commit suicide because nobody has empathy for people anymore believing shit is fake.

???? So just a weird conspiracy theory or is it black stigma about mental health treatment?

lol they don't know but also they don't CARE to know any better. It's a result of conditioning so I give grace.

It's real but this bullshit pushing mental health is all about money!
Everything is a business unfortunately.
